It's good to check that the belt isn't walking off the tensioner, also for a noisy idler pulley.

Thank you, and I guess that is a common thing with BMW about the oil and antifreeze, because I have a 2011 X5 50i and is the same as well
@BMWFanatic

Rick Smooth yep! Very common to have some kind of a oil/coolant leak on a BMW (if not kept up on maintenance). Anything can happen though even with being maintained, so that's why I do a double check just like this 😀

Rick Smooth btw, did you get your car in for the customer care package service bulletin? It applies to the N63 motors

I'm curious what type of tires do you run on your car?
@BMWFanatic
@BMWFanatic 7 лет назад
FatBananas Pirelli PZero Nero - 235/40/18 front and 255/35/18 for the rear. I put on new rear tires each year to keep them that a perfect tread depth (fronts I get 2 years). If it's suppose to snow a lot, then I take my SUV out for that day or so.

Wow every year? I'm torn between getting the Michelin Pilot Supersports, or the new Pilot Sport 4S when they're available next year. I daily drive my Mazda 6 so I'll sacrifice on comfort a bit if I can get a higher performance tire.
@BMWFanatic
@BMWFanatic 7 лет назад
FatBananas yep! I sell my used ones though on eBay and get back almost half of the price. I apply that money to new ones and so on and so on. Pilot super sports are hands down probably the best summer tire. They wear way too fast for my driving or I would run those!
@BMWFanatic
@BMWFanatic 7 лет назад
FatBananas I haven't looked much into the 4S ones, but I'm sure they perfected them when compared to the older ones
@Fat-bananas
@Fat-bananas 7 лет назад
It's a bit vague with the 4S.. Michelin touts them as the replacement to their max performance (but phasing out) Supersports, yet apparently there will be a next-gen PSS tire somewhere in the timeline. But if they can live up to the promise of 30,000+ mile tire life with better performance than PSS? Hah I'm sold!

Have you ever test driven a 335i sport model or M sport? Just wondering how different they are to the non-sport model like what you have.
@BMWFanatic
@BMWFanatic 7 лет назад
Jake Lazore mine is the sport model(hence the 162 BMW wheels) and handles/looks much better than the base model. Msport will be a little bit stiffer, but nothing too crazy in comparison.

Hi,my name is Tevin and I recently got a 335i with 71k miles and i have not even driven it over 1000 miles and I've found that the coolant level was super low and the oil is profusley leaking from the filter.Are these common problems with BMW's?
@BMWFanatic
@BMWFanatic 7 лет назад
Tevin Nyapola yes, they are normal with mileage. Pull the underneath belly pan off and start looking for your coolant leak. There is a gasket on the oil filter housing that is prone to leaking with age. The gaskets just get brittle with age. I've done both of those things DIY and you should too. Saves a lot of labor. The coolant could be either a busted hose or a crack in the water pump

I actually DIY'D it yesterday all I did was replace the oil filter because of lack of day light and temp i was unable to actually change the oil as well but I'm probably going to do that today. But I realized there was a tone of oil all over the front face of my engine and belts and there is a squeaky sound coming from what i would say my belts.What do you think I should do to get rid of that noice?
@BMWFanatic
@BMWFanatic 7 лет назад
Tevin Nyapola is the oIl filter housing or oil cooler housing gasket leaking though? When they do, oil will run the the front of the engine. Also, there is a coolant path that flows through the oil filter housing part which will leak out the same path as the oil. It could mix too, which would be bad. I would get all of that oil off that belt asap. You'll need to watch it too. You will not want that belt to slip off and cause more damage.

from what i saw i'd say the oil filter gasket was leaking till I got a new filter and replaced the gaskets.I don't think there is anything else leaking at the moment but its hard to tell considering there is still oil residue on the front face.Should I just wash of the oil from my belts with regular water and maybe a degreaser or is there a specific method you'd recommend?
@BMWFanatic
@BMWFanatic 7 лет назад
Tevin Nyapola carb cleaner works wonders! Then use a brush and scrub that residue off, then rinse

20,000 miles a year? is that more than 100 miles daily round trips?
@BMWFanatic

kevin p nope, not every single day. I drive to a bunch of other different sites throughout the day and then do the same on the weekends. It fluctuates though to where it ends up, but my tax mileage records hover around 21-22k ish
