Rhaenyra & Daemon _absolutely_ enabled Laenor to run away to Essos. She outright says "the Sea provides esacpe" while talking about house Velaryon. Daemon responds to Rhaenyras marriage proposal to him & acknowledging Laenor needs to not be her husband anymore "if you love him let him be free". Daemon also straight up murders an unfortunate dude to provide the corpse stand in for Laenors "death". I would say neglecting mentioning Helaena & Viserys are Dreamers in F&B is also a notable change.

Yeah he went back to face the music. That was brave ain't gonna lie I'd have been far far away by the time the news reached my mother. He couldn't have known his brother would welcome the news of igniting a war with a celebration. I do think because Aegon had been sheltered his entire life he didn't truly understand how badly a war could hurt him and his. Like he knew about war but he didn't KNOW war. He probably thought they'll just crush their enemies in one swoop and everything will be alright. Aemond's 'easy victory' probably also lured him into a false sense of security. That or he thought his grandfather and mother will deal with his problems like they always did. Not making excuses for Aegon but up until this point there weren't many consequences for actions beyond a slap or two from his mother and a scolding. Also Rhaenyra had never actually attempted to hurt her brothers. Maybe he thought ruthlessness wasn't in her nature? Or maybe he just forgot about Daemon...

As disappointing GOT Season 8 was, D&D at least proved they can do well with the first 4 seasons, and unlike The Song of Ice and Fire, the good thing about prequels is that the story already incorporated into the lore. I just think that they were like either bored with working on GOT or maybe they couldn't really use the ending that George has planned because they fucked up some of the storylines/killed off certain people (like Stannis) and completely excluded other characters and storyline. I really respect Viserys, a lot of people call him a weak and vassilating king for doing things like not forcing people to do something or supporting the war in the stepstones straight away. But I’d like to remind everybody that while things seem chaotic in the capital, if your an average dude living in the Riverlands or really anywhere else in the kingdom, things are pretty good, since wars, especially civil wars, tend to be bad for basically everyone. In Russia, between the reigns of Ivan lll who history calls “Ivan the great,” and Ivan IV who history calls “Ivan the terrible/fearsome,” was Vasily lll who people jokingly refer to as “Vasily the competent,” because he didn’t win any major wars, expand the empire, or do much of anything besides keep the peace. Rhaenyra and Daemon were definitely in on the plan of faking Laenor's death. There's that scene of Daemon arranging it with Ser Qarl. I think it was also like the first huge hard decision Viserys had to make in a consecutive, horrible line of hard choices, up to his death. It was horrific, absolutely, but I honestly give points to anything that's honest about pregnancy and childbirth: Like people always forget how dangerous it is, back then and now.

I think that regarding Alicent and Larys' actions, my perspective on it is that it amplifies the fact that Alicent is and has been exploited and taken advantage of by men for her entire life. She says it herself regarding her father, and while Viserys was not cruel to her, he represents the loss of innocence she has experienced. Similarly towards how she treats Aegon, who she also views as representation of the end of her childhood which is why she is rarely portrayed as a good mother. The show has left me a lot more divided on who's side I'm on, mainly because of their portrayal of Alicent which I prefer quite a bit.

Most famously, Henry VIII was always furious his father never let him joust, and his various councilmembers didn't let him joust either, and yet when he eventually overruled him, he famously had a very bad fall, and it's that that is often held responsible for his sudden turn towards sadism and paranoia.

Daemon was the one to kill some guy who was later believed to be dead Laenor, thus, no way he wasn’t on the plot. And I think that Rhaenyra’s words indicate that she was also in on this plot

I’m sure this has been mentioned a thousand times, but a note on the theme: go re-listen to “The Prince that was Promised”, that FUCKING INCREDIBLE tune from the end of the pilot, then listen to a track called “The Promise”. *Yeah*. Ramin Djiwadi caught lightning in a bottle for a second time, but HBO chickened out.

