Your dad is 100% correct in saying you’d have to be in a confident space in your career. Wayne was on top of the world when he released this song. He was in the middle of one of the greatest runs in hip hop history
frfr, i imagine, in my lifetime, that’s the closest I’ve seen any musician enter a “Michael Jackson mode”. And i don’t ever make that comparison or make it lightly.
This refers to the phrase "C3 threepeat." The Carter III being his third consecutive studio album reaching platinum status. Which equates to a triple championship in sports.
Please dont forget one of Wayne's most Iconic lines. "Make sure you wear a latex, cause you dont want that late text , that 'i think I'm late text' ". Recently a video of Wayne went viral cause even he couldn't believe he said that.
This is all lyricism and wordplay. Song structure is put to the side to show you he has metaphors and similes and entendres and every piece of creative language and verbal acrobatics that can compete with any artist out! Milli is a statement record!! The Workd knew Wayne was a serious problem at this point.
Yeah well said! This is more of a showcase for the people who are really into the words and flows etc. at this time we heard him on so many hits it was great to hear him let loose on this one no rules 🔥
I can't get enough of watching someone really experiencing music I know and strong for the first time. I love how he doesn't get caught up on the language and hears it as music and expression from a different culture. Like, that he doesn't "get it" doesn't mean that there's something wrong with "it." That's dope.
It’s important to mention how BIG this song was when it came out. All over the radio, MTV, everything. I never thought of it as an odd song, but I can see that. Crazy cause it was so accessible at the time
Do "I Feel Like Dying" for the next Lil Wayne song. That song was waaaay ahead of it's time. It's one of Wayne's more laid back songs and I feel like your dad would appreciate it.
The “owe you” is also a nod to Wheel of Fortune I believe, where you have to pay money in order to call a vowel out. And C3, 3-peat is just a reference to the Carter 3 being another critically-acclaimed addition to the Carter trilogy at the time.
Thank you!! I was looking forward to someone explaining this to him! Being a huge fan of him at the time -I remember how important this album was to us as fans 💪🏽 💯!
As a big wayne fan, I feel like I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to introducing weezy to someone who dosent know his music! He got so much stuff released you cannot stop there. Great video 👍🏽
C3 = Carter 3 Three peat is also referring to the Carter 3. It’s his 3rd album in the series. Just like when u win 3 championships in a row. They call it a 3 peat
Wayne had a run between 2004-2014 where he was arguably the top rapper in the game. When he changed up his style on "Da Carter" and started using a NYC like Flow with those down south New Orleans tracks, it was over for all other rappers for a minute. Eventually, Wayne became so influential, NYC rappers starting mimicking Southern artists like him in their appearance and in even their sound.
You should REALLY show him "Georgia Bush" or "Nightmares Of The Bottom" by Lil Wayne. 👀I feel like he might enjoy "She Will" and "How To Love" from Carter IV, too.
Two things that would be helpful to know when understanding this track: 1) it is a freestyle (i.e., completely spontaneous); 2) it is an example of playing the dozens/signifying/high-capping, a Black American performative tradition wherein a person magnifies their own persona through clever storytelling or wordplay while degrading another person's persona for the purpose of entertaining an audience.
Just found the channel. Don't have a father currently Alive. He absolutely hated most genres of music that was not classic rock. I love your pops reaction to an amazing artist and incredible song. Your dad is dope!
Hey Kai and Dad! when wayne says c3 3peat at the end C3 = (CARTER 3) its just a acronym for the Carter 3. 3peat means this was the THIRD Carter album in the trilogy. It sold 1 million in a week . In sports a 3peat is when a team wins 3 championships back to back to back meaning they on top. Wayne was saying his first two albums was classic now the third one (C3 aka Carter 3) will be another classic. Which means he wins again lol. C3. 3peat it's just him saying the name of the album, and saying he wins the Rap game yet again with another classic🔥 Ps( Kai dad should react to MR CARTER. another classic on the album. He'd love it . It featured Jay z!)
Please get some Nicki Minaj in here. Like her "Monster" verse or "Roman's Revenge" ft. Eminem, "Here I Am", "Your Love", "Freedom", "Four Door Aventador", "Win Again", "All Things Go". I think your dad would enjoy these songs from her catalog.
FINALLY MORE LIL WAYNE!! I love your music taste because you’ve listen to more classic hip hop than I’ve had but it’s because I started listing to rap when WAYNE was in his bag n when this came out I MEMORIZED IT FRONT TO BACK!!
