That's a great trailer. .. way more robust than my small single axle. I did on that though add some D rings long ago but never enough of them. Made my back ache (even more) watching you having to contort to get a welding position! Those should do great. Now for the rest sometime ! :)
Hi Chris, fortunately the ole back hasn't been too bad lately. But I admit, it's getting harder to find a comfortable position these days. That makes a great excuse when my welds don't look good! 😆😆
Looks like a nice trailer I have a single axle smaller trailer that looks similar to it. I always thought the same thing that it would be nice to just weld on some hoops for tie downs. I think that when I'm hauling something then put the trailer away after hauling and never get to it. Maybe some day I'll break down and make time.
I've been putting this off for a long time also. I sort of did this as a time filler. It happened to be in front of the shop within reach of the welder and I had the two d-rings. I think I will use the channel iron style on the sides. I should have finished all the hook points while I was at it. Don't use the trailer much, but real convenient when I need it. Later, Mike
Good start Mike... Like you said there are never enough rings (and in the right place) on a trailer. I have a small 1500 lb single axle one (with beafed up springs). I resisted buying a larger one because I will then start bring home heavier equipment. LOL...
I would be interested in knowing how you mounted the spare tire on this trailer your welding the D rings on. I have a similar one I am also putting D rings on & a spare is necessary ( Out of the way if possible) & that looks like a good way out of the way. Some info & maybe pics would be good. Very good D ring video.
The spare was mounted horizontal under the tounge when I bought it. It's a mud water, and debris collector. I'm going to move it but haven't figured out the best spot yet.
I have almost the exact same trailer. Mine is an 80 model not sure what yours is. I have to weld on some D-Rings also. What settings did you use on your welder? I don't have a lot of welding experience.
Mine is listed on the title as "custom" which is a fancy way of saying homemade. 😁 Welder settings: 120 amps, DC negative. 1/8 6013 rods. Happy welding!
A Machinist-tool maker that welds?? How dare you cross-pollinate your skill set like that! NICE job adding tie downs on the trailer........ya kan't ever have tooo many anchor points, even if it looks like that weird cashier chick at Walmart with all the tattoos, and 9 earrings in each ear.......lol.
