I couldn’t smell for close to 40 years. I had surgery to correct it. I remember the first time I smelled a flower. It was a Gardenia. I about cried. I understand the shock of what a lot of these people feel. It is inspiring to watch.
Lost the ability to smell and taste for almost a month years ago because of an infection. World became grey without smell and taste. One day I woke up and I was able to smell and taste again and it was like being reborn.
For anyone who is curious, my dad still wears his Enchroma glasses. He's a traveling sales man, so he keeps them in his car. They help him see stoplights and brake lights -- something he still can't get used to. He also brings them to special occasions - vacations mostly. Anyone who loses their favorite sunglasses as often as he does will understand why he's so protective of them. We bought him an indoor pair, but they don't fit his head. :) So we're hoping Enchroma launches bigger sizes for their indoor glasses. To answer some of the questions y'all have asked in the comments - we live in Savannah, Ga., my dad will always be the man who uses a hunter's knife (even for scotch tape), his first car was a yellow corvette (hence the comment I made), and he has spent most of his life outnumbered by ladies, and although we're pushy, we love him like crazy. He is my Superman in every way that matters.
I've heard it takes about 15 minutes before the person notices a difference with the glasses. Did your dad find that to be true? And how did you go about figuring which glasses to get him? I was looking at getting a pair for my father and don't know what type of colour blindness he has, just that he has it, and don't want to ask him and tip off that I'm looking into the Enchromas...
If the indoor glasses are just a little too small and the frames are plastic, you can heat up the hinges of the stems by running them under hot tap water or with a hairdryer until the plastic softens and then adjust the fit before they cool and reharden.
Kelsey Elam hey there this was a beautiful video but I couldn’t get over how beautiful of a place this was the Palm tree’s the huge forest! So beautiful. Can you tell me the country or state this is
Something I really appreciate about this guy is when he was able to see colors, he didn’t think of all the people with normal eyesight. He immediately thought of the people that had worse color-blindness than him. Which made him appreciate himself even more. We all should be following him.
I think the feeling of realizing how green the world is, is a moment everybody (also the non-colourblind) should experience some time in their lives. The earth is so beautiful, it's worth saving it.
This goes along with the abundance of green, but the biggest part is likely the colors constantly CHANGING and GLOWING with movement. Colorblindness is having issue seeing "shades" of specific colors. Example: The combination of sun and wind hitting the leafs in a tree causes a barrage of colors we take for granted. To a colorblind person I imagine it IS almost like seeing in black/white when looking at objects like that, until you put the glasses on. The trees/grass, etc. probably appear so bland and lifeless without seeing the color barrage.
I had that in a way, and i'm not even colorblind. i've just had lifelong depression, and i had one moment of piercing through it and honestly perceiving green as more green. It was psychological repression of color of some sort. I mean could certainly identify different colors as well as anyone. I was not actually colorblind, but I can relate to how this guy feels.
I've noticed a big theme. Certain colors catch people off guard, but most everyone is stunned by all the shades of green in nature. Sounds like the best place to do this is outdoors around a lot of greenery.
My DAD is green/red color blind, I'm buying him some of these this summer or spring when all the flowers are out. My eyes are green so he's gonna see his son's green eyes for the first time. He lives in GA as well.
Loved how the lady blew the suprise and couldn't wait just a few more seconds. it's usually the little children that blows it in these videos that I truly love
My mom sees mostly shades of gray with a slight tint depending on the color. We have to tell her if the red light is left, right, top, etc.... She's ran stop lights not knowing where the red was unless cars were in front of her. It's wild how these work. Some day there will be a surgery to correct this issue but having these glasses are amazing.
I love these vids so much, especially when one bloke says “The flowers! I don’t know why people don’t have flowers everywhere, all the time!” Makes me want to hug these lucky people. And when tough guys get all emotional, so sweet.
I love the reaction to the nature around them. The balloons are right there in front of them. But it's the shade of green in the trees and the colour of the sky that gets me tearing up more than anything.
