***** Your video was good and didn't need music. I like the old machines and have owned many over the years, that's about all I can afford. Even if I could buy a new one I probably wouldn't.. Good luck to you..
those old cats are the best dozers around i got my grandfathers old D8 running last summer after not running for 16 years all i had to was change the battery and bleed the fuel lines and within 15 seconds of cranking it fired right up with no issues with the old fuel in it. awesome machines loved the video.
Caterpillars are amazing the way they just sit there with no thought given to oiling cylinders or anything and then they just start up and are eager to go to work - like an old cattle dog.
A 6-C is about my favorite dozer. Oil clutch straight drive is tough as they get. It's in good shape. Will still do a lot of work. Always liked to hear them run.
I ran an 8-H years ago on a dam job. No cab and a pony motor. It was a joy to fire it up every morning then fill up the oil and check the fuel. Straight pipe and it would snort. Miss those days. My hearing is what it is and has come where it is honestly!
This is built to ourlast it's owners! Very little rust, although it has stood outdoors the last 10 years! Wish they still made thing's to last long like they used to😕
Great video love the old dozer would like to own one with the nasty winters we have in Nova Scotia in my part of the country. Would be great for moving snow and to have some fun making woods roads.
No DPF, green diesel, or bull crap high efficiency eco garbage and after ten years she fires. New diesel engines would never survive that, but they are more efficient, so they say. Good video
The music really wasn't that bad. I've heard a lot worse. That's awesome that it fired up right after the second try. But then that's cat for you. I've seen some videos where it's been -30° outside and the cat would at least attempt to fire up on its first go around and then it would start warming up on it second round.
+Andreas von T. Fair enough, dont let my straight-in-your-face comment detract form what you think is right. It's just that it was like putting colored sprinkles onto an open pit wild roast, if that analogy means anything ;-)
Sometimes you have to put something that may annoy some people in your videos to get people to look at them. The like to dislike ratio on this video is over 4 to 1 and will soon have 1/4 million views. Your videos are pretty good but not getting too many eyes on them. Do something funny or silly and don't worry about the people that say they don't like it. Most people probably will like it.
+sequoyah59 The Dozer has two 12 volt batteries connected in series. One was weak so I just connected my 12 volt Dodge to the positive and negative of ONE of the batteries.
it's a damn shame we will never have quality equipment (or operators) like that now don't get me wrong equipment now are vastly improved in terms of comfort and with climate control, radios and what not but they'll only last a fraction of the time those older equipment will.. Not to mention that with the technology involved most people cannot repair or service it themselves
I call BS! For something that's been sitting for 10 years the hydraulic cylinders would be rusty as well as the tracks, not to mention all the squealing those tracks would be doing after sitting unprotected for 10 years. You must take everyone for fools, common sense tells the real story here!
Yes chrome does rust, they aren't made from chrome anyway and yes any tracks sitting for 10 years are going to make a lot of noise. I've been turning wrenches for 30 years, I know better...
OK, that makes plenty of sense. I went out to mine that has supposedly been started monthly by our caretaker and it was dead as a hammer. It is 24V and I couldn't figure out how to jump start it from a 12V. figured I'd blow something up. Those are huge batteries to buy. I did not realize the 6C ever came with a pony motor. Is that where she has sat for all the 10 years? I've been able to keep all my stuff in the barn and still worry about it and vermin chewing on cables and such. Barn cats are the best deterrent along with Freddie the black snake.
+sequoyah59 I have often boosted with a 12 volt system but you have to hook up to each battery individually. I found out the hard way that they can blow up in your face if there is a spark when you hook up when hydrogen is present from charging. Be very careful. Yes it was there for the full 10 years or maybe even a bit more. This machine has always been outside for the whole 40 or so years I have had it. I think the pony motor option was available till the mid sixties.
+Andreas von T. We are going to have a conversation like it or not. Yes, explosion is my worry. I was oiler on a NorthWest 95 dragline and saw a 24V blow up and a friend in the military told me about a 24V explosion not boosted correctly so I have always been wary to the point of DON'T DO IT. I ran one of the first D5s when they came out. Nimble little tractor but without the grunt of the 6. Pushing off and leveling rock dykes. Beat the snot out of me and the tractor. We had an old 6 -8U when I was growing up. What a man eater. I started running it when I was about 11. I also inherited a D2 that sits in the barn just waiting for someone to pay attention to her. These machines are more loyal and reliable than most people I know. I have a good acquaintance I work with from Alberta in our now dying oilfield. You and I have seen a lot of deaths in the oilfield though in my last 40 years. I think I envy your apparent serenity in retirement. I'm trying to make that transition.
Delete the stupid music and the cursing will go away. NEWSFLASH, when people see Cat cold start in the title they want to hear an awesome engine come to life.
I hope people find your videos of the machine working. I had no idea the smaller dozers could sound so good! You are good operator but Im still mad about cold start video. Believe it or not my Honda Accord on a cold start just doesnt do it for me, thats why I look for videos here.
Why in hell, when someone makes a video of equipment, do they feel the foolish compulsion to insert some blaring stupid music drowning out the fine nuances of sound of the machine? Nobody wants to hear porno music with their classic Cat diesel!
