The person who interviewed Billie for Rolling Stone also said "it plays like a sister song to What was I made for?", but it was actually written before the Barbie song
The best thing about Turning the Tables is they’ll be talking about their emotional response to a song and three minutes later Conner’s talking about getting scared about going on buses that are traveling through semen
Ok I’m only 3 minutes in and I already love your dad. How he got choked up by the first verse of skinny made me get choked up as well. And the fact that he wanted to raise you with music instruments and how his response to “what do you know about her” wasn’t about accolades but tidbits of her personality and preferences and the way she was brought up. I wanna hug him
@@baileykaraunayeah but it’s about her relationship with Jesse Rutherford. The title is related to Jesse’s last girlfriend’s cellphone cases’ company (which is called ‘Wildflower cases’). They all knew each other before Jesse and Billie started dating, she knew Jesse’s girlfriend back then and they were friends, that’s why she asked “did i cross the line?” in the song. Trust me, I’ve been a massive fan of The NBHD so the story that the song tells matches perfectly with all the Jesse-Devon-Billie trio. I’m glad Billie and Devon are okay and they’re still friends but yeah, it was kinda messed up a bit. But she’s young. I’m a big fan of Jesse and his band but him being a 30 something years old dating a young girl was fucked up, I’ll always blame him instead of Billie. I didn’t even liked Billie before and didn’t listen to her music and now with this album I’m OBSESSED with her hahah. She’s so cool!
Never actually listened to Billie and I put this album on w my friend the other day as a joke and did not expect to like it as much as I did, stellar record. My fav is fs Birds of a feather
FUN FACT!! blue is actually two of her songs combined. "True Blue" or known as "BLUE" now is actually an old popular unreleased song of Billie, The other is “Born Blue”, which was supposed to be released as track six on her 2021 album Happier Than Ever, but they “just couldn’t figure it out.” The first half of the song, which is the reworked “True Blue,” takes the melodies and chorus, while adding a verse that reminisces each track from the album, just like what she did for her debut album "WWAFAWDWG" on the last track "GOODBYE"
not a Billie fan, just a casual listener here and there, but this is the first album by her that i keep going back to, i feel like she has found her Thing with this one. it feels like her waaay more than her first two albums, i feel like i know who Billie is now
In terms of the drums you're bang on. In interviews Billie mentioned that they brought their drummer from her tour in to play live drums for the bulk of the tracks which is why it feels so different and tickled your ear drums. Also they had previously revealed that the theme of the record was to "Make an album as though noone was ever going to hear it". Aren't we incredibly lucky that they did allow us to hear it. Fantastic album!
I think Billie finally transcended pop music. I consider her to be an experimental/electronic artist at this point. When I heard this album, my first thought was also that it sounded mature. Chihiro is probably my favorite. The Diner sounds like it was co-produced by the Gorillaz.
Can I ask why? I love billies music but that song and the greatest are the only ones that didn't click for me (the greatest reminds me too much of Happier than ever). Ive seen a ton of people praising wildflower and considering it a top 3 on the album. Im wondering if its because I'm not understanding the lyrics and the lore behind them, or is it other things. Genuine question, would love to know
Musical geniuses! Billie and Finneas are some of the most phenomenal artists of our generation or lifetime tbh. So insanely talented and Billie is just an ethereal person…just amazing. In love with her and all of this album, her music and the creativity and raw relatability I have felt with her every step of her music so far!
@@CrownedYeti the first Billie song I’ve ever heard was bad guy, and my goodness that song was hot garbage and I still think it is, so it made me very hesitant to check her out. But I eventually did and she’s got some good stuff in her discography, this album being one of the strongest entries.
Chihiro and Skinny are definitely my favourites from this album. Skinny isn't the most innovative from Billie but it feels like she's honed the mellow style that's been prevalent through her discography.
there’s something about Birds of a Feather that is so incredibly nostalgic to me. it transports me back to a very specific time in life and I can’t stop listening to it 😭
It's cool how you guys mentioned at the beginning how personal this album seems because she mentioned that this album was made with the mindset of making an album that no one would hear :) it feels like a privilege being able to experience this masterpiece
Actually, the album was named after a plugin called Hit Me Soft and Hard which is only used at the outro of BITTERSUITE, and that was intentional considering the fact that 2016-2017 fans know exactly where that outro melody came from (True Blue, a leaked unreleased track which is now BLUE the final track). So basically it’s a fan service
This album is so cinematic. There is so much to uncover lyric and prouctionwise it just gets better everytime I re-listen. This is already my favorite record of hers
I just lost my Dad last week and watching this reminded me so much of how I loved showing my dad new music. Loved the video guys as always. Love the riffing between you guys! Keep it up.
