Author, screenwriter and television producer Daisy Goodwin discusses her new novel, Diva, with Dorothy Byrne, President of Murray Edwards College, Cambridge and former Head of News at Channel 4, .
Their wide-ranging and entertaining conversation, held as part of Murray Edwards' celebrations for International Women's Day 2024, explores Daisy's career as a top producer, devising acclaimed TV formats such as Grand Designs and Escape to the Country.
Daisy is also the creator of the ITV/PBS show Victoria, which has sold to 146 countries. She has written four novels, including Victoria, and discusses the latest, Diva, a fictionalised account of the life of the great opera soprano Maria Callas.
She also explains her decision to make public in June 2023 her account of being assaulted in 2013 by the then-Conservative mayoral candidate, Daniel Korski, who she told the Times had put his hand on her breast during a meeting in Downing Street. Korski denied the allegation. Later that month he withdrew his candidacy.

Isn’t Maria Callas’ year of death 1977? That’s such a pathetically basic error.

Her book on Callas is a disgrace and a disservice to Callas. I’m not the only one to say so. The reviews for her book are ruthless. Her inaccuracies are laughable. The Callas Estate should have it remove from shelves. I mean, she can’t even get Callas year of death right. 😂
