I just wanted to say, your videos are superb content. Excellent shots, clean editing, and clearly thoughtful and well designed educational and inspiring content. You make people want to pack a bike and see the world, myself included. Thanks to your video I bought my first folding bike, a zizzo liberte (refurbished) and am enjoying it thoroughly. I'm already contemplating a Brompton to match the same convenience of my electric scooter (the ability to put my scooter in the cart and shop without worrying about locking). If you have the chance, I think many would appreciate your take on a zizzo, as from my research they are making the highest quality bike+components for the price in the folding market.
The best bike to start touring is the one you already own. I’m sure your Liberte could bring you further than you can imagine. Perhaps we will have a chance to test-drive a Zizzo in the future.
I'm a tall, active guy who's been doing martial arts and cycling for over 20 years. I have a full size bicycle but there are times when a folding bike would be perfect! It always seemed like the only people I've seen on those were either shorter or rail thin. As someone 6'3", 220lbs, I thought when I got to a particularly steep uphill, a pedal might snap off; or if I hit a pothole the tensile forces would snap the seatpost or crack the frame. I was afraid to invest in one of these because it seemed like we bigger guys were just not on these companies' radar! Thanks, DaHon for thinking of us! Bromptons are rated to riders weighing 242lb, and I’m sure they are very conservative. You are well within the limits. With an extended seat post you’d have the perfect folding bike.
I was looking for a tall guy comment I’m the same height as u but weight is 198 I have a full size folding bike but I’m not a young guy and it’s getting heavier for me to lift when folded and I’m thinking of investing in a lighter weight folding bike but it’s hard because of my height I might look funny and be uncomfortable while riding

i bought 3-4 months ago this model and i am around 300lbs and some of rare tires spokes broken. 4 of the spokes broken. Yes maybe the frame is steong agree but Dahon has to bring with strong tier solution. Otherwise every 3 months i have to replace my tire spokes
It seems Dahon is expanding its use of the Deltec cable to more models. Actual implementation seems to vary based on geographic market and model year (The USA Mariner doesn’t seem to have it (yet?) while the EU Mariner has it). You may want to confirm before buying online.
I'm currently considering a Dahon. I can't decide between the HIT and the Mariner D8. I know the Mariner has the advantage of more gears, but is there a significant difference in quality and performance otherwise?
Having the choice, and if budget permits, we would select the Mariner. Beside the gearing (300% vs 200% gear range), the model we evaluated had better tires and components (gear shifter, derailleur, saddle grip, pedals) and was equipped with a rear rack and fenders (which the HIT didn’t have). The Mariner would likely have a better resale value as well. The HIT retains an advantage on maximum rider weight however (137Kg vs 105Kg). Availability could be an issue (are you in North America?)
@@2Bikes4Adventure Thanks for the quick reply. I am in the UK. The HIT is currently £500, whereas the Mariner is £650. So not a lot in it. I only weigh around 80kg, so max weight capacity isn't an issue.
Hello, I will be buying a Dahon Boardwalk S1 (I like how simply and minimalist this model is, and the used price point around $100). I would like to know if is it normal having to set the seat too hight? I love the practicality of this bikes but I don't like the "circus" look when the seat and handlebar are so high. I haven't try my self a bike like this yet, but I'm wonder if can this type of bike be ride as a beach cruise style without having the seat so high? Thanks.
Btw please forgive me to use four river bike Korean route as example 😅, in your opinion do you think Dohan HIT suitable for Four River Route (while the gear ratio is narrow)?
Brompton (177% range), so quite similar to the range offered by the HIT 6-speed (200%). The HIT first gear is slightly lower than the Brompton, so it will have a small advantage while climbing. Note you may have to add a rear rack and/or front carrier block to carry your luggage.
@@2Bikes4Adventure BTW, I just check US’s page of Dahon, notice that they have adopted same “secret” (a cable of triangular shape) of HIT to new version of Dream D6, Vybe D7, Launch D8, K1 (ebike), they also written on the spec that those bike can support 137kg rider too.

Thanks for all your great videos! I know this is not a Brompton video but I would like to ask you if you know of any difference between Brompton steel and titanium forks? It’s hard to get an accurate measurement but I suspect that the titanium fork has less trail than the steel . The titanium bike is a lot less stable , especially on high speed down hill corners while pedaling . The steel bike I can pedal down the same hills in 6th ( around 103 gear inches w/ 58 t chainring ) with no problems . I think I can see that the steel fork has more trail but I’m not sure. You clearly have have great knowledge of Brompton technicalities and I would greatly value any data you might know of or your opinion. Thanks !
Hi Gary, the Brompton trail is quite small already, reducing it on the titanium version would indeed make it quite twitchy. We do not have the titanium fork offset information on-hand, but maybe a video on Brompton stability would be an interesting subject (we could add info on the titanium option). Stay tuned.
2Bikes4Adventure Yes . The real world solution has been to simply not pedal on steep downhills. Also as of yesterday Oct.17 steel Brompton has also become a single speed ( 58x12). Problem not solved but circumvented !
Hi Edwin, the Dahon Curl was strongly inspired by Brompton’s design (in fact, Brompton was considering suing Dahon about it). Not sure about availability however.

Hi Edwin, numerous clones are available (mostly in Asia). We never had the chance to test drive one (we would certainly be interested). Some subscribers seem to be pleased with their purchase.
@@2Bikes4Adventure Brompton did file for an injunction to prevent the Dahon Curl being sold in the EU right after the August 2017 Eurobike. At the court hearing in September 2017, the EU court threw the case out and ordered Brompton to pay Dahon's legal expenses. This was all document on several bike business websites at the time.
@@edwingutierrezmusic The Curl has the same wheel size and wheelbase. Its rider ergonomics are far more adjustable. The Curl folds smaller. The Curl has a much higher load capacity.
