We lucky to have such footage of the past better than amateur even though some footage probably got damaged from sitting and they had to splice it together make it work I'm not complaining I appreciate it
@@InsertHandleHere-mov Believe me if you are making the same salary as today in that time, you don't have to worry about how much anything costs. Newspapers were 10 cents, subway trains and buses were 15 cents, and a good meal at a hotel restaurant for 20 dollars or less.
I seem to recall the narrator, Kevin Kennedy, was world and national news anchor for WPIX Channel 11 in New York through the 1950's and into the first half of the '60's.
Yes the news ran from 7 to 7:30. Kevin Kennedy had world and national news from 7 to 7:10 John Tillman had local New York City news, with commercials for Con Edison, from 7:10 to 7:25. And he was followed by Gloria Okon who did the weather. I was six years old at the time and Gloria became my first crush She also did commercials for Arnold bakeries. " butter and eggs and loving care make Arnold taste beyond compare"
I think it was an elevated line actually with stops at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island along the way before it reached battery Park yeah the Staten Island to Manhattan local train cost three times as much as the Staten Island ferry however.
I grew up in NYC left in '86 for the military came back in 2020 and had to watch a YT video on how to buy and use the MetroCard...I messed up a couple times haha 🤣
