I've been curious about the BFS for river smallies... I fish really clear water and casting distance is important... what's the difference, if any, that you're seeing with that salamander than you would with a spinning setup? Thanks for the video--looked like fun!
Same question I had when I picked up the reel - how would it be different than a spinning setup. The main two things I've noticed so far is that such light lures on a spinning need some whip in the cast to get them out there, and you start to lose accuracy. With the super light spool, it's designed to start up very quickly and needs a lot less flick in the wrist to get going. I backlashed a lot at first, but once I got the hang of the cast - my accuracy and distance went through the roof. I could skip a ned rig under a branch and let the current take it back out. THEN, fighting the fish I just feel I have a bit more control over the fish in the current and cover - but that may be just my preference to click the thumb bar and let it run using my thumb as the drag. But so far, I've been really impressed.
