Love this reel! I'm getting myself a 7' next so I can move up on the fish sizes but I've pulled in some fat heavy bass on the 6'6". Oh btw Dicks only has 1 rod combo for $30 now so you got a great deal! My reel did make a weird noise when I first got it but I took it apart and threw some oil on it and it stopped the noise. But you almost always need to oil a new rod at least one time out of the box. Haven't had to oil mine since.
I put some line on this combo and it’s been great! I couldn’t recall where I might have purchased the combo so I searched and found your excellent video. Looking to buy another, really like it for kayak fishing for Flounder. It’s been really good in NJ, about 25 today with two keepers! Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I’ll be off to Dicks this week.
Nice combo and it's always a great feeling to get your first catch on a brand new setup. I was laughing when you were fighting that fish through the trees haha
I think it is a little to soft for a crankbait rod. It really feels more like a medium light instead of the medium it has on the label. I feel it’s good for lighter lures like 1/8oz or less. But it is a good combo for the money. I still use both of the ones I got on sale. Thanks for watching
I love buying these! But the combos never says "fast" "extra Fast" or anything they only say Medium, or Medium Light., Think in general they are probably alll considered fast???
I've seen those before. Good fishing with those combos. Yeah I'm not a big fan for those rods that have alot of bend, makes it harder to drive the hook when ya set it. Thumbs up!
Good question. It has what feels like a cheap type of anti-reverse lock. I have been editing some new videos and I can hear how there may be something funny happening with the anti reverse when I am setting the hook. I could even hear it in this video a little. I have not taken them apart yet and the descriptions do not even mention anti reverse feature. A lot of the reviews on Dick's site mention the anti reverse failing.
@@FISHINandJUNK Thanks for the info appreciate it! This reel is braid ready? Or lay down some mono first? Or just load with the braid then the fluro leader?
You will need a mono backing. I will say that I have used the Samurai combos a lot and I am still happy with them. For the price they are very good. My only issue with them is the anti-reverse. It isn't instant and you will notice it at times.
I am still using both combos. They have done really well. I think the have a 7ft MH but I think it a 2 piece. I also wish the reels had instant anti-reverse, they slip occasionally.
Thanks for watching. I should have mentioned it in the video. I use 10lb braid with an 8lb fluorocarbon leader. The braid is a generic brand off of Amazon (Hercules I think) and the fluoro leader is Kastking. I have not had any issues with the braid on that combo. My only complaint with the combo after using it a lot more is the reel does not have instant anti-reverse and you will notice it from time to time.
