Speaker Bio: Dr. Cristian de Santos has a Master's in Geotechnical Engineering and a Doctorate in Soil Mechanics (Polytechnic University of Catalonia, 2015) and is the CEO and Co-Founder of SAALG Geomechanics. He was a junior researcher and consultant (2007- 2010) and a senior researcher and consultant (2010-2016) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, before deciding to create SAALG Geomechanics, an engineering company specialized in advanced numerical solutions, numerical model calibrations, and characterization of soil and rock parameters.
He also spent part of his PhD as a visiting researcher at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the USA. He is an expert in finite element software (mainly Plaxis 2D&3D) and geotechnical back analysis. During his career, he has participated in multiple projects around the world, such as subway lines, high-speed trains, deep shafts, hydraulic tunnels, land reclamation projects, and large buildings with subway levels, among others.