First part is based on "True Blue", an unreleased gem of her DSAM era that fans wanted to be released since 2016. The 2n part is based on "Born Blue", also unreleased.
Always love re-experiencing these Albums with you for the first time again. Especially after a few days of letting the Album sink in. Love you guys and much love from Germany
Quick fact about the song THE DINER: It is based on Billie’s personal experience with a stalker and it is written from his perspective:) I’m guessing that’s why its got an eerie/weird vibe to it a Genius no doubt.
Everyone should check out her isolated vocals version of this album to really appreciate how many layers she puts in. Several parts I first thought were instrumentals or digital was actually her voice.
I love how 'bittersuite' teases the main melody of 'blue' at the very end with this great synth piano. When I first heard it, i was sad that they didnt repeat it or include some drums to it. Then 'blue' starts and its billie singing the exact melody with amazing drums. Beautiful!!!
I never really listened to Billie Eilish a whole lot but i really love this record. Please tell me you guys are getting to "Because The Internet" soon, one of my favourite albums ever. Keep up the great vids!
Pleaseeeeeee can you show your dad Optimist by FINNEAS. Now’s a good a time as any! He will absolutely love the production and being his age I feel he will really connect with the lyrics!
28:40 the fact that blue was already a hit so long ago early in the billie fandom for it being an unreleased song called true blue. so glad she finally gave us it
The first half of Blue was oiginally called True Blue and was an unreleased song from 2022. It became quite popular and people have been asking for a full version ever since. They have now reworked it and turned it into Blue
What yall were talking about around 15:11 I actually saw Billie & FINNEAS do a small acoustic set for the Happier Than Ever 1 year anniversary/Guitar Songs launch here in LA it was really really good!
After giving the whole album a double listen-through I just had to come check to see if y'all covered this record yet. Such a good album. Complete change of pace - masterful sound and vocals. Billie and Finneas really fucking killed it.
is it really worth relistening? i listened once and was incredibly put off, i found the lyrics all felt disingenuous bc of the simple rhyme schemes and generic takes on themes and the vocals felt flat to me, along with none of the production feeling impressive
i am not really feeling it on my first listen either but this convinced me go back to it in a week or so. that was the case in what have now become some of my favourite songs so its worth another shot
@@noamchemlahonestly her best album. And I was obsessed with her debut album and HTE. Beautiful vocals and instrumental. Extremely well put together. There were maybe two songs I thought were just okay and then I listened again and again and fell more in love each time . Now every song is saved and on replay ❤
man i love you guys, your commentaries always come with such admiration for the ins and outs of songs but especially with the fact that this record is so production focused you really delivered! And I was genuinely cracking up, you guys are so quick witted and match each others energies, such a fun vibe to watch this.
I can’t get over this album. I’ve listened to it a million times front to back. Finneas was on another level on the production for this album, it’s just absolutely incredible.
THE DINER is actually written from the POV of a real life stalker that billie had. he was arrested for breaking into her house and left her actual letters, as referenced in the song. similar to her song bellyache which is from the pov of a serial killer (a character/alter ego she created for that song). i find it so fascinating that this song is how she chose to comment on and process such a scary situation.
Love this!! Your reactions are always so beautiful and genuine. Fun fact, Billie actually did a lot more of the recording and production on her own with this record as well, she’s mentioned it in a few interviews! I adore this album so much.
I love the variety of songs from this album that resonate with people. Usually there’s 1-3 that are the most popular but it feels like every song on this album has its own following. Truly one of her best ones yet. She’s found her sound.
People will naturally 'dislike' music of popular Western artists, me included, but I have to hand it to her brother / main producer FINNEAS here - this album turned me into a BIllie Eilish fan lmao. I've always like them both somewhat since they both have a close Irish background but this album is peak.
The production on this blew me away! The subtle drumming, the beautiful and melancholic acoustic guitar, the emotional orchestration and of course Billie's amazing vocals, i was just speechless. This album made me feel goosebumps during the whole first listen and i think it is definetly her best project so far. Your reaction was very nice and heartwarming as always :) By the way, i think you guys skipped a little detail on the last 2 seconds of the last track where Billie says "but when can i hear the next one?" I was curious to see how you'd react to that
Hearing you guys like it so much makes me happy. Rec'd it to a friend who usually likes my recs and they shut it down just because they don't like Billie (for extramusical reasons)
I don't know why it feels this way, but it's like a mixtape of a Billie's greatest hits (i know its not but has a potential). The reason i say this its like, like songs that never sound alike in different styles, belonging to someone who has gone through different phases... i mean it's like they gathered 10 different people from 10 different parts of the world and made an album.
