I Love the interaction Yanis has with your dad Billy, especially when he says let’s crack on then puts his arm on your dads shoulder and says come on Mick. He looks up to your dad as his own father figure.
Mick's description and demo of the installation of the terracotta ceilings was fascinating. Until the explanation I couldn't work out how it possible to use terracotta for a ceiling. Thanks Mick.
Oh Billy! Plaster boarding on your own? (Gyproc we call it in Australia). I've renovated five houses and gyprocing on your own is HELL! My heart goes out to you young man.
@@rorystapleton2838 Yes, it sure is heavy over here, I've watch men working and it's always 2 men per sheet. My Dad built his own home here in Sydney back in the 50's and did everything on his own, he designed and built a lift for the gyprock. The only exception was the gyprock on the large loungeroom ceiling, his brother drove down from near the Queensland border to help with that one. Mick P reminds me so much of my Dad who could do anything.... 🦘
I love it when Mick explains how things were constructed in the past. I’ve never seen that type of ceiling before and I appreciate his taking the time.
Billy says : “it says 1985, of course I wasn’t born yet “ I had to shake my head, I was born in 1954 and that made me feel ancient ! This November I will turn 70 !
When my parents remodeled their kitchen they found on a piece of wood the contractor wrote " Yesterday was December 7th, 1941 and Pearl Harbor was attacked." This was in Oregon, USA. Thought you might find that interesting.
Watching Nick at 80 is so encouraging.. I’ve still got some life left too. Can’t believe I survived Vietnam War and civil rights protests, disco partying in the 70 -80’s, raising 2 kids like Billy, Michael and Sadie, 2 marriages outliving one of them.. Grandkids and great grandkids now that we will leave this world for them to live hopefully in PEACE.. I can say, “It’s been the best of times and the worst of times”.. Love Charles Dickens💜
Billy, save your back and purchase a sheetrock (plaster board) cart. Carrying each piece from one building to another is for the birds! If a wind caught the sheetrock while you’re bringing it over, you could put yourself out of commission for days or weeks. It would also save you so much time, it would pay for itself very quickly.
Billy, a sheet rock cart will also handle doors laid on their sides, several at a time, they are easy to rig with ratchet straps to lift bundles of sheet rock up to upper floors. Also, if you are setting on a frame that has regular dimensions, you can use your tape measure, locked for each line to layout for the screws. And last, real sheet rock guys change the knife blade two or three times a day- save time and it actually prevents getting hurt when stuck blades suddenly come free. Best to you all!
Mick is incredible. 80 years and still going strong. I'm about to turn 60, still working full time in a hot kitchen in Spain. Mick inspires me to crack on.
oh right billy lad now you have your round table set up in library. You need to gather you knights around with a ouija board and do your ghost prospecting.
Wow alot of us in our 70s. My baby boy just turned 50. That made me feel old! I do love being retired and can indulge in architecture history travel. These vlogs bring me joy! So happy to see young people work to save history.
The convent would make perfect settings for Gwen's seminars if she is still doing them. Library for group work and/or guest speakers. Cosy breakfasts/lunches/dinners in the dining room after having prepared it together in the kitchen and in the evening chilling in a room with a big fireplace and afterwards of to bed in one of the lovely bedrooms with onsuites. What's not to love. ⛪️❤
@heehaw8401 I can't remember what the subject was, but I believe it was exclusively for women. She talked about it once at the chateau probable a couple of years ago.
Here in the states we call it sheet rock and with my father , husband and brother all journeyman carpenters I have "helped" more like a gopher , when they had to hang plaster board. It's heavy and the fact that you can score and break it makes the job bearable. You are doing a great job and each day makes me look forward to the next ...thank you for letting me walk with you along this journey 😊
Nick from ‘One turret short of a chateau’ bought a plastic handle which makes carrying plaster boards easier for 1 person, I believe it was very inexpensive, maybe you can pick one up from Bricco ❤
I love when your dad uses his experience and knowledge to explain what's going in, and what's need. He's a great man, your dad. I had to laugh when you say things like it's wonky but that's fine. Or it's close enough. That coming from the king of 'it's spot on'. I won't be surprised in later videos if you don't come back and confess that you went back and corrected the things that were off a bit. 😊
Suggestion: Leave your mark somewhere for future people to discover? My husband and I left notes, pictures and newspaper heading in the walls as we built our home!
