The Self Timer: It takes the same amount of time for every other shot. Is there any way to set the time only for 1st picture and then take multiple pictures quickly because if you'd have to wait for 5 seconds for every 2nd group picture to be taken then it won't be much different then the 1st one???? Thanks

Then, you introduced a bunch of other tips and tricks useful to this camera. Excellent video for anyone who needs to get started in taking good pictures on this camera. I will be watching this video again as you suggested. Thanks for your work.

I just bought my camera a couple of weeks ago and your tutorial has been extremely helpful. Far too many sources assume the user already knows more than we actually do know, which can be quite frustrating. So I particularly appreciate the clear and concise manner in which you explain the various functions of the camera. And at no time do I feel like I'm being talked down to. I greatly respect that about you. One thing that I think should be mentioned is how to adjust the camera so that the video screen does not keep going into sleep mode. For those who do not know, go to: MENU>CUSTOM SETTING MENU>C TIMERS/AE LOCK>C2 AUTO OFF TIMERS. Thanks again, Mr Northrup. I look forward to reading your books! D

They do a significant effort in doing what they do and why not to have financial benefit of that? Wishing all the best for Chelsea and Tony and please continue what you are doing so well.

Thank you so, so much! Just got my D5300 yesterday - a step up from my trusty D3300 which I have had for a few years now. Needed a second camera, so treated myself to this little beauty (with a few extra features). I have watched many tutorials - some I have found useful, others not so useful. Really pleased that I watched this one the whole way through. I loved the way that Tony broke down the whole video into small manageable sections, explaining everything simply while demonstrating on the camera. It felt great to be able to follow his instructions without feeling lost or confused. Thanks again...Pat x

I got this camera and I love it. I upgraded to it from my D3200. I've only being shooting for under a year but I have pretty much mastered both the D3200 and D5300. I watched this video to see what features I might have missed - the only ones were the grid lines in the view finder and the ISO in view finder. It's a fantastic camera. The wifi features are fantastic and make it easy to share my pictures right there and then. I love the mobile utility app and use it a lot for self portraits. Brilliant camera for beginners.

I have been watching your video's and tutorials for many years and even watch the ones about Camera's i don't even own. They are great for going back to and reminding yourself about certain things. It was your guide to the Pentax K-S2 that got me hooked on watching you and it made me Change Camera's to the Pentax K-S2 which i bought brand new back in 2014 and still have. I love my Pentax, i recently bought the D5300 as something new to play with and remembered this guide and have watched it twice in the past week and the Content is still as valid now as it was then. I also have your Stunning Digital Photography which your references to are a great help. I haven't got the Lightroom one as i still use jpeg but am going to step it up a level and shoot RAW. Thanks for all your help and guidance over the years it's much appreciated.

Hi Tony . I just received my new D5300 today and I was so excited to get it , but after I received it , I started to be panicked and upset as I realized I had no idea how to use it , and no one to ask. I started research on you tube as the guide manual seemed hard to understood by me and then I finally saw your video. I believe this was the most useful video for the beginners I could find . Thank you for your work . Also I need to say I am a bit relived as I see other people having the same problems as I do , and this makes me not feel so dumb anymore . :) Thanks again , you provided us great help

Good point about setting the time! I was in the Philippines getting married in December. I had already left my D5300 with my wife last summer, but I forgot to reset on my camcorder when I was there. Fun when the software files them by date and you are 13 hours off...

I just stumbled across your excellent tutorial on the D5300. Thank you so much! I'm a LONG time pro news/magazine shooter and just picked up a used D5300 and 18-140 lens for a light weight vacation rig. My pro Nikons are better weather sealed and faster to use, but I appreciate how handy the D5300 is. I especially like the flip & rotation ability of the display screen. There are some weird button combinations on this camera, but like you said, set things up and leave them alone. You have a very smooth and professional delivery as a teacher. Thanks again for the thorough tutorial. Michael

Tony, I just want to compliment you on your work. It's a great service for the amateur photographer. I bought your books and watch your tutorial series online a lot. I finally upgraded to the D5300. Without the background of your tutorials I probably would have spent way too much on bodies and lenses. This sensor is probably all I'll ever need. I get great, clear, colorful, and sharp images. All your stuff is great for learning the technical as well as artistic aspects of photography. I'm a big fan. Thanks, Richard

Tony Northrup Got the book, technically yesterday - E X C E L L E N T! I'll be watching your RU-vid again, also refer to it, as I work through the book. After watching your RU-vid, I took shots on my local property hike (our 5.1 acres & adjoining properties I hike with permission) as well as a hike to Dungeness Spit (Strait of Juan De Fuca). I'll be registering my book in the afternoon. While previewing my shots after I perused your book, I found myself more critical and wondering what you & Chelsea would think of some of them.

I'm only halfway through your tutorial and I've already learned more than in the past week since I bought the D5300. This is a great resource and I'm looking forward to learning more. Thanks!

Thanks Tony and Chelsea, I think this video is great for me as a beginner in photography. I thought I was only going to be using the camera on Auto mode until you explained how much this magnificent piece of equipment can do.Once again, thank you.

Just getting into a DSLR camera for the first time. Just ordered a D5300 and was looking at RU-vid for reviews and found this video. I have used film SLR cameras in the past but a lot of the techniques have slipped my mind so I just ordered your paperback book you recommended in this video.

Tony Thanks a lot for that wonderful video. You covered almost entire camera manual in just one video. I am buying this camera specifically for video and ofcourse once in a while for photos for semi-professional use. Your video helped me a lot. Great Job !!

Great video. I just bought the D5300 & 18-55mm lens. Got a great price on Amazon, about $1000 with a 16GB SD card. Not bad. This video taught me just about everything I need to get going in one sitting. I live in NYC and there's just so much to shoot I had to get a decent camera. I wish all videos were as well done as this. Not overly explained & no talking just to hear yourself. Thanks a lot for the help. I'll definitely be getting the book as well.

Hi Tony, Bought your book Stunning Digital Photography and it's amazing. I can't believe it also included this - an instructional video on my first DSLR camera! Thanks for all the work you put in. I'd recommend the book to anyone as it's a first-class course on photography. It's taking me as a relative beginner on an incredible photography journey that I don't believe I'd get at any university. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video. I learn much better by someone showing me how to do something instead of reading. I have this camera and I use a 50mm for food photography. Hopefully my pictures will get better now. You've even convinced me to take a look at your book. Thank you!

This video was a great help! I just purchased the Nikon 5300 (up from a Canon Rebel T5), I was aware of everything it did from the description when I was researching what to buy, but had no idea how to use them all. Thank you for making this video! Next purchase, your book.

Great presentation! I just got a d5300 this week, and hadn't located the vibration reduction control yet. Since I had significant hand tremors from a neurological condition (I ALWAYS carry a tripod!), this will be an important feature for me.

Tony, you're the greatest. I decided to upgrade from the Nikon 3300 to the 5300 based upon your (implied) comparison. I guess that's how much I trust the observations you give and the trust I put in them. Thanks very much. Tomorrow I'm going out to shoot the interior of a cathedral. A great exercise in manual mode!
