In the first book, Daenerys actually asks all of her Kas to be blood of her blood and be her blood riders. They all refuse until she walks out from the flames with the dragons, and all three of them swear to be blood of her blood and thus become her Queens guard.

What you said about the Khas isn’t true at all, they aren’t just “killers.” They are her blood riders, they fight for her and protect her with their lives. If she dies, they avenge her death, then they kill themselves because their job is done. I would argue that a blood rider is a stronger bond than a Kingsguard. If you are named as a Bloodrider in Dothraki culture, you are not supposed to outlive your Khal or Khaleesi in this instance. They are not just killers, they are probably the most loyal and serious when it comes to protecting the “blood of their blood”. The only real difference is that in the Seven Kingdoms the King can be a craven or a weak boy and needs protecting, whereas in Dothraki culture the Khal, is the best warrior in the whole Khalasar and doesn’t really need protection. However, in the show and books, it’s shown that they understand that Dany is not Khal Drogo and do protect her. Whenever someone goes to hand her something, they take it first, they’re always by her side, and they even cross the red waste for her. They aren’t just killers and I’m not trying to sound like an ass, but it completely diminishes the role of a bloodrider. It’s one of the most powerful and honorable “roles” you can have in the books and it’s held by “the savages”. How many Kingsguard have betrayed their King in the history, I guarantee a ton more than a Khal’s blood riders. That bond goes beyond saying an oath before gods and men, it is their whole way of life and they don’t understand anything else than fighting and dying for the blood of their blood.

I just finished rewatching Game of Thrones and was really disappointed with the ending, but I didn't want to read the books. (Mainly because I had read an excerpt that was particularly nasty and I wasn't too thrilled with the entirety of the books being the same way.) However, I was still interested in learning more about the books and came upon your videos. They were so thorough and detailed that I decided to read the books anyway. Queen Rhaenyra had queen’s guards and so does dany but what about other people who formed their own guards comprised of knights. Edit: there was one of dany ancestor like viserys the second his wife who he met and married young in lys. Lady Larra Rogare, she had her own bodyguard was like Belwas.

It's because the xenophobic old man would only acknowledge them as part of her queensguard as if they were actual Knights like him. But then again it's like who wouldn't prefer Dothraki bloodriders over knights.

With all these videos I really really really should read the books, an exception is I'm reading The Hedge Knight (Dunk & Egg series) because I know the real story is there (unlike the tv series) but i'm hesitant because this series GOT is not finished, but I have started Dune and I'm really enjoying it so far and in my opinion it just proves the reality and TRUTH as in the real source material is the GOAT and makes everything better not adapted versions!! Also Harry Potter, Percy Jackson is in my list to.