I love that & was thinking they should do the same thing. Leave some time capsules! Put some writing on some walls inside too. Maybe they should sign their names.
Place your recorder near the chair circle.....the Moody Blues.....Nights in White Satin.....Breath deep the gathering gloom, watch lights fade from darkened rooms......eerie!
Billy, you are younger than my kids. My youngest was born in 1984. Yanis is in all his glory by exerting his pent up energy on the demolition. I love the relationship he has with your dad. Billy don’t injure your back with those heavy plaster boards. Look at Edd from Bordeaux Life. His bad back is a constant problem for him. Take care of yourself while your young.
Billy, those spaces behind the wall would make great closets or pantrys for storing extra serving items for the dining room. Items like folding tables, chairs, flower vases, table linens, chafing dishes. I have a closet for these items just outside my dining room and it's really convenient to have these items so close to the dining room when setting the room up for entertaining.
Your showing your OCD. THose of us that also have obsession thoughts are never happy until it's fixed or put back precisely where we had it. I can relate.
A dimpler bit would make it easier to secure the drywall and not damage the board face. It allows you to screw in faster. Enjoy watching you transform the building and the camaraderie of the crew. Yanis and Mick are a joy watching as they interact.
Billy we can feel the sense of excitement and joy in you, with this library construction. It's a huge undertaking and responsibility, and it's coming on.
Another wonderful video! The progress being made is absolutely incredible!!! My family and I can't wait to see all that will be accomplished at the Covent with your amazing team! Thankfully, the storms have passed here and everyone is safe. Praying for everyone's safety who is experiencing bad weather or weathering a storm in life🙏🕊 Thank you Billy, Mick, Rick Yanis, Alex, and Simon, for your amazing work. You are all always in our prayers! Be safe and take care!!! "May the Lord bless you and keep, make His face to shine down upon, may He watch over you and give you His peace." Numbers 6: 24-26
Suggestion: putting in niches with lights in the walls on each side of the door for trinkets, paintings, dishes, books or whatever). Your framing is quite deep, it can accommodate some easilly. Cheers.
Billy, did you have formal training in carpentry, masonry, and electrics, or did you learn these skills on your own? I marvel at your level of knowledge and the use of a wide range of tools in all these areas. Brilliant ! 👍😎
Billy, amazing to hear your plans for the days and months and years to come even as you do the day-to-day renovations. Your creativity knows so bounds! Thanks for sharing.
The woodwork in the new library reminds me of the old wood panels removed from the refectory. But the library will look awesome and classic when completed.
I think today was a tool belt day, Billy. Put your belt on in the morning and pack with the tools ,nails, etc. for the jobs that day. Will save you a lot of messing about . You made me giggle 🎉 thanks for sharing ❤
Those gaps in between the rooms are perfect for making rooms for storage, cleaningstuff, aso. So you don’t have to walk through the whole convent to get stuff. Make it a hidden door so no one will know its there ❤
Everyone is so busy and everything is moving along nicely. The display cases could be used to display the things you have found around and in the convent. Yanis and your dad have a nice working relationship. Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoy the videos. Fascinating to see the layers of past remods. Glad to see your passion on this project. Shimming that slightly off stud reflects that passion. If you are unaware, there are sheet rock/plasterboard carrying handles available to save your back. Looking forward to more progress. Crack on.😁
They make a handle to carry your heavy "things". They also make a dry wall bit that stops the screw at the correct depth. Foot prints on plaster board are cool because people always wonder how they got there. Yanis is doing his favorite thing. 1985 I was 39.
The library display glass cabinets feel like they’re heading upstairs. What do you have in mind, Billy? - so inspiring to see the quality work you and your whole team do.
Yes Billy electric tool do work better with electricity 😂😂😂 Just as funny as when the power goes and you walk by a switch and hit it to turn the light on, then don't shut it off. The power comes on and your house lights up like a lighthouse.😂
Billy will know it's not all level, even if you won't be able to tell. That's because Billy is a perfectionist!!!! It would bother him if it weren't perfect.
