Fr, the main point is find out ur hair type and only wash ur hair when necessary. Then slowly transition off shampoo if u feel necessary but jus stoppin shampoo only for 2 weeks is useless. And I hope nobody starts putting baking soda in their hair. 😅
it really depends on you hair type though?? like if you have curly or coily hair you probably won’t have to wash it as much as someone with straight or wavy hair
@-Crashing_waves- same with my wavy/curly hair, i feel like mine barely produces oil full stop. I wash it once a week and that's only because of routine my hair still feels dry and frizzy by then
even wavy hair you can get away with it like very well. my family says my hair has never looked better and it smells perfectly fine, my scalp is also a lot healthier than before and its only been like a little over a 10 days
the reason it gets greasy is, that the grease builds up, you should rather just ween off of shampoo instead of just removing it. i went from shampooing everyday, to every other day, then every three days until 5 days, then i had no more grease.
Washing your hair more often does not produce more grease this is a myth created by hair influencers and is debunked by dermatologist’s all over it is most likely your shampoo which is not correct for your scalp.
Your body will naturally produce oils to lubricate your hair. If you shampoo every day your scalp will constantly pump out oils to keep your hair hydrated and healthy, and so you’ll have to wash it again before tomorrow to keep it from being greasy. There’s a balance to be struck, you want to shampoo because the soap will clear debris like dandruff and loose hair, but not so much that your scalp kicks into overdrive trying to bring back the oils that were lost.
I did this and it changed my hair for the better. It takes a very long time get your hair oils to balance out and dealt with alot of greasy hair and dandruff for maybe over a year. Now I wash my hair once a week but I can go two and I have extremely long beautiful hair. It's not for the faint hearted but extending your washing does do wonders!
All these things can be happening for a plethora of reasons… # 1. it takes one to two months for your sebum levels to adjust to not using shampoo, because now your hair is over producing sebum trying to counteract the shampoo by over moisturizing the scalp. #2. When your first trying this it’s recommended that you take colder showers because the lack of shampooing along with the heat from the water can trigger your hair to not only over-produce more sebum but to actually create dandruff. #3. It’s expected that a few hair follicles will fall out that’s completely natural, as your body is adjusting to the changes of your scalp excess sebum can block the growth process for hair, but once you get over that 1-2 month marker it should start decreasing the amount produced. Shampoo came out little over 100 years ago! As far back as human history dates to that we can recollect is roughly 5,000 years ago… you think people were using shampoo then? The truth is eating healthy portions along with healthy foods, getting a good sleep cycle, and some genetics plays a factor in hair health. But I don’t think no shampooing should influence the health of your hair
I've got really fine hair and it's absolutely unmanageable without product for at least 3 days if I strip all of the oils. I wash once a week, never more and I only use 2-6 drops of shampoo (depending upon my hair length) in an 8oz cup - pour it over, give it a tussle and rinse immediately. Never any issues.
@@abdulmajedkurdi5691 You're not using enough shampoo, or you're not lathering thoroughly. I've been washing and rinsing my hair for 5 years, and it's never been healthier.
Washing hair really depends on what race you are and the hair type you have. Me being African American our hair is more on the dry side so we use more oils and product but only wash once a week or once every two weeks depending on exercise, etc.
@@lemon_w0ter196 I use a 1:3 ratio but if you need it stronger you can use 1:1. So I do one cup distilled vinegar to 3 cups of warm water. I use a lot because I have very long hair and I like to let the mixture slowly flow through the length of my hair. Just be sure to really tilt your head back you definitely don’t want it to get in your eyes. And make sure you rinse it out after. I also follow up with conditioner for a very soft finish. Hope that helps.
I like the experiment, one note though, as someone with type 4c (commonly known as Afro hair) our hair doesn’t need washing every 2-3 days, and the reason why is because of the curl pattern, it makes it more difficult for our natural oils to travel down the hair strand already, so we don’t need much washing. On the contrary, to have our hair lubricated efficiently to promote health and proper hair growth we usually use conditioners with oil or lotion (depending on the porosity) to better moisturise the hair. Now when it comes to events where you get dirty, like the gym for example we wash afterwards (at least I do!) this page may be centered towards 3a hair and up perhaps?
Afro hair is dry and needs conditioners and oils westerner hair can't handle not being shampooed everyday watch the video and read ya comment m8 it's been 5 months I doubt ya remember the topic lol
@@3mar00ss6 Wym? I’ve never stated Afro hair is dry, I stated our natural oils that we produce has a harder time travelling down the hair follicles because of the curl pattern, in what way is a different procedure of hair care equates to dryness, or difficulty? The fact you’re Arab, meaning you’re a fellow person of colour it’s sad that you want to participate in a superiority complex of genetics, just yikes.
