Want to give your d100 Dungeon character a place to live?? d100 Dungeon World Builder has you covered. final thoughts @ (33:22) ****NOTE: at 10:21 viewers will notice that the book shows a Star of David as the symbol for Satanic Days. (This also appears on the calendar sheet.) I never noticed this when making the video or reading the book. Once it was pointed out, I immediately wrote to Martin Knight asking for an explanation. He says that he didn't realize the association when searching for common icons and did not mean to cause offense to anyone. He says that he will correct these files "at the earliest opportunity." I hope he does. I am choosing to keep the video posted despite this offensive association and give him the benefit of the doubt.

Great video! I’ve been playing d100 Dungeon since mid-2018, started with v2, soon upgraded to v3. After playing several adventurers with just the core book, in Feb 2020 I added The Adventures Companion and also the Dragon Armor adventure. Then April 2020 I added The Lost Tome of Extraordinary Rules. In February 2021 I ordered The Dragons Return, which arrived early March. Most recently in October I got d100 World Builder as soon as I heard it was a available. For anyone brand new to d100 Dungeon I would recommend starting with just the core book alone. I think it might be a little overwhelming to do World Builder along with it right out of the gate. Not impossible, just a lot at once, and not necessary. That said, once you get the hang of the mechanics, mapping, combat, rolling on the many tables… I believe adding World Builder is definitely a great choice for your second book. It really adds depth, truly giving your adventurer a world to live in and explore. So far my adventurer has explored a half a dozen hex areas and done a couple quests and I am loving it! Then, definitely expand your adventurer’s options by adding the Adventurer’s Companion and Lost Tome of Extraordinary Rules. If you had to pick one it’s a tough call, for the moment I’d say Adventurer’s Companion, since it has the additional race and hero paths as well as the terrific Goblin and Goblet Adventure included. And I completely agree with getting the Tables and Game Sheets PDF. I saved it to iBooks on my iPad and use it all the time. Regardless, once you are hooked I’m sure you will want to get all the supplements. This is more than just a game, it is a truly fantastic game system. Thank you Martin!

No need to buy the PDF sheets if you already use your iPad. Just go through all the rulebooks you’ve purchased and make your own with any free PDF tool available online. If you own physical copies then yeah you need to purchase the sheets.

As always, thank you for further presentations on D100 Dungeon. I own every book except for this one, and I've played it for probably hundreds of hours now. This seems like a very natural "next step" for such a self-contained game, in that it expands the boundaries of its particular container. I'm really excited about this one, it looks amay-zing!

@@GeekGamers01 Okay, third attempt, this time making it a reply to my original comment... ugh I hope 3 of these aren't showing up, I'm so sorry: Points on this video, just for discussion purposes, mostly towards the end: 1.) You mentioned that for you it can seem like a bit of a grind, not getting much gain in a particular play session. But you also recognized that some people may want that. Having played as much as I have, I did learn that certain things can make it go too fast. For example, playing Goblin and the Goblet campaign followed by Dragons Return (the sequel campaign), I find my character to be brutally overpowered by halfway through DR. The grind of advancement becomes a grind of fodder. I have learned to appreciate a very slow advancement, as it makes the occasional great roll on a loot table that much more special. I've gone so far as to house-rule that I may never purchase those Fate+20 potions from Needed. I may only use the ones I find as loot. 2.) You mentioned wanting to see NPC name generation. While I agree in a way, I also recognize Martin's desire to leave that sort of thing out. As it were, there are so many brilliant fantasy name generators on a simple google search that would outshine any D100 table, it's better to just pick your favorite from there and generate NPC (and character) names quickly. 3.) You put it well about the importance of World Builder to the root game. To me at this point, all the other books are "expansions & lore" to the core book. This book, World Builder, is the first "companion" book. It's not bad advice to suggest getting just the core book and World Builder first.

Thanks for the video. I can see that this is clearly inspired by the classic Barbarian Prince (Love that game!) and probably also inherited the same issue - the game packed so much in that it has to be presented in an excel sheet / dictionary style layout! This game would benefit so much from a cleaner / visual story telling layout design and may even elevate it to become the standard of modern Hexcrawl classic.

The designer would need to answer as to whether Barbarian Prince was in his mind or not. To me, they share little in common beyond the fact that they are both modeling outside travel.

