Daikin Fit vs Amana S vs Goodman SD. SAME UNIT??? My thoughts on the system(s?)

I give my spiel on my thoughts after going to a training on the Goodman SD unit. I did some research and can say with 100% certainty that there is no difference between the three brands besides the brand name on them. We are unlikely to be installing this system anytime soon but you never know. I think this system may work well for some parts of the country but I do not really see it being worth the hassle of installing where we are located. Let me know what you guys think.

Forgot to mention that another big kicker for me is that this unit doesn't qualify for federal tax credits in the south at any tonnage if I'm not mistaken. Lots of other systems out there that do. Kind of a big deal for me. Interested to hear other's thoughts and experiences with the system

I haven't heard anything bad about the Amana S Side Discharge.

Most manufacturers are going with proprietary parts, scratching off the part numbers on pcb parts so that they can’t be easily repaired. I’m not selling any communicating mini or standard hp systems unless it’s my only option for the installation. I.e. sunroom, garage, bonus room over the garage, workshop, etc.

I was dealing with an Amana rep and he was raving how so many were installed on houses that were within the metro area. They said the unit met the standards for noise and slim factor. I never dealt or seen one other than online. Inverter tech is not new but the prices are now competitive

Yeah I think there are a few big companies jumping on these due to their price and then still gouging their customers but that's just a theory. It seems like the companies that push them in RU-vid videos only talk about this system. The trainer basically said everything he could to get us to not buy the unit

@@SurfBrosHVAC the fact that you have to use their own proprietary thermostat seems like a turn off for me. I guess most communication systems are like nowadays

On change-ous, we primarily install the Daikin Fit Enhanced or the majority of the Amana S-Series. Haven't sold a Goodman because the Amana is the same cost. The Enhanced quantifies for the the CCHP rebates. Otherwise, we also sell Bosch IDS 2.0/2.1 systems and they are great too, but the side discharge units are great for size and installs in Colorado. Also, we do pretty much 100% NG furnaces that match the system for the AHRI, if possible. We do not sell AHU's with heat kits.

No issues to date on the Fit installs?
@Balticblue93
@Balticblue93 Месяц назад
@@SurfBrosHVAC Thankfully no, we haven’t had any real issues. The Amana units are the same install design. They work well. Sure, the Bosch is a quicker install, but I have several extra steps since we install / replace the furnaces. Checking and setting gas pressures for altitude and combustion analysis. But the Fit or S-series goes in fairly close to any other systems. It’s a pretty intelligent setup. And they can be on a bracket and they are quiet. At first, you are worried if it will work, but they exceed my expectations. But the Bosch 20 SEER2 qualifies for CCHP rebates, so we offer a half dozen options.

From what I was told the Daikin and Amana units are the same updated equipment that qualifies for the cold climate label and the federal Heat Pump Tax Credit. The Goodman unit does not qualify for that federal Tax Credit. Additionally the Goodman unit has a different Bluetooth controller/thermostat and does not have the contractor / customer Daikin One or the Amana S series equivalent app or website for seeing system data and energy usage reports. The Daikin and Amana thermostats are the same touch screen thermostat; however, the Daikin One does have two touch screen options, one with and without a dial. FYI here is the fax form needed for the tax credit: Air Source Heat Pumps Tax Credit - IRS Form 5695.

I work for a distributor owned by Daikin… you are correct about the tax credits being Amana and Daikin meet the criteria. Goodman does have a simple wall thermostat but it has Bluetooth so the dealer can sync up to it and set up system perimeters. It also costs the dealer way less because it’s not a fancy touch screen. There are a lot of inverter products and most of them are just staged out compressors. These units (when matched correctly) are fully inverter from 30% to 130% which allows for better dehumidification and performance. I’m a big fan of the channel you guys do great work👍

Would you say there is a benefit between the Daikin, Amana, or Goodman system? Or are they essentially the same product? Someone commented and said they do have the 120V air handler which goes against what I was told in the training but it would reignite my interest if it can be paired with something 120V. Also the price point, at least for the Goodman, is very good for a communicating system.
@Khn83
@Khn83 2 месяца назад
@@SurfBrosHVAC as far as cooling only units go they are all the same. Daikin and Amana make enhanced heat pumps that will work in colder climates that Goodman doesn’t offer. Also you can use the Daikin ONE thermostat on the Goodman if you want to have the touch screen thermostat. From what I understand they just came out with a 115V air handler that has variable speed drive and EEV coil specifically made to match with our side discharge units. PS that trainer was trash. There is a little learning curve to installing these units but from the work I’ve seen you do this would be no problem for you guys. Our industry is quickly becoming more and more home owner DIY friendly thanks to companies like Mr. Cool. These Goodman, Amana and Daikin side discharge units have enough installation nuance that you won’t see homeowner Joe blow attempting to install themselves. Give it a try sometime I think you might be surprised by how much you and your customers will like them.

I like the Midea units. That covers Carrier as well as most of the DIY units: Pioneer, Senville, etc. Midea is the largest manufacturer of minisplits, and honestly, many of the other brands share their parts. The only thing you get with something like a Mitsu or Daikin is slightly better support, not really better quality. I'd argue the Korean brands (Samsung, LG) are actually worse than the Japan/China brands. One nice thing about Midea is their parts are everywhere, and you can usually mix and match labels, since they are largely just rebadges.

we just started offering these goodman side discharge inverters with 115v air handlers. which is what was appealing to us. we havent sold any yet but we just added them. what didnt you like about them that was fussy? only thing i seen was they are particular about where how the wiring connections were made. Our price are about $500 less across the board then yours.

The trainer at the install class was basically trying to talk us out of installing them so I think we were affected by that. I knew several other people from other companies in the class and we all seemed to get the same vibe from the trainer. There were a lot of little things about installing it that seemed weird. I think there were three apps we needed to have for different reasons to install the system. One for setting up the thermostat, one for updating the furnace if necessary, and one for something else I'm not remembering. There were a couple troubleshooting tools that they wanted us to get if we'd be installing the equipment. The trainer made it sound like he has gotten way too many calls from installers at 8 pm about these systems. He told us he goes to the bar on Friday and will still answer the phone but he'll be drunk so not as helpful. I was interested in the system before the class but after seeing his attitude toward it I'm now not. I'm always willing to change my mind though

What are the conditions that qualify for a Unit Replacement Warranty?
@SurfBrosHVAC
@SurfBrosHVAC 2 месяца назад
I'm gonna be honest I have no idea. I have heard from some people it's harder to get the unit replacement than it used to be. I think it's something along the lines of it parts become obsolete and cannot be supplied in a reasonable timeframe then they'll supply a replacement unit. This obviously wouldn't cover the installation of the unit and it only applies to the original purchaser of the equipment so if the home changes hands no dice. If you're gonna own the home for life then maybe not a bad idea.

@@SurfBrosHVAC No, I haven't seen them in the wild. They're a pretty new brand in our market. They're a new emerging company. My friend's company where he works installs them. Yeah, they're basically Johnstone's lowest priced equipment. So unfortunately the low price brings out the hacks. I installed one of their inverter heat pump mini splits in my garage recently and like it. Our Innovair Rep. Mike is a cool guy.