Coming from a puerto rican family, for some time living there i didnt use anything to wash my hair while living on a farm beaides the water and it was the best state it had ever been in. Close to shoulder length and extremely curly.
My hair started thinning like crazy and I’m only 19 years old and no hair products were doing anything for me, and I saw a thing where this guy had the same problem and quit using shampoos all together as an experiment and he’s on 4 years now and it’s worked tremendously, so I started it too cuz why not. At first my hair got oily, my head was itchy and I had dandruff, but I kept pushing through. And I’m about 3 months in and it’s actually working. My hair looks healthier, I have no more dandruff and my scalp isn’t itchy. I’m just gonna keep doing this and hopefully my hair will thicken out more, but only time will tell
It completely depends on hair type. If you have naturally dry puffy hair then shampoo can make it overly dry and prone to breaking na falling out. I stopped using shampoo and only use hot water now and my hair problems are now over. If someone with flat moisture retentive hair did this however it would probably spell a nightmare.
My type of hair I can usually go without using shampoo but I like how it leaves my hair smelling nice and I work where my hair gets really dirty so sometimes I need to use shampoo but like a lot of people think they need to use shampoo everyday and that's not something that needs to be done unless you have extremely greasy hair cuz a lot of the grease you're feeling is natural and good for your hair and by washing your hair everyday you're just washing those natural oils out
I have met ppl who have really curly hair and can't wash it every 3 days bc it takes too much time. I really think that how often someone washes their hair depends on the hair type
As someone who stopped using soap on my hair a year ago i found using honey as soap letting it soak in and then washing hair every couple days helps but it takes a good period of time for your hair to produce the natural oils and regain its health
I am a guy with long hair. I only shampoo my hair once a week or if I need to clean foreign contamination from my hair (i.e., mud, oil, or, in one instance, beer). The rest of the time, I only conditioned my hair. That removes the sweat, dandruff, and smell without stripping the natural oils that protect our hair
I've started using a beef tallow soap bar that has beef tallow, coconut oil, and essential scents and it feels so nice and my head isn't as itchy. I would very much recommend checking it out.
Yeah, i can say that while i have washed my hair with water, i haven't shampood in about a month. i don't use products as i have long hair, and my hair feels like silk now. It's also stronger, and I've noticed i have fewer hair strands falling out all the time. It's also GOING to be bad for a little bit, but soon you'll notice becuae you havent been stripping your hair oils with shampoo, your hair will stop over producing oil because it learns that the oils arent being stripped from it anymore. So your hair will stop being greasy, at least as long as you dont use products
I went months washing my hair with only hot water years ago - it worked ok. I have fine hair and if I strip all of the oil off of it it's absolutely unmanageable without product for at least 3 days. So, I ended up splitting the difference - I use a cup, fill it half way with water and put in about 2-to-6 drops of shampoo depending upon where I am in my 4 times a year haircut rotation. Mix it up with a couple of fingers, top off the cup and pour it over my head while working it in for probably 5 seconds and rinsing immediately. Works like a charm, once a week, no issues ever.
White vinegar helps remove grease and the wax buildup in your hair from certain regularly used shampoos. I do a white vinegar rinse about once a month and it keeps my hair fluffy and I shower everyday but only wash my hair every three.
i have severe mdd. it’s hard to care about… anything. literally anything at all. and i’ve noticed that nothing happens to my hair. my hair is down to my butt. it’s so used to not being washed at this point it doesn’t get greasy. it just gets the dirty hair smell. so i use conditioner for that. i haven’t washed my hair in two months at least. i have a bf and he just lets me know when it starts to smell a little. the last time i washed it (it had been a month prior to that that i didn’t wash it) my scalp itched so bad. never did that again. for anyone looking for tips, salt water it really good for your scalp. just a bunch of table salt and hot water in a cup. it’s a micro exfoliant. a lot easier than washing it if you’re depressed and have too much hair to deal with. yes i’ve thought about cutting it. it’s my greatest feature and i already feel ugly enough lol. the hair stays!
Only wash my hair every 2-3 weeks, but I condition every time I rinse it out and I don’t have dandruff, greasy hair or itchy scalp. Shampoo used to dry my hair out really badly which is why I stopped using it. Everyone’s unique tho, so figure out what works best for you.
