One of my Dachshunds is not a purebred and is 1/8 Jack Russell. Her personality and athleticism are definitely impacted by this, though she looks like a purebred. She perfectly embodies both.
I’m from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 I’ve got an 11 week old (dad mini dox, mum half mini dox half Jack Russell) so that makes ours 3/4 sausage 1/4 pocket rocket aka Jack Russell ❤ he’s full of beans! Loves his food and exercise! 😊
My Sterling recently had his back broken not IVDD. We had a vet that automatically assume that was the problem and never did an x-ray. She also assumed he had a brain infection that caused his seizure that I witnessed. The actual cause was a spinal fluid leak. The heartache from this felt like it was going to kill me honestly. I'm so glad I didn't give in to her suggestion. He wears a diaper now and I take care of all his bodily functions now, but we manage. I am still worried about his mental condition. He can't get out the same way as he did before and when the pack (4 dachshunds and a rat terrier) go outside he is fighting to go with them. I actually take them together all the time until the other day. We ended up in the middle of a dog fight, I was bit a lot. Not much in the way of blood so they must have held back. Two of the others attacked him and it was vicious. They do get angry with each other from time to time, but this made me afraid that they would kill him. I know they are jealous of the time I spend with him. I have one that even stands around waiting for me to put clothes on him... Just like what I do with the one that's paralyzed. What do I do? Is this a jealousy reaction? The rat terrier moved in nearly a year ago and he growls at everything and everyone. Most times he's just saying he doesn't want to do something but it needs to stop. He's 10 years old and his owner passed away. Unfortunately he was with someone that hates dogs for about a year previous to us getting him. His fear barking and growling is insane. I can't even get a muzzle on him to trim toenails. I've never even owned a muzzle for a dog before and never had a problem. A vet recommended we put him down, but I can't do it. He is damaged but there has to be a solution. I'm convinced that the fight was started by his growling. Once he starts the others go with it. Also he's 10 and not neutered. Do you have any advice? I honestly don't think neutering him will change anything or I'd have done it already. Right now I'm wavering on putting him down. That might not even be the cause though. Right now though my entire right hand and forearm is black and blue. I can't have him in danger of this happening again. I love my dogs and I know exactly how dumb it is to put your hand into the fight. I know... I really do but I can't let him get killed. I would have still done it if it was a big dog attacking him. Please advise me here. I've been a dog owner all my life and until now I've never had any issues with behavioral problems. I became disabled a few years ago so I don't get them walking as much as I used to. Also the vet that recommended putting the other dog down was the same one that didn't even do the x-ray. I have no faith in her.
The rarer is sinus cavity cancer. My dachshund died of it. He was awesome. We (my wife and I) still have a hole where he left. I have a rat terrier mini pin mix and a lab bullmastiff mix, but still would want a dachshund.my dachshund was a lovely pain in the ass.
