It galls me because Daemon couldn’t care LESS about that throne 😭 how is it so hard to understand that Daemom genuinely wanted his family to succeed whether it’s him on the throne or not. In the BOOKS at least 😭

This is exactly what I was getting from Daemon all of season 1. He is completely loyal to his family and will inflict any type of vengeance that he knows that his brother will not enact. But, season 2 is throwing me off.
I hate that I was right in my predictions on how they were going to write his character. The minute I heard the hat the producers were shocked at how popular Daemon was among the audience last season, I KNEW they were gonna try to “rectify” that. It’s so unprofessional and incredibly annoying when the narrative tries to manipulate viewers’ opinions towards the showrunners’ personal likings and biases.
In the books, the mistrust between Rhaenyra and Daemon happens only after Mysaria poisons Rhaenyra's mind against Nettles. So well after they take Kings Landing. But now that Nettles is cut... Well.
That's actually my point. Like Matt saying he would never harm Nyra when he choked her and frightens her in two different episodes... make it make sense.
Daemon in the books: as good as he is bad, a complex grey character with love for his family Daemon in the show: A villanous manchild without any redeemable... Wait, what? He's supposed to be grey? Well, he, ammm... He gave a coin to a beggar once. There you go. NOW LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT HIM HATING HIS FAMILY Seriously, i can't believe we have to defend daemon at this point, but it is ridiculous how bad they portrayed him, even with Matt's best efforts for doing him some justice. It is also so blatantly obvious that Sara Hess is influencing all this, because she has explicitly stated that she sympathises with Aegon and Criston but she's unable to understand Daemon 🙄🤦🏻♂️

She has a book that spoon-fed her a explicitly grey character and an explicit child and woman abuser, and she sees the latter as a pookie and the former as an irredeemable monster that for some odd reason people like and ship with other characters. She's entitled to her opinions, but if I'm doing a project and one of my writers openly dislikes one of the main characters, I would try to make sure it doesn't affect her work as it is with HotD
Thank you for expressing all my thoughts. It feels like he's a grown-up teenager in the show. Ryan ruined the character and is proud of it. And judging by the new leaks, daemon will not do anything in the war, but only go crazy, then rhaenyra will arrive and for some reason he will start apologizing. I hate what they did to this character, he acts like a teenager and says stupid things like "kill Grandpa with a pillow." Matt has a lot of potential to play a charismatic leader, but they messed it up.
They are wasting Matt Smith’s incredible talent. It is an absolute shame. I hadn't heard that leak abt daemon. So he's still gonna be hallucinating nxt episode and not get anything done??? 😑😕😑 thank you for watching ❤❤
The writers clearly hate that much, that I'm actually starting worry they might change his ending. Just to make him look even more pathetic. If that happens, the writers will have achieved something I didn't think possible. Making me like GOT season 8.
You're absolutely right and so far the only thing that keeps the GA charmed with Daemon has been his sense of humour but even now it seems they're getting tired of his antics. Bad writing everywhere!
Sheesh, cant say i agree with the Daemon Rhaenyra take, but im glad theres many different takes on all the different show dynamic. Means its a show worth talking about in detail.
Thank God I found your videos bc I needed an outlet to resolve my issues with HOTD. They are ruining some of the best written characters of all time especially Daemon. Most shows today don’t know how to write these nuanced characters, they can’t give them depth. It’s so frustrating. Nah, actually, it pisses me off. Thank you for this breakdown. Can’t wait to watch more content, esp about the leaked s2e8. They pretty much killed Daemon’s arc, it’s fucking terrible.
I think they are trying to make him the Jaime of this story. Alys is supposed to be his Brienne, the two half of the same whole btw him and rhae same with cersei and jaime, and I supposed Bran being throw out of the window = him ordering the murder of Jaehaerys.