One way to speed up the process is to wash your hands with soap/shampoo, rinse off, then rigorously run your hands through your hair, a lot of excess oil will come off on your oil-less hands and the you wash and rinse your hands again Gets the excess oil out of your hair while you adjust to no shampoo while leaving enough in your hair that your body won’t want to overproduce like when you striped the oils out
Haven’t put a drop of shampoo in my hair in months and I’ve only used a very tiny amount of soap every few weeks. My hair is doing great. My hair stopped falling out, and my skin stopped flaking so bad. My hair also feels really healthy and looks really good. Just use water.
i have extremely thick and wavy hair . It is dry by default and i can go 2 weeks with no shampoo and it doesn’t look greasy. I would say it actually looks healthier 3-5 days after washing . It’s pretty dry right after a wash and takes a while to re hydrate .
I struggled with major dandruff ever since I was a child. It wasn't until I got down to only shampooing every *2 months* that my dandruff cleared. I condition about 1-2 times a week, and use a soft silicone scalp massager whenever I'm in the shower. I also use a micro-needle device on my scalp. This schedule is the result of a 2 year long process of trying to figure out how to get rid of a dandruff problem that's been embarrassing me my whole life. I used to be so paranoid about flakes on my shirt, and wouldnt let anyone touch my head. I'd stop my girlfriends from playing with my hair. It was a major problem.
i have a wavy hair not curly or coily its like straight/wavish when i didn't shampoo or conditioner cause i was so lazy it was on covid my hair was amazingly beautiful 😂😂 cause of my laziness but now because of school my hair is now dry frizzy cause i use shampoo everyday BELIEVE ME BEFOR YOU DO THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DID AND YES IM NOW DOING THE NO SHAMPOO TO GET MY HAIR BACK
this is for the peeps wit da curls or coils, if you got considerably curly hair i consider you not using shampoo as much when you shower and only use it every other shower, but his hair is more wavy so makes sense why its not really working out
Baking soda actually is really good. Mix it with water and use it as shampoo once every two weeks. I do this as well as using shampoo as normal bc it strips all the oil out as well.
the way i fast tracked my hair to balance on no poo was the first time a took a cold shower where i really massaged my scalp deeply and it tok almost 30 minutes by itself, then from the on smallrer few minute session just water is enough to clean it.
I rinse with water, every 2-3 days, I have hair like yours. Other days you want to keep it dry. If you rinse too much especially with hot water it strips the oils as well.
Hairs not falling out at an increased rate. Youre jusy noticing more hairs because they normally come put gradually with every wash. The oils are holding them in place so youre able to "pull" them out
It works but you gotta use a dot or two of shampoo every 5 days bc it builds up grease, make sure to go hot water to open up pores then do cold water to close them and it tightens the skin and it’s good for your hair follicles. If you only shower with hot water it’s going to get greasy fast. Also make sure to clean well and maintain. No shampoo is great but make sure to keep good body hygiene and use natural soap, I use coconut butter/peppermint body soap and I use conditioners sometimes as well but maybe once or twice a month. Also exfoliating your skin and the sides of your head regularly if you have shorter hair is a good thing to do. I work construction and I have seborrhaic dermatitis and those two things combined used to really mess up my scalp and my hair and my nose too and I’d use a ton of salysilic acid based shampoos and head and shoulders and I had really thin and dry hair and my scalp would sting and bleed a lot around my hairline. I started doing this a few months ago and my hairs never been better. Just make sure to be hygienic and moderate about it, because maybe you won’t smell it, but if you don’t clean and take good care of hygiene others 100% will notice.
I had greasy, itchy hair with shampoo, i recently stopped using it and now i have slightly greasy non itchy hair and way less dandruff. I guess it just works differently depending on skin and hair type.
i haven’t used shampoo or conditioner in 3 months, just water, and my hair is fine, no real difference. However I also shaved my head before trying, so maybe if i tried it with my longer hair it would have taken longer to adjust. But rn my hair is fairly long again and I still don’t have any issues when i don’t use shampoo.
Agreed. Haven’t used shampoo in years. That being said I have naturally thin hair and shampoo makes it worse. I also have soft water which helps. If you have hard water, things will get bad quickly.
You did it wrong gang. I haven’t used shampoo in about a year and I get no dandruff my hair isn’t dry and it just looks significantly better than it did a year ago. Wash pretty thoroughly with water and use a conditioner. It’s called cowashing, doesn’t strip the natural coating your hair has and people saying it’s redundant are just wrong. You can change your hair texture so easily with products and/or a blowdryer so I can always do what I want with my hair, grew up with straight hair and now it curls and isn’t frizzy at all. Sometimes I use no products in my hair and it’s fine as well still no dandruff frizziness etc.
over 24 months of shampooing once a week or once every 10 days, my hair hasn’t been healthier, more defined, and longer in my life. deadass grew 15+ inches of thick curly hair in 2 years
I do a table spoon of baking soda in a glass of water type rinse. Rub it around and then rinse lean. Then i use a mix of 2 cups water 1 tble spoon apple cider vinager with essential oils all over scalp and hair leave on 5 mins with alooe ran on scalp and hair with the vinager mix then rinse out
What I've learned from doing this is that you have to slowly let your hair get used to no shampoo, I only shampoo twice a week and my hair is a little greasy but for my hair type being curly it helps a lot not needing any sort product
Used to do it, it did work for me, but I suggest to make sure your showers Arent too hot compared to the temperature of your skin, when its too hot it felt like it was drying out my skin instead of adding water to it.