Belwas is truly the only character of his type in the whole series of books. I mean, we DO get a Mormont madam out there somewhere, sent to find Howland Reed, if I recall correctly, and she's meant to be something of a She Bear who fights more like a stereotypical fantasy 'Barbarian' draped in her furs with her spiked cudgel, and her simple straightforward peasant manner and way of talking kind of parallels too... but she's MIA as of right now, and we got now closure on her in the Show either. There's characters which might at a cursory glance have these elements too, like Bron, or maybe Areo Hotah, and certainly the Hill Tribes might fit... but Bron is so much more, and in many ways so much less than Belwas, Hotah is mono-dimensional compared to Belwas, and the Hill Tribes do not really do much eventually, no? Some of the Dothraki are about and they too kind of fit, but they are also really just bit characters never truly fleshed out that much. Thus the really the only character of the kind that is Belwas, IS BELWAS. He CANNOT die too soon, if he dies in the next book anywhere close to the time we last see him, because he is weakened or some BS cop out like that, I'll be done with the series, even after being a fan since day jot, what, almost 25 years ago. Now, as for Garland Tyrell, I think it would be an absolute waste for that to be his arc. I noticed something in the stories of Westeros and the world of A Song Of Ice And Fire..... the BIGGEST changes made to Westeros, or even to Essos.... who knows about further East... often happen with a convergence of skills in specific special individuals. These individuals either succeed, or fail, and it has massive impact, and changes history and nature of society for long times to come. This is NOT always the case... but seems to be very much a thread one notices. That is that when powerful men are powerful in ALL the ways that matter... they change things. What do I mean? I mean men are powerful in three main ways in Westeros.... they are powerful through birth and wealth, title, and name and the charisma or will to wield it.... being powerful in knowledge and politics because of it, to defeat their enemies and feather their nests, ultimately seeking some absolute secure legacy.... OR... they are more long term wielders of power... they are great commanders, and Statesmen, they keep old arcana, remember prophecy and the esoteric lore of their world and us that usually militarily to command men, move armies, pressure for treaties, threaten for concession, and defeat anyone who would challenge their side.. even if they are not rulers of it, through winning the War, usually literal, even if they lose some battles, Machiavellian OR literal.......OR they are forces of nature in battle, literal battle, great Warriors, great Heroes, or Villains, the stuff of legends, named in Saga and Song, becoming invaluable to either aforementioned man, and through them, becoming extremely powerful. So, War Lords, Princes and Berserkers all find their way to power more than bean counters and bureaucratically minded, the Maester or the Merchant, the Pious and Philanthropic.... they rise... but only to the boots of the aforementioned.. it is the way of the World in this fictional universe. Yet, really, there are actually a great many of those men. Who are group one? Well, Varus, or Tyrion, or Baratheon the younger, and the middle type? Ned Stark? I think so. There's a couple of Hightowers who've been like that iirc, Old Mormont too maybe? Of course we then have group three... Jaime Lannister..... Brienne of Tarth.... Bron of.... well you wouldnt know him..... maybe Dario.... But there's a fourth group. Men who are all three of those things. They are RARE, but they always play a pivotal role, one way or another, through their success or failure. Men who are of the highest nobility, in spirit if not in title, at the least, the soundest education, even if atypical, wealthy because of this, connected by it, and aware enough of all that comes with the 'Game' to survive it..... but also men who are the ultimate Duc's, the ultimate Field Marshals, the schooled in geo-politics by this as much geography of battle grounds, men who speak, and induce submission to, their authority even if not recognised to have any, who think in terms of Wars nor battles, borders not fiefdoms, enemies to watch, not friends to make..... yet despite being both these, also men who can kill with a flick of the wrist, against supposedly better men, without flinching, break not a sweat, and can lead the charge in to the fires of battle, or the breach, and walk out again cleansed by the blood of their enemies. THESE fellas are RARE. Who do we have we might be able to make a case for being the fourth level of powerful man in Westeros? I think the case can be made for Oberyn Martell.... and despite what he seems like to his peers and kin, except Asha who seems to have the measure of his true abilities... Victarion Greyjoy is probably another... most people feel the power behind the Mace Tyrell that keeps him in power, is Randyll Tarly, who might also fit the bill.... and I think Stannis Baratheon, in his own cold weird way is such a man too, possibly, maybe, we could perhaps add Baristan himself to that poole... AND.. I SAY that Garland Tyrell is another of these... well.... not yet... but is aspiring to be one... one in the making. He is almost as good a fighter as Loras, we're told... but he does not joust as much, and when he does he prefers the team melee as it is more accurate a simulation of battle. He surrounds himself with his men, and drills them, more interested in arts of War, than arts martial, despite being a master martial artist, but he is ALSO a keen student of, and loyal subservient vassal brother to WILLAS... and Willas, being lame, of course, has developed much keener skills in other areas, I guess one might say more of a "Gamer' in the ASOIAF context, under whom Garland keenly studies. This conflagration of forming forces that shape men of power, working upon him, seem to be a recipe to make men like the last group. Not to say this will happen... but it does seem very important and deliberate such men exist in the world of the books. When they crop up, they all play massive impactful roles that shape events. Killing one off to replace him with another, just so Garland can slot in nicely somewhere, however, would be a hell of a waste.... almost seem like George R.R. Martin was doing Selmy so wrong, just like the show. Now Garland could not become such a man, and become just another Queensguard... OR.... he COULD become such a man... if he does NOT.... but if Selmy dont kick it, to make way for such placement... then I reckon Danny would be even more OP than Dragons, Selmy, Belwas and Tyrion make her. Because of that, I am hoping for some other interesting, but less critical... at first... these guys always play a major role eventually, remember.... for Garland. Though now I've said, he's probably going to die. :P :P

I think that to Barristan the Queensguard of Daenerys is not a proper Queensguard, Three of them were part of her khas and now her bloodriders, Strong Belwas is tecnically just a bodyguard , non of this four are knights and made the proper knightly oath, The only one other than Barristan that could be consider a Queensguard was Jorah who was breaking his oath while been a spy for the enemies of her Queen So to him he is the only True Queensguard of Daenerys

Strong Belwas is a really cool badass, character, but unfortunately 1. Black character who is submissive to a white character. 2. Talks in broken English. 3. Childlike personality. 4. Obsessed with fighting and food. Which was probably a lot more bagage than you can get away with on mainstream television which I guess is why he got cut in the show.