The “choppa” line is a quintandre, choppa is a gun, choppa is the cops in a helicopter, he’s physically chopping the word verbally as well as finishing “a line” (verbal and written making the allusion to chopping lines of drugs). Wayne does this constantly wether it’s lines that are referencing current affairs of the times within his metaphors and similes, or cutting deep word play with diss mentality. Lyrical genius
Wayne's been active since the 90s. He has albums before the Carter series. They're pretty good. One of my favorite pre-Carter Wayne tracks being "Tha Blues." Certainly of the time, but you can see the talent in the child. Baby (Birdman) didn't let Wayne use profanity until he turned 18, so his teenage music is expressive but not profane. Really a fascinating career.
A fellow 49 year old soccer mom here! My favorites are the exact same! One of my favorite memories was about 5 years ago, I was in the kitchen baking with my headphones on. I was listening to and I guess singing a bit too loud to "Lollipop". I felt a tap on my shoulder and my then 12 year old son said accusingly "Mom, how do YOU know Lil'Wayne?!" I smiled and said "Question is, how do YOU know him?! You might not believe this, but once upon a time, your Mama had it goin' on!" He walked away shaking his head and later, I heard him saying to my youngest son "You won't believe what I heard Mom singing to today! She was listening to Lil'Wayne, Drake, Juice Wrld and Tupac!" 😆
Who else thinks they'd love "Still Fly" by Big Tymers? His dad loves the big production/orchestral sounding beats. It's a must listen for new Wayne fans.
What will it take for you guys to do more Wayne reactions, and being that I see your dad it's into the more substance songs of Wayne, here are 5 that I think he will really enjoy. 1. Tie my hands 2. Shoot me down 3. Let it all work out 4. Open letter 5. Can't be broken
I think it’s hard for your dad because he’s always looking for a meaning. It’s just a song. But I think “Mr Carter” would be great next. Has Jay Z and you can explains the Carters. Then maybe “Bill Gates”. Gotta love his off the cuff thinking.
Listen to: “Devil’s Work” by Joyner Lucas “Rolling Hills” by Jill Scott “Four Women” by Nina Simone “Evergreen” by Yebba “Glory” by Common /John Legend “ Stand Up” by Cynthia Erivo
The dad remembering all these random lines in lyrics from all the different rappers is so damn satisfying. I love when someone dives head first into the culture like your dad is doing.
Great video guys! Soooo glad yall are doing lil wayne. He practically birthed today's hip hop with his influence. Most rappers today have stated Wayne is their favorite including Kendrick Lamar on several occasions. Wayne is my favorite by a long shot and I'm glad my favorite reactors are diving into the massive catalog. Hope u dive into some of his lesser radio hits as well!
Can i recommend a song? DMX - Letter to my son (call your father) ft. Usher, Brian King Joseph ....an absolutely heartbreaking song to his son before DMX passed.
Gotta show your dad lil Wayne's "something you forgot" his most emotional song about his separation from his baby mama. Also p*ssy, money, weed.. absolutely hypnotic song that despite it's obviously crass nature is dare I say beautiful.. ok maybe not but both of those songs have a lot of musical elements your dad will be able to appreciate.
I do like his albums but I LOVE pretty much all his mixtapes, Not sure why folks don't appreciate them. Wayne is in his all own world and I enjoy exploring his creativity
The mention of Andre 3000 of Outkast by Lil Wayne and Eminem should have led you to him by default. Shout outs are a form of respect and admiration so coming from those two, should tell you something about his influence on the rap game. Players Ball is a Christmas song that I love cause it portrays holidays from another perspective of life. Southernplayalisticaddilacmuzik is a showcase of his lyrical talent. You guys are great! Keep it up!
Please react to this entire album! Such a masterpiece and really shows where rap was in the late 2000s! At the very least can you let him hear Dr. Carter? I think he'd really appreciate the storytelling.
Wayne is amazing freestyler man . Another rapper that raps instantaneously like him (hard bars with Sophisticated itundras) and off the dome is juice . I need you to tell your dad to react to juice freestyles.
3:09 “You pop 'em cause we pop 'em like Orville Redenbacher” for the longest time didn’t kn what he was saying then found out he was talkin about the popcorn brand
This is so great I genuinely enjoy your dads reaction ❤ the world/America needs to see things like this. It’s like a bridge we can meet on and find common ground. Thanks for having a open mind and heart, we appreciate it ❤ 12:42
i think one of the most iconic things about this song is that there is i believe four different versions that were released and leaked before the album version came out many fans fight and argue to this day about which version is the best‼️
