Well I guess if you're going to teach a cat to speak English, and he's as sensitive as Todd about everyone's wellbeing; then you owe it to him to prepare him for an abnormal day! He obviously got the message! Love you Todd
Todd making sure dad was in good order! protecting him while dad slept! so sweet! the cats in my house kept me in good way when i was getting treatments ! , loved being packed together with all the crew.
Aw. Todd is the best boy! My Magenta kitty has to sleep tucked under my arm every night and anyone who says animals don't love and have emotions like humans either never owned a cat before or doesn't have a soul.
My one cat used to body slam me hard when he was kitten, so he could lay with me. When i had abdominal surgery, he very gingerly slid down on me & curled up by my stomach purring like locomotive. As i healed, his body slams slowly went back to normal. He’s 12 now & still body slams to lay down. 😹
Well done, Dad! I try to give my dog and cats (especially the older cat who seems to listen and understand better) a heads-up whenever something unusual is going to happen. I'm never sure if they completely understand at the time I'm telling them, but they probably put it together after the fact, and I feel like they appreciate my effort to take them into consideration.
It's so good that you know Todd can understand everything you're saying here. What a wonderful thing to be able to prepare him for a difference in circumstance. It would totally help him not to do get overly worried about you. Dad go vet ❤
Interesting choice of how to explain it. I might have tried "Dad ouch soon. Dad happy later." but that might be more worrying for Todd. Or, he might figure out that it was a situation like with Glamour's back... hard to know.
My cat(s) is/ are very affectionate and shows/ed me love, actually lies next to me purring. But when I cry or am in any way weak, ill she/they always hid somewhereand acted afraid of the situation. And I think that is also okay and doesn´t mean they do love their human less then a cat that acts like Todd did. My former cat for example did. As humans also cats have their own individual personalities. Of cause I loved when my former cat acted very caring, groomed me so intensively that I woke up with the upper half of my hair he had acces to wet (yes, it did stink a bit like catfood but it was the sweetest🥰) and still licking my "fur". But I get they are just afraid and don´t know what´s going on and just try to give them their needed security when I am able to again.
Years ago, after a serious surgery that kept me in bed a few weeks, my cat wouldn't leave my side to the point his health declined. Sure wish I'd had the ability to reassure him I'd be OK after awhile. When I was up and around he bounced back, too. Animals are amazing in their caring.
One of my 3 went on a fast when I was taken away by ambulance. I was gone for 3 weeks and he was scary boney. One of my girls became extremely clingy and they destroyed all the window shades. Only my smallest girl was fine but very frustrated that my friends who were feeding her didn't understand that meowing from the bedroom means come in and visit
Your interactions with Todd should be shown to young parents, explaining things to their toddlers, etc. You are so patient with him and take the time to explain things ahead of time to him in a way that is so loving. I love watching your interactions together.
I tell my pet when I am going to mow the lawn and I leave the TV on (not too loud) so she hears human voices so she doesn't feel alone, because they really do bond to your presence, and separation anxiety is real.
I pet sit, and I always tell pet owners to try to convey to the pet(s) that they love them enough, they have asked that nice lady to take care of you while we’re gone, AND VERY IMPORTANTLY, when they will return (and drive home the points that the animal(s) did nothing wrong, that they’re loved and that this nice lady will come watch them and love on them while they’re gone. It really helps!
I've always believed (more so known) that animals understand more than we think they do. I find picturing everything in your mind while talking to them seems to help. ❤
I have no doubt Todd understood every word. I'm glad everything went well and I wish you a speedy recovery. ❤ No better medicine than a Todd cuddle. Such a smart and amazing kitty he is.
I hope your recovery is swift and comfortable, Dad! And I just LOVE how patient you are when explaining anything to Todd. He takes a bit to process, not due to a lack of intelligence, but because Cats somewhat "overthink" everything; thinking about then deleting, moving on through many possibilities about everything they encounter or sense [hear, see, smell.] And, using his style of communication is brilliant. He does understand English very well, but he will never see any point in using conjunctions and complex sentences. It's more sensible and quick to truncate sentences, in Todd's mind. So, you do the same when speaking directly to him. Exellent! Thank you for sharing all this, about your procedure happening and that it went well, and Todd clearly understanding everything you said, including that he "can' [more like should!] check in with Dad and snooze with him, making sure Dad is safe while he's recovering from the Vet Visit.
Good to hear all went well. The vet thing got me thinking-a human doctor is just a very specialzed vet ;-) And I suppose vet smells and human doctor smell that lingers in your clothes will not be that different. Todd slept near you to protect you- he could probably sense that you were not the mighty, protective dad, but a drowsy dad ;-) Just imagine how bad it must be for cats that have no buttons and have never learned to understand humans and more abstract concepts. Their caregiver is sick-that must cause terrible faer.
As a home health care professional, I can state that when my client falls (which happens occasionally), the cat remains steadfastly beside my client until the paramedics arrive to assist in returning to the wheelchair. Kitty will not leave their side until my client is safely being assisted!
My friend told me I talk to my cat as if he understands, It was then that I realised I had been doing this since I started watching the button kittes on RU-vid, I was going to by my cat some buttons, however, I had reservations, I thought my cat was too old to start learning the buttons as he is 17 years old, I decided to me may own button system from some buttons I already had and a Raspberry Pi SBC, I was correct he wasn't interested in them at all even though I started by reward treats, I consider my cat as intelligent as he has always manged to communicate his needs to me, usually if treat time is late! All of this makes me even more appreciative of Todds abilities and intelligence and it most definitely proves that our feline friends have intelligent thought and happiness and sadness and consideration for others. I wish I could learn to speak kitty, I guess Im not that intelligent!
I think it's wonderful how the buttons help teach us humans how to talk to our cats. I have also noticed that in multi-cat households, it's only 1 cat that does the buttons. I am sure there are a variety of reasons for this. But my main theory is that it is a game most cats find uninteresting.
@@amarketing8749And not everyone is interested in learning language. Since the button--using cats often ask for toys for the others, for them it's like letting your bilingual friend place your order for you. 🙂
🐈⬛This made me think about all the statues showing cats as healers and protectors. Not just in Ancient Egypt, but all over the world. Todd is part of that tradition. It's wonderful that Dad appreciates how sensitive Todd is! All the best and good health to your household! 💝
Ahhh...that brought tears to my eyes! Todd is unbelievable in his capacity to understand empathize with other animals and people. Your videos help me understand my kitties better and the ones with the rescue where I volunteer. Thank you both❤
That shows how much cats can understand and how much they are capable of communication skills and not just dumb uncaring instinct driven robots!😻😻😻❤ Hope you are feeling better!
What a smart good caring kitty. Dad, I hope your procedure goes smoothly and you are feel better soon. My mom passed away after being ill with cancer when I was 12, over 50 years ago. Our Siamese cat was always with my mom, loved her and comforted her. After my mom died, our kitty mourned her. She went around the house looking for her, meowing and was inconsolable.
Hope the procedure went well ! Todd surprises me again and again and is proof that we should give way more credit to other animals inteligence and feelings. Thans for sharing Todd, Glamour and Paulie with us !
You are such a wonderful cat-daddy! Todd clearly understood your explanation, especially good that you repeated it. Very happy your vet visit went well and you had your protector with you while you recovered.❤❤❤
Yes, Todd, it's sad but true! Sometimes we need to go to the Vet too! :( Thank you for looking out for everyone and keeping an eye on them when they come back, though, including Dad!
Hi 👋 very happy to hear your procedure went well, I have had my share and hate going through them.... Of course Todd and the others kitties were concerned about you, they know when you are not feeling well and they love you. 👍 👍