When I used head and shoulders I had tons of flaking at the end of the day and couldn't go a day without my hair also being greasy. Switched to a better shampoo and ended up shampooing every other day. A lot better and now I have almost no dandruff and my hair isn't excessively oily. Same with scrubbing your face. Do it too much and your body tries to compensate with more oil production.
Use sea salt spray after you get out of the shower. Just get a spray bottle of it and spray it all over your hair and go pretty heavy. I don’t use shampoo, I have a hairstyle very similar to yours, and every time I let it fully dry it’s not greasy, thick healthy hair that has lots of natural texture
Wash it with diluted apple cider vinegar. I usually add some lavender or rosemary. Let it sit in acv for a couple days. Get some of the acv and add some vater and wash your hair with it. You are welcome
I wash my hair like either 2 to 3 maybe 4 times a week depends how greasy your hair starts to get and what you do after a camp fire i have to shower i cant sleep smelling like smoke if im all sweaty and nasty imma shower too. now you can rinse off and not use shampoo but i mean every other day is what id recommend maybe the occasional every 3 days maybe 4 sometimes to help keep hair alive. my hair is so much softer i have super thin hair and it gets frizzy if i wash it every day for long periods of time. i can wash it every day for like a week before it starts to die.
It depends on a ton of factors, some people need to wash their hair every 2 days because of various reasons, like humidity, temperature, and how greasy their hair is naturally. Other people however can only wash their hair every week, and it's perfectly healthy thick and strong, it depends on so many factors, there is no universal best amount to wash your hair, it changes person to person
Mix the baking soda in a large bowl of warm water until it's mixed in the water. Take a cup and dump the water and soda mixture over your head several times while scrubbing gently to get flakes and dirt out of hair. Rinse hair thoroughly with fresh water, do not leave baking soda water in your hair. It leaves your hair smelling fresh, and feeling soft.
I wash my hair once every 2-4 weeks and when I do wash it I get dry hair and dandruff. When I don’t wash my hair it’s super healthy and sets right with 0 issues like dandruff or itches
When my hair feels too greasy I wash my hair with baking soda, and to add moisture or vitamins (idk what) I use apple cider vinegar. Personally I feel as though my hair is healthier, fuller, and maybe it’s just me but I feel like I don’t lose as much hair as before, compared to when I did wash my hair with trad shampoos
I haven't Washed my Hair since 3 months. Yesterday I did so I look better in my suite. It's something Not everyone understands your body has to adopt to it it takes work to train you body down so it stops to produce As mutch Tallow so you don't get All these negative effects. Btw I am happy A Towel can Give you an Acceptable look if it is A bit more Greasy from a Workout or Labour.
I wash my hair once every 2-4 weeks, and every single day after I do wash it looks better and better. In fact, I have to plan hair washing for days no one will see me for the next ~48 hours because my hair looks all dry and messy. All scalps have different needs, and on top of that yours has to get used to it and slow down the production of grease, which it is now used to being stripped away frequently.
I haven’t washed my hair in the last 8-9 months. I use conditioner every day but other than that, nothing. I used to have a flakey, irritated scalp, but ever since I stopped using shampoo my hair and head have never felt healthier. Certainly doesn’t work for everyone, but I’d suggest giving it a whirl. Even if you’re not taking shampoo completely out of your routine, your scalp would probably appreciate a break from the chemicals for a bit.
For me it's actually the opposite really expensive shampoos damaged my scalp and caused dermatitis, dermatologists didn't help me all that much, recommended me diprosalyc acid solution that gets rid of the scalp irritation and dermatitis in 1 go, but every time I washes my hair using shampoo it would come back so I stopped. Had no problems ever since, except for when I accidentally washed my hair with shampoo and had to start all over again. Shampoo caused itching dandruff and dermatitis for me, it kills and ruins your scalp and health.
I haven't put soap in my hair for 15 years. At first ( 1 month ) it was a little greasy. Since then no noticeable issues. I'm sure the type of hair make a difference
As a fish guy, they have "slime coat". The issue is that people start using shampoo too early and too often. And your scalp actually changes how it cares for itself. When you disrupt this cycle, the body reacts accordingly. Like withdrawal. People have more connection with the earth than others want to admit.
