One of the things I play for a warm up is Groove is in the Heart. Gets the old fingers ready to go and gets me in that funk state of mind too. :D

I gave up bass many many years ago but I recently got back into playing. I feel like I’m starting all over again literally. What a way to start though. Back to the basics but Julia’s videos like this one and others are helping me tremendously.

Not many people would think of playing D flat scale as a warm up, but it is important to play in the flat keys and not just play follow the dots. Thanks for a very inpiring video, as are all your videos.

Playing broken thirds like you did at 5:42 is a part of my typical warm up as well. I usually start my warm up by playing major and minor arpeggios starting on C major (3rd fret of A string) and working up the fret board chromatically to the 12th fret. Then, run through a major and minor in broken thirds in all keys.

Great insight, thank you Julia! I am not a bass player but my warm up "gymnastics" without instrument are pretty much the same. I just add some strechings for thumbs, hands, arms, shoulders and neck before playing scales and after the scales before practising music. I can strongly recommend that to everybody who has muscle-tension issues....

Nice. I’ll usually add modal practice as well and work on the intervals inside of the modes. I try to switch up the fingers used a bit on my left and right hand conscientiously as well, exercising that fine motor control. Thanks.

Returning to music and wanted to try something new so bought a bass. Every time I see one of your videos I take something away from it. You and your style are so centered that I’m able to take it all in without any anxiety or confusion. I’ve learned more about muting from watching you play than from videos actually dedicated to muting. Thank you!

Okay that answered the question of how I and so many of my friends got in trouble over the years. Don’t swirl drinks in a glass and change the weight by drinking what is in the glass.......as warm up. My second and third base are both older than you my first died when I dropped it down a flight of stairs. Its last notes light me on fire and let me go out like a Jimmy Hendrix guitar. It is simply a pleasure to see how much you enjoy playing. My passion is now working of sounds for video games.......