I actually think the show did a perfectly fine job of showing Ser Criston's coercion into smexing Rhaenyra due to her abuse of power, even without the historical context. I mean, the boy does nothing except say 'no' the whole time. And afterward, he's so ashamed he wants her to runaway and marry him just so he can feel less defiled and dirty about the ordeal, and then has a very public essentially psychological-break and meltdown because she refuses to basically salvage his honor. And, similarly, I think the show also did a perfectly fine job of establishing the fears of Viserys' council as to how unfit for ruling they thought Daemon was. And such. Even without historical context. And, honestly, I like that it's kept much more personal and close-to-home .. rather than being distanced by historical precedence. But maybe that's just me? 🤔😁

If I'm remembering correctly there is a blink and you'll miss it cameo of who I assume is meant to be Mushroom during one of the scenes latter in the show where Viserys has music played and one of the musicians visibly has dwarfism. Given how Mushroom constantly overplays everything about the actual people involved in his account in fire and blood its very possible he also completely overstated his role at court, turning himself from simple musician who overheard a lot of important details and was intelligent enough to piece together a few others to the families personal jester and making important comments at council meetings. (that or it was just a hat tip to book readers to acknowledge the character that the show had cut)
@septesix

There is a theory going on that the purport “Mushroom” was actually the borrowed pen name of another source, perhaps Septon Eustance, who used this name to write down any account that he cannot officially said in his record.

I dislike how they took away Alicent's agency. In the show, it's all, "Oh, poor baby, things were FORCED on her," Why can't she be a badass leader of a coup? A Margiery/Cerci hybrid. A Lady Olena? Sure, she may not be responsible for ALL of it, but why not just take advantage of opportunities? I think that would make her more interesting than the whiny thing we have now.

I think the idea of “Aegons Dream” is delightfully ambiguous and very interesting to think about. On the one hand maybe he did have a dream or Daenys the dreamer had one or whatever that he used as reason to conquer Westeros. On the other hand it could have been an excuse to conquer the continent for a simply personal reason to take over an entire continent. Or maybe it started as a political conquest and he learned of the Others from Torren Stark. It would be interesting to see this in an actual show but the likelihood doesn’t seem high for the time being.

Considering high born girls/women relationships we see in asoiaf I would say the age gap is actually not an issue in regards to them being friends. Seeing as they are both unmarried daughters of highborns at court, they were very likely to spend time together doing activities such as reading, hawking, sewing etc. So probably not the same relationship, but they could have a decent friendship.

Wasn't it Daemon who secured the fake corpse for Laenor's supposed murder? I seem to remember him killing some rando lookalike, then Laenor's lover kicked shit off with the fight. Seems to have been a planned fakeout; and I would guess this was at Rhaenyra's insistence. Her and hubby were good enough friends and allies that she wouldn't have stood for his actual death.

People often say in defense of changes the show makes that unlike with ASOAIF the book is in-universe history text with conflicting accounts and agendas ect. Me, I think a much better argument is that unlike with Game of Thrones, the show isn't just adapting the book, but trying to turn it into an Actual Story instead of just a lore document to one. Sure, everything about Alicent's relationship with Rhaenyra is made up for the show, and that's a good thing, because it created an emotional core to it that the original didn't need. IMO, possibly my favorite change is Criston Cole. In Fire&Blood he's just a one-note jerkwad, the show makes him into vocel Lancelot. I'm honestly suprised this wasn't straight from GRRM, because in books he's treated a as a foil to other characters and it works much better with the show version. It's like if Arys Oakheart failed to get himself killed and turned into Kylo Ren.

Okay, fuck! This is gonna be a interesting challenge for lost in adaptation, as House of the Dragon is based on a bias history book where you have to consider everything being said. Like Daemon is accused of a lot of shit, but you can easily argue that the maester writing the book is biased against Daemon and awlays comes to the worst conclusions about him when the truth is unclear. Considering we are meant to question a lot of things in Fire and Blood then what really counts as a change really? I can't wait to see how you handle this challenge O__O