I kept ignoring vids by rpg channel folks featuring this game book as i thought it was a book for DMs to create game worlds but i finally stopped and watched Dungeon Dive discussing it and learned this went along with the other D100 game mechanics for soloing and realized that this was indeed something very interesting to me as i am just getting into D100 game and buying books and now i see how much more deep of a game creation one can do in developing an entire region and continent land mass if wanted. My friend i think will be interested in this also as he used to play a lot of GURPS and Warhammer rpg groups but doesnt really do that for a long time, as he has some young boys now, but this game system may be nice for him to do his own adventure rpg in his spare time and it might be a good way to teach his kids about the gaming and see if they are interested in it when they get old enough. I like how the game can be expanded to include multi player also. All the flexibility of this system and it actually has a lot of intriguing aspects are what has me interested in gaming again as i can play by myself just when i have time or if someone else wants to join in they can. I think i may splurge on the fabricated Mapping Game accessories as i just dont have time to make all that and i dont have a decent printer anyway. I may try and have a printing shop create some of the books for me from pdf but i dont know if they can be trusted in printing files for odd things such as cards and map tiles and whatever. I do enjoy crafting game parts and improving things, (im trying to make some old games from files from BGG) but my work and dealing with house construction and property care just takes so much of my time it really sucks. I got back into games in the last couple years, and have a nice little collection of neat games, but i never get time to play them or fabricate any crafted gaming stuff. I have my own game ideas but never get time to work on developing them.

15:53 My kind of event... 35:04 Giant Eagle... D100 Adventures in Middle Earth 39:04 My standard generative approach is to chose 2 thematically similar novels, pick 1 character from each, combine 1st book character name with 2nd book character surname. Thank you for bringing my attention to D100. You have done quite a few videos on Martin Knights D100 solo system. I got the free version still available on bgg to see for myself what it's about and if it is any good. I prefer printed books over pdf but before I go to the expense of getting all 6 books, which is getting close to 100 quid. Can I ask you with your experience, what makes it different to other solo systems?
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 2 года назад
Hard to answer this in a comment… my videos discuss why I like it… I think it offers a real chance to work with a single character and develop them and make hard choices about spending or saving money etc. The world builder really takes it to the next level by giving them a place to live and do things.
@Tarryk
@Tarryk 2 года назад
Personally, I feel that it is the most naturally-evolved self-contained one-player solo experience. Many people relate it to 4AD, but I think it is quite separated. What really sets D100 apart is that it is ONLY six books so far, and it contains enough content for many hundreds of hours of gameplay. Campaigns, quests, dozens of optional rules sets, all while maintaining the core rules and allowing all additions to be optional and easy to understand. You could literally buy the core book and any one of the expansions and it would work just fine; none of them depend on each other, they only compliment each other and just need the core book. World Builder seems to be the first true companion in that it gives you a way to procedurally generate the whole world in the same fashion that you were procedurally generating the dungeons up until now. Having not even played World Builder yet, I can see the core book + World Builder being a viable first-purchase package.

I've been looking for something like this for a long time. This is brilliant - I'm sure this will be my goto solo system. I'm going to order the D100 core rules the tome of more rules, the world book and the book of tables. Then with all of my other random charts and GURPS and whatever else I want. @21:20 I would interpret the event check as NOT applicable because it says "...and..." and since fatigue didn't apply. what follows and doesn't either. the logical use of and is that both sides have to be true, now if it said or then yes. Or am I missing something here? @12:15 you talk about the quest of finding something and giving it to a messenger. That's all fine and good but it leaves me hanging a bit. How did this come about? How was she notified about this? Who told her that she needs to find these items and take it to a messenger? This leaves a gap in the narrative and I guess it's up to us the player then to write this out if desired.
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 2 года назад
Well there's only so much he can supply in one book (and there's a lot) so yes you'll need to fill in a bit more on the story there for those types of quests. He does have full-on adventure books complete with stories.

Great question. The Adventurers Companion has the death kill rule and witchery(with looted parts) as well as new side quests and the adventurer fast track BUT the lost tome of extraordinary rules has taming beasts, artisan rules, tons more spells (which I use in a house rule way), and new find table AND a quick adventurer rule for creating someone with just one die roll. By a hair I’d go with Lost Time (book 4) with Adventurers Companion (2) a close second

Honestly, both symbols are poorly chosen. Using the Cross for "Religious Days" and the Star of David for "Satanic Days" will be offensive to some, and there are so many symbols Martin could have used. Even the yellow "happy face" and "sad face" would have worked, and not upset anyone. It is not really a politically-correct issue, just common sense. Other than that, this is a well-constructed world for playing RPG, and I will be buying volume 6. Thanks for posting this video!
