Brilliant post. Just the information I needed as my tubers suffered a bit last year and you have explained why. I did not lose any but they went on strike for about 3 weeks.😀

This is THE best dahlia video. I was just consulting it again as I plan my complicated spring season. I start mine in zone 7 US and take to zone 5 to my friend. Timeline video is so helpful. I don't like to wait til Aug/Sept for dahlias. Please look at Brit channel "Sausagefingers Gardeningtips" "Dahlia Leaf cuttings, using age old rare method of taking cuttings" - would love to hear your opinion on that. He cuts the cuttings in half. Your channel is just the best. Easy to find lots of plant sellers in US but not easy to find true growers with knowledge. I appreciate so much. Thank you.

Hi well thanks for the vote of confidence. Leaf cuttings are a standard propagation method for Begonias, Saintpaulia and some succulents, but Ive never heard of it being used for Dalias. But if it works, great! I hope 2024 is a great year for your Dahlias, and thanks again.

@@MoorfieldFarmFlowers Hahahahaha ! No I am not but a VERY addicted dahlia gardener I also really enjoy giving tubers to others that grow dahlias for nursing homes and acts of kindness I got the bug about 10 years ago from going to a state dahlia society show, it’s been insanely satisfying ever since I absolutely crave those gorgeous forms 🥰, so elegant

Hi Phife, thanks for your comment. Yes you are right the last frost date has moved significantly from the traditional 1st June here in Cheshire. Mid May is now more accurate, and we work to this. Good luck with your growing!

Nice information, what could be the reason for cuttings rot, they just don’t develop roots at all. Even if the rooting hormone gel applied
@MoorfieldFarmFlowers
@MoorfieldFarmFlowers Год назад
Hi Jay, thanks for your question. Cuttings can fail for all sorts of reasons, they need certain conditions to survive the first 2-3 weeks which is critical. Moisture - just enough Heat - 15-20C they will root slowly below this temp, if at all. Humidity - a plastic bag is the simplest method to prevent drying. Light - once they root and start to grow they will need plenty of light. This video taking you through it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t6aPto7e3rM.html I hope this helps and good luck with your growing.
