Hey Dovydas! Was so cool to meet you and watch you do your thing. My son is the one who asked for Steely Dan. He's playing drums and got a real kick out of watching you put that together. The beautiful and amazing thing about watching this extraordinary talent play music whether his 100% originals or his 95% originals.. 😃.. is he just plays his heart out! He's not there to imitate anyone. This guy has his own way and his own path. He's confident in his impressive abilities and he's not afraid to take the chance of doing something "wrong". I've watched dozens of videos and I don't see where he's ever played something wrong! It's Dovydas interpretation and conveyance.. take it or leave it.. and I think everyone who comes into contact with this performer is taking something away from it! It's totally obvious this guy is as original as they come. He's not tied into anything.. any one particular sound or audience. The guy is a hell of a talent!

Been a 70s Rock fan for 30 years, but never got round to studying Steely Dan until my uncle showed them to me last summer. He died last month. I will carry the torch onward.

Look at our talent-packed guy here: He's on a stage, he's in a foreign country, and a local, bonafide "nuclear family," has requested a song. A Steely Dan song. Way hard!! Under this pressure, he listened to a couple bars of the song. Then w/his myriad instruments, he cranked out some Steely Dan, jazzy essence and all, like it's easy. 🤩🙏🎵🎼

Never heard Dovydas do a poor half-hearted attempt at a song. They have ALL been good quality renditions, very nice. He is never afraid to stretch himself, great musicians are always learning and trying new stuff.

OMG! I could listen to him ALL DAY LONG!!! Its hard to put into words how masterful and creative he is when playing his guitar. Add to the fact that there are several songs he has to "learn" first. I MUCH PREFER his versions that the originals...and everything that he adds to the songs sound like that's exactly what should be played in that exact moment in the song...very harmonious and fluid. Its almost magical. His playing makes me very happy!

Fantastic! I remember that little plaza from when I worked in Charlotte in early 2000's. Worked in the tall building across the street. Wish I were there to see this cat.

When the kid dropped in some money, I was suddenly reminded of the old Melanie lyric, "They put in a nickel and I sing a dollar song." Musicians who are out there busking on the streets are the realest of the real, following their dreams and doing it for passion. But you sometimes neglect the fact of how sad a life it could also be---cause it's not just playing for passion, is it? It's also about pleasing people and their passing whims. They pass by and they hear you, they wanna rest for a minute and listen to their favorite song, so they pressure you into playing it and learning it, and though they don't say it, they measure your worth by your ability to play what they say. If you do a decent job, they cheer and clap, and they leave you some change, and then they breeze on back into their routines and their next thing, and you're lucky if they remember you the next day. Okay, they'll remember you, but only as the roadside attraction. They'll recount it one day as "remember that guy who did a Steely Dan improv? He was good!"; "yeah, he was alright, what's his name?" "David something---with the goatee, Dave Days? I think he was Greek." "Hey, Greek sounds good! Let's get some Feta cheese!" Of course Dovydas has the RU-vid, and the online business and loyal following, but others aren't as lucky. The reality for most of them is that they go out there to play their music expecting to eventually "make it" if they do it enough, but instead they learn the 50 different ways to sing "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and they become jaded of their own music. Not particularly throwing shade, I love Jim Croce. But my point is just, nobody really stops and asks Dovydas what he wants to play, do they? But hey, that's the life of it, you go back, Jack, and keep on doing it again until the wheels start to turn in your favor. Although I think he's very lucky to have a wife and partner who supports him in his art and passion. I think that's important in a man's success. In fact, that's what I'd be interested to hear next---the music that they both enjoy. What do the Dovydases want to play? Love and greetings.

Holy crap Dovy!!! My father said to me one time that if he was stranded on a deserted island, but had a chance to listen to only one artist or band the whole time he was stranded, he chose Steely Dan. I couldn’t agree more. This was a great video to wake up to.
