"There's worse crimes on earth than loyalty." Quite right Mrs. Byrd, quite right.

Mrs Patmore really shouldn't have suggested this in the first place! 😂But Daisy's loyalty is touching, & Mrs Byrd was a very good sport 😊

Daisy a simple soul. Mrs Patmore is somewhat of a basket case but they’re both lovely people and hilarious

I love how Mrs. Bird responded with such grace & patience towards Daisy. She even suspected Daisy was up to something & still ultimately handled the situation with tenderness. Such a contrast to Mrs. Patmore! Mrs. Bird later uses her own money to feed struggling soldiers. Mrs. Patmore tries to catch her out then, too, but learns Mrs. Bird is doing something good instead. At least Mrs. Patmore redeems herself by joining her efforts. Would've liked to have seen more of Mrs. Bird. Such a lovely character!

I really liked Mrs Bird which is why I was so surprised that she was so uncaring towards Ethel
@cindykaye3152
@cindykaye3152 2 года назад
That's true! I had forgotten how she behaved towards Ethel. I think her response to that situation probably had more to do with how she viewed Ethel's behavior. Daisy was acting out of loyalty to Mrs. Patmore. The soldiers had served their king & country & been injured, which caused their need. But Ethel had chosen the affair that resulted in the child she couldn't care for, which in turn resulted in her turning to prostitution to survive. Mrs. Bird was responding to the moral standards of the era that were broken by Ethel's choice.
@davidthaler7018

@@cindykaye3152 Well….let’s not forget it took two people to make that child, the other of whom was a soldier who gave his life for king and country.
@cindykaye3152
@cindykaye3152 2 года назад
@@davidthaler7018 I can't tell if you are serious or not. What does that have to do with how Mrs. Bird viewed the situation? She wouldn't have cared who fathered the child, only that Ethel was not married to the father prior to conception, and that Ethel chose prostitution to provide for him. Women were held to a stricter moral standard than men then. Fair or not, that's the way it was.

This is exactly why Robert’s longtime service staff are so loyal to him - he doesn’t immediately fly off the handle or sack them the moment they make a mistake but instead tries to rectify the problem & make life easier for them until they get back on their feet. Truly an example of what it is to care for the people who do their best to look after you.

You would be to for a woman of her age and time period and position. Being a domestic servant was a lifelong commitment. Until you've become surplus to requirement. Mrs. Patmore didn't really realize the family wanted her to stay. Finding a new maid is easy, replacing your cook not so much. 3:43 The others at the table are sitting uncomfortably with their heads down, especially Rose Leslie who had the same pose seasons later when she returned and dined upstairs. Actors who aren't the focus of attention in a scene are supposed to maintain stillness so as not to be distracting from the main action. I love the fact that in this scene, it also contributes and demonstrates the rigid rules they were all under not to be impolite and to avoid any unpleasantness at almost all costs. When the other cook bangs the table, Bates winces not just from the noise but also his expression shows a dismay that such...emotion is being demonstrated and was sadly necessary.
