Yeah, that's cool. So, funny related story. I had a teacher who believed in this exact philosophy. I was a straight A student up til I got to this class. We were given a three months long project. I doublechecked the number of pages the project needed 3 times. 26 pages. What the teacher failed to inform me of was the size of the pages. So I made 26 pages of snake facts. Neat little details about lethality, variations etc. Teacher had me butcher them down to a third of the size due to formatting difference. Additionally, teacher informed me we were supposed to spread out with linebreaks substantially on the day of. For working my heart out, I got a C. Putting out my absolute best effort. From then on I never turned in homework, and put in the bare minimum effort, becoming a generic, tired gifted kid who just didn't care. I napped regularly during classes and when teachers tried to get me with embarassment by waking me up to call for the answer, I woke up, gave a completely wrong answer with utmost confidence, and went right back to sleep. Generally, positive input, positive output, scale to what positivity needs. Negative input, negative output.

@@chameon378 Two points to be made: 1. Arbitrary bullshit is not the same thing as valid criticism. 2. If it only took a single negative experience to destroy your motivation and work ethic, you never had any to begin with and never faced challenges in your life until that point. I think you spent so much time being an A student that you forgot that people can make mistakes, people fall but you have to learn from that and get up again, but for what you said, you were so used to be on the top and then you fell and gave up. Sometimes you need to fall to gain a new perspective and work yourself up again. If you give up you cannot go up. Now in the case of Bae, her father's point is, if you settle for what you get, you will stale, you have always to push harder to greater things. Nothing stays in the same place. Yeah, this assignment burnt me out on ever caring about school, it showed that teachers were arbitrary and that positive input did not equal positive output. You can claim expecting positive output for positive input is bad work ethic, to which I encourage you to demand your boss start arbitrarily not signing your paychecks on a weekly basis. Now, you're right in one respect, one bad teacher does not mean all teachers are bad. However, as a ten year old who just typed 26 pages on snakes at the time at the behest of a teacher who I had doublechecked with 3 times to try to figure out what I'd forgotten about the project because it seemed strange to me at the time, it kinda stuck with me and gave me the alternative lesson that you don't want to give with this sort of 'always strive' goalset. Sometimes, striving means nothing, so you should only strive inasfar as you can expect or ensure a reward.

@Dai anim Positive input equals positive output. Negative input equals negative output. If you wish to test this theory, get a kid. If the kid does something you like, beat them. See how often they do the thing you like. Simple, yes? You are suggesting negative input "Anybody can do that", results in positive output "Well I'll do something nobody can do."