"I didn't know there were so many shades of green." Wonderful! Thank you all for not only posting an "educational" video but also for sharing such a touching family event.
I think the main reason I enjoy these videos is how they exhibit an almost childlike sense of wonder. Usually towards nature even though there is colored balloons they are still in awe at how the natural world around them really looks. Like theyhave a deeper appreciation to the beauty of nature most people take for granted.
You can tell he has a strong character and also loving personality. I cried watching this. May the lord bless this man and his vision. Much love from Brooklyn NYC
This is friggin awesome!!! Ive been colorblind my entire life, And no colorblind doesnt mean we dont see colors, its just that certain pigments blend together, or some we cant see at all, blues look purple browns can look red or green etc. This is AMAZING!!
Thank you so much for posting this. My husband wasn't able to express all the differences he was seeing so I really didn't understand what he'd been going thru until he got his glasses. Your dad was able to articulate all the small things that were different for him. What a blessing for me to understand my dear husband more easily. He did find he can't drive with the glasses on, unfortunately, they make him dizzy. But, he's much older and everyone's a bit different. Lovely video. Thanks again.
My first child, I first found out that he was color blind when he was 7 years old. When I heard that there were glasses for color blind people, I tried to set aside funds to buy them color blind glasses. Now he is 26 years old, yet I still can't afford to buy him. Even after I am getting older now, I no longer have a job after an accident in 2011 ... I am really happy to see him can have glasses for color blindness .... God bless you all....
Hi. I'm from the Midwest, but now live in Georgia. I do think this is the prettiest part of America. I love it. The mountains are great too. You didn't even see how colorful it is. Yes, very green, but there is a lot more variety of trees, colors of insects, and flowers down here too. Kind of like the Rain Forest. So much more variety in color in everything in this area of NC and Georgia. The best. Africa is wonderful too, especially the wildlife!!! We have mountain lions and other wildcats here in the south as well. Not as many as Africa, but they are out there. I even came within ten and fifteen feet of both a mountain lion and a bobcat. I'm a woman, but a tomboy - outdoors girl. I was afraid but enjoyed at the same time. It wasn't safe. I just breathed, prayed and slowly got away. WOW! It was awesome being so close to those beautiful creatures, but scarry! I also had an eagle come full wing spread right in front of my Jeep Window, so less than a2 feet away That was incredible. ALL Nature is awesome. Enjoy the desert.
Our Aussie bush is lovely too, and we have brilliant wildflowers. But I’m sure your country is lovely too, just in its own different and special ways. I was in London for a month once and it was nice too, but really did feel odd to not have the greenery around me for so long, that weird feeling got more normal getting back home.
You have a very lovely family.. Such a wonderful moment for your all of you, especially your dad. And I can't get over what a great and lovely place you got!
I always notice in these videos, that ZERO of the subjects cares about the balloons ppl bring in. They always stare at nature .... trees and grass. Then someone points out the ballons, they look.. meh... and goes back to nature.
Saw many of these vids, love it. They all cry normally, and i can imagine! This guy didn't he allready dealt with the situation he was in, colorblindness, and was only suprised that they can make this kind of classes. Strong man.
Crazy awesome backyard you have there^^ My girlfriend went nuts when she saw a traffic light the first time..before it was just a light greenish brown and a darker brown..suddenly it was bright green and red.
This is TOTALLY AWESOME!!! I’m not color blind, but I had cataract surgery last year and the first time I went outside afterward, I was AMAZED at what I had been missing...not only in clarity, but also in color. I remember I couldn’t stop looking at the blue sky. I remember thinking I couldn’t remember the last time I saw color/clear like that. So I can somewhat relate to how your dad feels. 🌺🍄🌼🌸💐🌹🌻🌷
Something about watching a tough guy playing with balloons gives me faith in humanity. We never know what’s going to change our view of the world or when. We could turn a corner and be awestruck at any moment. That’s why I never quit at life.
