Dahlia 101 - Watering 

After 3 years of growing Dahlias in a small scale, i decided to cover/mulch them with wood chips this year. I already put compost and long term fertilizer like hornmeal/horn shavings and phosphate/potash fertilizer. Before putting the woodchips I added hornshavings on top of the soil so the woodchips will have its nitrogen source. I presprouted 32 diff. new varieties and about 30-40 pcs. i dug out and divided around November last year. Been watering only per hand since that's the only option I have. I realized now that I've been watering them less this year, since I relied on the mulch. It has been raining here as well but if we can't really rely on rain, then need to deep water in the next days. Thank you for the reminders.

Thank so much for all of your lessons, I am looking forward to learn all about how to fertilize Dahlias, please make one soon. I been feeding mine with vermicompost brew, topping with vermiculture, feeding with fish emulsion and rose fertilizer . I have my little worm farm. This my first year growing dahlia and I have not seen results of my work yet, just keeping them alive during heat.

What if overwatering fromthe rain. if it rain for days what will happen to dahlia they are soaking in water. My dahlia are wilting in so much rain after 4 days of rain. Then next day it’s too hot and my dahlia got wilted.

When I have watered a lot and the heat is so intense they wilt. I''ve tried digging them up and moving them to other areas of my garden and not having much success. I'm in zone 9 Texas. I've had the hardest time growing dahlias and supposedly they are the easiest plants to grow based on other gardeners I've watched. I've tried putting them where they get more shade, moved them around. I just want to see flowers. I only see green growth but no flowers and they don't seem to look healthy. Is there a best place to plant these types of flowers. I hear full sun but then afternoon shade. My garden is full blast sun all day.

I thought that you shouldn't use a sprinkler for watering? It can break the blooms and cause Powder mildew. Is that incorrect?? Thank you

Can I show my Dahlia

Nothing to do with water, but I think I missed a couple pinching and they are blooming. Can I cut off the flower now to generate bushy growth or am I too late? The plant is almost 2’ tall including the blossom.
