Dahlia care mid season can be a challenge because life gets busy and it can be easily forgotten. Today Emma and I are showing you what we do, and look for, for continued armfuls of blooms every day. We are chatting about keeping the dahlia plants as heathy as we can to avoid the bug pressures of the late summer season, all well keeping as organic as we can. I'm using my comfrey tea and fish fertilizers on the dahlias after a long hot spell just to give them a little boost. Dahlias need lots of water but not soggy, fertilize every three weeks on a cool day, watch for bugs, clean the under story or leaves that touch the ground. Watch for bugs to detect a problem early to avoid loss.

Hi, Here is the answer to the question why Potassium is called K: Potassium is the chemical element with the symbol K (from Neo-Latin Kalium) and atomic number 19. Best, Albert from SF

Interesting...chuckled at the 200 dahlias comment of "not many". Honestly, I don't do anything to mine. I did try starting some indoors this year as the tubers were drying out and I figured they would not make spring planting. However, interestingly they went very leggy and once transplanted had to regrow a lot of the growth - they are blooming the same time as the ones I direct planted. Only gain was that I still have the tubers.

Dahlias are a funny crop, I totally have a love-hate relationship with them. 😄

Loved the video! A lot of work goes into growing your beautiful flowers. I loved the way you and Emma explained the fertilizing and pruning. I’ll be looking for the droopy dahlias in your bouquets. ❤ 😊

Learned a lot about caring for dahlias and spidermites. I also believe in fish emulsion and need to start growing comfrey. Love you and your videos wish I were your neighbor.

No rain since May! OMG! We just wouldn't know what to do in that situation here in NC. Thankfully, you do. You mentioned "the two farms". I've been a subscriber only for a few months, and love your channel; but I don't think I understand much about the layout of your farm(s) and gardens. I do know a couple months ago, you said something about a crew that comes in for something. Peonies, maybe? Is that the second farm? It would be great to know more about your overall layout and operation.

Yes, I agree! A video on the structure of your system would be awesome. I believe you lease land too, and do you have any other employees besides Riley and Emma? Also, does your husband work on the farm, or does he have another job? So many questions 😂😁- and I guess it seems a little nosey, but you are out here for us to see, right!?

So we farm at a few places and broker some crops like blueberry, peonies, blackberry, and hops. We have a crew at times that come in to harvest, and we have 4 folks that work with me. Up until this year, we farmed acreage down the road from us. This year, we brought it all back to the home farm. 🏡

We were extremely dry for the better part of the summer, just recently receiving some rain. I’ve noticed A LOT of bug damage on a lot of my plants in the garden, I’m thinking that because it was SO dry that the bugs were especially bad. Maybe they NEED the moisture the plants provide to survive. Just a crazy thought. 🌺💚🙃
@crowleyhouseflowerfarm
@crowleyhouseflowerfarm Год назад
I find that the same. If we are hot and dry, we have bug damage issues!

Do you have to make comfrey into a tea? Can you use it as a top dress in your gardens for the the following year? Or maybe work it into your soil? 🌺💚🙃
@crowleyhouseflowerfarm
@crowleyhouseflowerfarm Год назад
Yes, it works well like that. I'd probably let it dry and crush it, then scatter around?
