Hmm... Wouldn't it be more efficient to make two vertices, add a skin modifier, model a curve along the model and use a curve and array modifiers? With that method you retain the possibility to edit your stich pattern and it's density.
@pstuddy
@pstuddy 4 года назад
and even more efficient, paint them in with a custom normal map texture, no verts needed which means super duper extra optimized!
@NeilOttoTep
@NeilOttoTep 4 года назад
@@pstuddy also much simpler. Good point.

if you can make the curve handles project to the surface like the vertices in the video, im on board

If you've uv-unwrapped the object, that's a good way to do it as well.

I cant get it to work in Blender 2.91. So what I did instead was to copy the edge where to stitches should be, then use the checker select and delete som vertices between. Then convert to curve, and do the curve magic.

this is what i was looking for my project, thanks so much, i just picked an edges duplicate and separate them, sub and skin, this is prefect

So I've done quite a number of stitches for bags, clothes etc, I've always found creating one U curve for the stitch shape, then dulpi & separate an edge, convert to curve and array the stitch shape along that curve. I feel that's a more efficient way to do it. This process I've found very conducive to creating multiple stitches within the model

I'm having 2 problems. 1 when I try to do a like slanted version of this, this stitches look nice in one spot then they go crazy in the rest of it. And then the back side of the stitches goes through to the other side, is there a way to fix that?

How could you find the single vert in mesh menu? I don't find it on my blender 2.82a

Would it be possible to do something similar for creating rivets? I create a lot of mechanical models that have rivets and it is a royal pain to create and then place hundreds or even thousands of them on a model. Any ideas?
@wallegamecube

he should make a video showing how to use an array of rivets along a curve

If it's hundreds or thousands, I would do it with a procedural shader. You can download a free one, check this out: twitter.com/100drips/status/1254419828523380736

@@BlenderSecrets Thanks for the link, so question if I may. Can a path be placed on the surface of a model and then used like you showed in the linked video? For example I have a turret that has a line of rivets that goes from the bottom of the front of the turret, up the front face, across the top and then down the back. Is it possible to set a path so it follows those contours so I can create the rivets in one go or would I need to do this independant on each face? FYI, you should create a way for those of us that want to give you money a way to do so. Beyond purchasing your book I could not find a way to buy you a beer or cup of coffee. I would get the books but I learn better from video and never buy books but will if thats the only way you offer a way to thank you with cash...;)

You'll need to enable the Extra Objects add-on in Preferences. Or you can just merge any object to center in Edit Mode (press M in Edit Mode, choose Center).
