Used this video twice now to fix my son’s Red Rider jam. Instead of masking tape I used two zip ties to hold the trigger. This second time I found that it didn’t work until I released the trigger from the zip ties and then pulled it again a couple times manually. Thanks for this video! I would have been screwed without it.

Sir, if you don't mind, did you have to take the screw half way out or ALL the way out? Also, great job with zip tie! It is a great idea to control the trigger housing. Below is a maintenance video to try and stop this plunger jam. It and its sister video will help with loading ramp jam. Kids put crazy stuff in there! @@daisy880fanaticfixit9 thank you for all this information. I took the screw all the way out and it didn’t solve the jam at first so I put it back in. Then I cut the zip ties and took the screw completely out again and jiggled the trigger again but mostly held it down and it released that time. I found your updated video with the two screw loosening after I got the jam to release so I’ll try that next time. It’s a new gun just bought in January. He’s having a blast around the farm with it.

Sir, glad he is having a blast. And it can take a rat 🐀 with careful head shot. I've done it! I use Ballistol total care. Tip it down after lube and shoot. I recently checked the power with my tried and true test - shooting the bottom of a pop can at 5 yards. When a Umarex BB hit on the flat metal, it shot through or cracked it open. LOVE THE ZIP TIE MOVE! I will recommend that going forward.

John, NICE JOB! It sounds like you were focused on keeping the trigger pulled back, AND it sounds like you took the screw all the way out. That sounds like the jam was plunger riding on TOP of the anti trap tooth. There are varied theories about what happens back there. One thing the old timers know for sure - this didn't happen before the intro of the anti trap. Here is revised video where I just say to release screw from the the RIGHT SIDE ONLY and potentially the stock screw also. Holding the trigger back it vital, unless it is dislocated anti trap, then that won't work and trigger gets sucked inside. A working - clicking - trigger is another fix, so DIAGNOSIS is vital. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EBNu5X3l5ds.html Happy shooting and avoid a devastating breech jam by shooting new Avanti or Umarex Zinc BBs. Also please take off lever and douse it in back with 30 SAE ND or my favorite Ballistol. Then re-establish lever and use a blue thread locker on the nut; you don't want that falling off; it happens - with eventual consequences. Any way, thanks for gratitude!

Why Fix a $30 Gun? I can say having mine jam in the first 200 shots was maddening. Others go through that also, legions actually. Since the intro of the ABT, this is common. I cleared my jam, but others don't. $30 isn't much, but suffering a potential terminal jam to a brand new gun upsets people. Prices can go as high as $60 in certain areas. Mine was more than $30. Most owners feel that their newly bought Ryder had better last longer than 200 shots.

I just ordered a new 1938B on Amazon for under $25. I’m going to test it once I get it just to make sure all is well, then it’s going right back in the box for storage as a backup in case my current Ryder ever dies (also a 1938B). So inexpensive it just makes sense to me to have a new one ready to go in case of malfunction that can’t be easily fixed. It’s not like mine are vintage or anything but I just love these little shooters. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us in your videos!

Stephen, I spotted you on RESTOMOD, so you how how great these guns can be, how Daisy could make them. I've had some recent days where I was getting eaten alive trying to help clear jams in the current production Red Ryder. I have helped as much as I can tolerate. When somebody, rightfully, goes off complaining, I don't argue. I tell them 25 or 2840. Shane thanked me for helping here because many Cobalt upgrades go into these guns. You buying two is smart in a few ways - you gotta great price to cargo ship. If the spring gives out, you have another to harvest. But I get your view, since it isn't rifled, just bust out new one. But for longevity, try oiling on each side of trigger blade and infront. Taking off the lever is a snap, and you lube the plunger plate in back. Stephen, all that will help give you carefree shooting. The backup stays in the box.

@@daisy880fanaticfixit9 thanks for the advice! Quick question, as you are probably more knowledgeable than I... my current 1938B has a plastic lever and black barrel band. I bought it about 3 years ago. The new one that just arrived yesterday has a brass colored barrel band and an aluminum lever. Other than that, they are basically identical. Does Daisy change up small details like that every few years or so? Or did I get some kind of limited edition? Nothing on the box leads me to believe this new 1938B is “special” in any way, but the 2 notable changes are just a curiosity to me.
@daisy880fanaticfixit9
@daisy880fanaticfixit9 3 года назад
Stephen, you GOT GREAT DEAL! With a gun like that please use only new BBs like Avanti and Umarex. Great accuracy and avoid BB jam risk. The lever is actually zinc cast, which is good because it adds weight. Unless you take it off and tell me it is PAPER LIGHT, that is zinc diecast. Both metals are not magnet. The brass is nice touch whereas my band was basic black and the lever was plastic. My upgrade metal lever adds weight and nearly cocks itself. Can you send link? So I can see what you got? It does look like special addition. Great buy!

@@daisy880fanaticfixit9 hey I have tried posting the link to Amazon twice but I think RU-vid is deleting it. Guess it doesn’t like it. Newbies think, "I will just take out all the screws and take it apart!" Trying to clear a jam like that ends in tears....bye-bye Ryder!! Taking the gun apart when you have not diagnosed the jam LEADS TO A WORSE JAM. THIS VIDEO FOCUSES ON FIXES WITHOUT DISASSEMBLY - THE GOAL. If the trigger works, and is clicking when cocking, and clicks when you pull the blade, YOU DON'T REMOVE THE TRIGGER SCREW. For pick use, the trap arm is on TOP when the gun is upside down. Run pick across the smooth side of the plunger, getting IN BETWEEN arm teeth and top of plunger. AVOID GRABBING PLUNGER METAL. The removal of the trigger screw is only prudent on the PLUNGER Dislocation. The trigger and lever are totally dead, totally silent when cocking lever - no clicking at all. And you cocked it 7 clicks, the lever being 3/8 of an inch from the frame. The trigger must be TAPED and the tape wrapped AROUND the stock, bear trap down.

@Znaniye YES, stop trying to remove the screw for now. Freeze! So here is the reality: Shooters don't cock their RR 7 clicks, they think it is jammed, they try removing trigger and it gets sucked inside. Much more serious jam. A gent figured out the ultimate fix for what I now call zombie jam. Slack lever slack trigger. SOME ARE REAL plunger jams - not your fault. Now you already were in progress of removing screw. That tension you feel is the anti bear trap (ABT) pulling on your trigger housing. If you force that screw out now, it will get sucked side. Please follow video below, then review RR handling video. IN YOUR CASE, DON'T REMOVE SCREW UNTIL YOU HAVE AIMED DOWN AND SMACKED THE GUN AND SHAKEN IT. Try that first, then video instruction if no fix. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yAO-GOvolYQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ay8oSXlhNWY.html

Doug, this looks like break in pains. This is a dangerous time for modern Ryder. Lube sides of trigger and front. Ballistol is what I would use here. The classical 10 WEIGHT, will slick out moving parts in the trigger assembly. Keep gun upside DOWN and work trigger, work in lube. Also take off lever, and HOSE- yes I mean that - the slanted plate. The plate contacts sear. 30 SAE ND fine, but this needs to be done RIGHT NOW to avoid jam.
