This came out at the height of Eminem’s career in around 2004, he made albums with D12 as well as making his solo projects

D12 started around 95/96 and this song is 2004. They consisted of the hottest and illest local rappers of Detroit around that time. No they are not a band but a super rap group. This song was a parody of how pop culture viewed them and how Eminem was the most known artist and every interviewed was focused on him. They def blew up around 2001 with their debut studio album Devil's Night.

Also, Proof was shot and killed at a club about a year or two after this. After that, Em started walking around with security.

It's a spoof on bands especially boy bands. It was ingenious at the time. At the same time it was EM putting D-12 on the map so they could get recognition they deserved.

D12 was actually around for a while before this even, this was on their second album (the first released betweens em's 2nd and 3rd album i believe) and is a play on how the industry and fans reacted. they would always say eminem ft D12 when eminem is apart of the group itself, so even the verses are over exaggerations to how they are treated as the "band members" and not the lead. they knew each other before em blew up btw so yes i believe they are all still homies but they said the group itself prolly wont do another record

They told eachother whoever gets signed 1st brings everybody else. 99 em gets signed to aftermath record by Dr. dre. Drops his debut mainstream album Slim shady LP. 2000 he drops the marshall mathers lp and 2001 D12 drop they 1st album Devils night, 2002 The eminem show drops, 2004 D12 world drops then late 2004 Encore by em drops. Etc...... and yes proof was part of d12

Eminem being "Slim Shady", Proof being "Dirty Harry" etc. All met at the HipHop Shop in Detroit that was ran after hours at St.Andrews. as Proof hosting And they all came from each sides of Detroit. 1999 Eminem' Rose to Fame and came back & grabbed the group and 2001 "Devil's Night" Dropped June 19th & a week later debuts @ #1. It's Single "Purple Hills" an Radio version Edit from the Album Cut "Purple Pills" which debuted @ #2. Also being the first album to debut off of ShadyRecords. Billboard called it "Eminem's side project". The rest is history

This is one of the light hearted D12 songs, most of their other songs are dark, gritty or just straight up nasty lol but they are amazing rappers. I'd recommend Fight Music, Instigator, It Ain't Nothing But Music, and Revelation for a good sample of D12

All the guys from D-12 are old friends from Detroit who all pretty much met each other through rap and this includes Em. I believe Em was not an original member but just an affiliate at first but one of the original members Bugz died. At this point Em already blew up as a solo act and signed D-12 to Shady records, so he decided to join them and replace Bugz. So Em was doing his solo thing and D-12 at the same time.

D12 started off as "project" where they wanted all of Detroit's best rappers together. Started off with 14 members but some died before they blew up leaving only 5. D12 are all friends that grew up in detroit, there were once considert the best rappers from detroit. As Eminem got famous, he wanted to push them. D12 as a group worked, but the solo careers of their members failed, accept the one of Eminem. Proof was also in D12 and grew up with Eminem and they were considered to be best friends. Proof was also Marshalls best man at his wedding. D12 ended as Proof died, because he got shot. After hearing this, Eminem fell in a deep depression, witch let to him beeing a drug and alcohol addict. In his to album's „Relapse" and „Recovery" he talks about getting clean and back to mental health. The former members of D12, are still good friends with each other.
