Ustad Zahiruddin Dagar and Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, an intimate portrait of a musical family that has maintained the Dhrupad vocal tradition for 19 unbroken generations.
The most dedicated family to Bharatiya Dhrupad Tradition which keeps it alive in our hearts. Such dedication & presentation as well not available in any other family or place. Highest 🙏 respect to Dagar family.🕉🌷🕉👍🙏👍
Wonderful works! It's been 10 years since Dhrupad entered my life and this is the documentary I always wished to see. Words cannot express my gratitude for your having given your efforts to document this timeless tradition at that time. For now we have the opportunity to have a glimpse into the mystical world of sound that is Dhrupad and in particular, the Dagarvani lineage. Giving enormous thanks for your sharing in this beautiful film, it's a blessing to those who love Dhrupad and Dagarvani.
Such a wonderful documentary - but the women are almost criminally wasted, I felt so so so sad for them! With such depth of wisdom with sur, why did the earlier generations miss that sur is ungendered? Maybe if the 4 daughters learnt with the brother, Dhrupad would have lived more.
Thank you. True, but the fact that Mrs Dagar agreed to talk about it was already a huge step forward. Wasif has many women students whom he encourages wholeheartedly, and Qamar Dagar has become an outstanding calligrapher so change is taking place, naturally and without a need for confrontation, which resonates with their lives.
That is very very heartening to know :) I am, of course, aware of the wonderful contemporary Pelva Naik, and some more women artists in history. This is all wonderful, and evolution will take its natural course.
