FYI keeping the Tech Air jacket in race mode all the time is probably not preferred if you are a street rider. Race mode prevents the airbag from activating if you are moving less than ~50kmh or something like that, and also only fires 1 of the 2 canisters so that you can get up and keep riding for the rest of the day (you will need to send it in anyways). If you want maximum protection and protection in all scenarios, including being rear-ended, t-boned, side-swiped at a stop etc, keep it in street mode.
@BartelsHD
@BartelsHD 4 года назад
That is true many people don't know the differences between the two modes. However in the end I guess it's up to the rider's preference.
@xtreamersm1575
@xtreamersm1575 4 года назад
The tech air race vest in RACE mode will not go off in a low side until you tumble. Also it is possable to have a second activation in RACE mode.
@BartelsHD
@BartelsHD 3 года назад
@@xtreamersm1575 good point, that makes a lot of sense. I wish the manufacturers would do a better job of explaining the differences between the two modes
@twistedsocal
@twistedsocal Год назад
@@BartelsHD they explain the living hell out of the two modes, the thing is, if you are going to spend upwards of 2k on a piece of gear or 1200 for the insert to an already 500+ dollar jacket, you probably should do your due diligence. Race mode doesn't work for the street, like at all, if you are at a light and get rear ended or go down low side on a slow corner cause of gravel etc it won't work for you running race mode. Also, it deploys slower in race mode, that's due to only using a single canister so you can jump back on the bike and ride the rest of the day at the track. On the street with concrete curbs and steel cars you want both those canisters to fire at the same time, you want full inflation in half the time and you want the higher pressure in the bags to sustain a harder impact such as the hood of a car who just blew through a red light and the ass end of your bike

Saying the Dainese Smart Jacket is NOT constructed of "any kind of abrasion resistant material" is misinformation. Check the specifications on the Dainese website. The jacket is described as being "constructed of abrasion resistant material". This is precisely WHY the jacket can be worn externally! It is not "definately designed to be worn inside the jacket", it is designed to be worn EITHER inside or OUTSIDE a garment. Maybe more research is required before posting your "review"?
@BartelsHD
@BartelsHD 4 года назад
After riding with it for many hours that is what John concluded. You have to remember its just an opinion.
@spritemark1
@spritemark1 4 года назад
@@BartelsHD it isn't a matter of "opinion" as to whether Dainese has constructed the jacket of abrasion resistant material. Do you seriously think that a company of Dainese's standing would describe any protective apparel as "abrasion resistant" if it were not? If you do not accept the manufacturers description then you are implying that Dainese are being less than truthful about their product. Perhaps you should re-think your comments...
@BartelsHD

@@spritemark1 Whatever its really up to you. For city riding that's where it's intended to be worn on the outside. For sport and track riding you wear it under.
@spritemark1
@spritemark1 4 года назад
@@BartelsHD OK, so you are deliberately evading the point. You stated that the vest was "NOT made of any abrasion resistant material" which is quite simply NOT TRUE. If you want to review products in such a sloppy, misinformed and inaccurate fashion, that is your prerogative.

Nice video. I wear the D-air Misano jacket and hope I never have to put the airbags to the test but feel far more protected than any other jacket I’ve owned in the past 30 years. Any other jacket just feels too light to me now and doesn’t inspire anywhere as much confidence as the Dainese’s D-air. If Rossi trusts it, I trust it 💯

With the velcro connecting of the chest on the tech air, shouldn’t it work in any kind of leathers? what necessary use is the clip in and extra velcro in the leathers? It’s not like it’s going to move inside any leathers if deployed?

I think there two versions of the Alpinestars, one for road, the race, as reviewed here and the road version, which can be worn under any jacket I believe, as long as the cut allows for the expansion.

@malexder0082
@malexder0082 4 года назад
You may have to go up two sizes depending on the brand and cut of the jacket, Dainese, Alpinestars and Vanson sizes run smaller than other brands. I wear this vest with a 46 Dainese and I usually wear a 42 or 44 depending on the brand.
@BartelsHD
@BartelsHD 4 года назад
Very good point. All the companies sizes differ a lot. That's why it is always important to try the jackets on before you buy them.
@Uninfluenceable
@Uninfluenceable 4 года назад
but then now your arm cuffs are like 2" too long, and that would get REALLY annoying. You should never go up 2 sizes with motorcycle leather. The A* is meant to only go into jackets that are designed specifically for it with extra elastication/stretch to account for the vent. The Dainese should be worn outside unless your a really, really skinny European fellar... If you're a bigger guy (or normal by American standards), they you really should have the jacket tailored or buy one of the "short" sizes from Dainese if you want to wear the vent on the inside.
@BartelsHD
@BartelsHD 4 года назад
@@Uninfluenceable True, you do have a good point about the cuffs being long. Fitment wise it's totally a rider's preference. At the end the day it's all about what fits the rider best.

Dude these two are not comparable....you need to compare apple's to apples. Ffs ..one is part of a system ie the tech air the other is a free standing non paired protection vest that goes great under a hoodie or an everyday piece of clothing. Alpinestars also makes a similar vest to the d-air . And the dianese stuff comes as part of a system too full race suite and all. As far as keeping it in race mode that's a horrible idea. It will prevent the vest from deployment at a stand still ie.. at a red light, it will keep it for going off in a low speed low side think gravel. Always flash the tech air to street if you are going to use it for the street. It gives u only one deployment vs the track mode which gives you two.
