Good product overview. Have you tried their power station? I was thinking about picking it up to run gopros, depth finder and charge my phone.

Dakota Lithium just came out with a 170ah capacity battery which weights at 43 pounds. I have a Optima 55ah D34M which is also 43 pounds. If you are running a trolling motor on a kayak and you are going to use a lead acid or AGM batteries, it is worth it to make the switch to lithium especially if you are tournament kayak fishing. For example I ran the Optima down to 40 percent last week on my aluminum 14 foot V bottom Lowe Sea Nymph, and I ran it with a 62 pound Newport Vessels trolling motor and there was 2 of us on my boat with lots of gear, Castaic Lake California with lots of Chop but we did use the trolling motor mostly on level 1 since we had so much power with the 62lb trolling motor, once in a while ran it on level 5 and moving around speed 3 was good enough unless I wanted to pass my friends bass tracker pro 170 with his 45 pound trolling motor and jump to fish in front of them lol 😂. I already felt the power loss of the trolling motor at the end and most likely 1 more hour then battery would have been dead. To compare Dakota has a 54ah battery for sale at $499 compared to the $300 I paid for my AGM and like you said you can drain 100 percent and it weights at 17 pounds compared to my Optima 43 pounds. That’s substantial if you are running a trolling motor on your kayak. Good review 😁👍🇺🇸🍺👌💪👍 and lithium totally worth it if you are constantly fishing and use a trolling motor and can save a little. Having the best trolling motor won’t matter if you are stranded after 3 hours. Best thing about Dakota Lithium batteries is that they are made here in America 👌🇺🇸💪😁😎👍👍👍

All weight matters you may not paddle 8-10hrs in hot weather against the wind but maximum weight saving is more crucial in a yak vs a boat. So reducing total weight for a kayak that may only have 350lbs max weight is also a safety consideration.

I was wondering is there a solar panel that could charge the lithium battery on a fly-in trip.
@jimriley2812
@jimriley2812 4 года назад
Not to mention the life of the battery itself is like 4x longer with a lithium. Still cheaper, lighter and much better than the anchor. Weight isn’t all about capacity. It’s also about maneuverability. In and out of the boat and such which makes COMPLETE sense if your carrying it around. No downside to the lithium including cost. Maybe more up front but still cheaper for the long haul.

I think the biggest problem with the lead acid as u touched on is they drop under required voltage well within the cycle. So you may only be able to use your battery with your fish finder with 50% or above remaining. It seems like a terrible waste and design to me for the purpose but I agree they are cost effective
@PainterD54

I found the lithium batteries to be quite expensive so I decided on just a cheaper AGM battery to power my depth finder. Then I noticed people are using their electric drill batteries to power their depth finders! Mine are 6AH -18v batteries (Milwaukee M18) and my depth finder can be powered by anywhere from 10 to 20 VDC, so I'm good to go! Just to be on the safe side, I hooked up an 18 to 12 volt converter to my depth finder so I wouldn't have any problems. I see some are running them with the full 18 volts but why take chances and the converter is only $10 or so.

great video! you have convinced me to go lithium. Question for you though, do they make “marine grade” female spade terminals? Most of the lithium batteries Ive seen have the spade style terminals. Most of the videos Ive been watching tell you to run 10 or 12 gauge marine wire to your electronics and the terminals Ive seen them using are large for that size wire, but they’re all hooking them up to full size batteries. Any info would be appreciated.

Weight reduction in a kayak makes a difference the kayak will sit lower in the water with more weight witch will cause more drag so its something to consider also

Everyone keeps bashing the price. What’s the warranty on your sla? Is it 11 years like the Dakota? The life of the lithiums are 4 times longer or more. You get more power per dollar from a lithium ion. As for weight in a kayak, IT MAKES ABSOLUTELY PERFECT SENSE! IT MAKES SENSE FOR A GOD DAMN CRUISER OR A DINGY TO LOWER WEIGHT. Personal opinions on cost shouldn’t inspire reviews on function. But I guess that’s why you’re still 4200 subs and making nothing for your review