People should always embrace when they get these glasses. The father is hiding his emotions but he must have been deeply shocked and very happy. I wish him many many years of joy.
Dad keeps a mean edge on his knife. What a cool present. I can't imagine missing out on all the beautiful colors in life. I wonder if the engineers of these glasses knew what a game changer it would be. It would be really cool if they could develop them in a contact lens form! Awesome, so happy for you guys & your Dad. Excellent choice of presents! It's so fun to watch the recipients go out & explore the colorful world around them!😎👍
This was really cool to watch. Thank you so so much for sharing his experience with all of us. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to be colorblind. And, to hear him expressing ‘WOW’ as many times as he did, it shows you his thrill at seeing the world in a whole new light.
Videos like these do a much better job of getting people to buy a product than a commercial ever could. And it doesn't even cost the enchroma company anything. He was amazed at how many shades of green there are but what really made me happy is when he spotted that Cardinal instantly. He said earlier in the video that he would like to see a cardinal now and he got his wish. I need to stop more often and just enjoy the world around me.
Awesome, so happy for you! I'm suddenly addicted to every video of these "awakenings" and each one brings tears to my eyes! Yours was more awe and amazement and it was really cool to watch. Thanks for sharing this slice of your reality 😊
He's trying so hard to be a hard guy but it's just beneath the surface of his face how great he feels! Alright tough guy, we can still see it! Great for you!
Can you imagine being with someone not knowing they are colorblind and you keep asking them how does your makeup, dress, and shoes look and do you like their color combinations? And they are like yea its ok...then they get these glasses and the lights come on and see the beauty of life around them 🙂
They shelled out for the really cool ones. Those look great! (I was starting to think they all looked like military bc glasses.) It’s amazing how Enchroma glasses emotionally impact these colorblind men. Love your entire family! I’m a USMC veteran & your dad is so reminiscent of my fellow Marines (to include my ex AND my son.) Stoic, in-charge, even his baldness! Beautiful property & house, too, ya’ll! Congratulations, dad!
I'm from Wisonsin. I have lived in Georgia 14 years and 4 years in NC. I KNEW it was the South around here. I LOVE the south. The colors and variety of trees, flowers and insects is so colorful. Rocky Mountains is as close to Rain Forest as it comes in America. I've been to Colorado and The Alps. The NC Mountains (and North Georgia) and landscape is the most beautiful of all. I'm STILL amazed by it. I thought I must have died and gone to heaven when I got here. I had loved the mountains before. I was NOT prepared for how beautiful it would be. I didn't know about how rich the colors and variety were, or all the rich green. HEAVEN before HEAVEN. :) When I drove thorugh the Black Mountains, I litterally had to stop and look up to heaven to thank God. WOW! I bet your dad totally loved it when he saw the mountains and colors in the fall. Oh, my! You must all really love being able to share this together which such a beutiful and close family. I saw your mom tear up in the video. How sweet. You are very fortunate to have such a close family all devoted to one another. Make sure you choose a man for his heart and character, like your mom and dad.
This makes the gift of sight for colour more precious.. we don't need to see colour to live but colour adds joy .. our creator Jehovah wants us to experience the kind of joy this family just experienced..
7:31 he almooooost cracked right there. He turned away and changed the subject just as his bottom lip started to go. Bless him, thats a man who's never taking them off.
I am not color blind but when I dose mescaline it amplifies color to the point where I find it incredible how many shades of green are in the grass alone.
You know what's funny? The manual mentions that how long it takes to see a difference is related to the plasticity of the persons brain. Basically how open minded they are. So whenever we see these dads and etc seeing a change right away it tends to be an indicative of a father with an open mind and way of thought. Almost directly related to them getting it from kids and people that love them! It's a sign of a great father.
Those nerves have nothing to do with personality. Plasticity isn’t a personality, it’s just a physical characteristic. Stop making stuff up that denigrates the personality of people who these don’t work on
