dalai lama misinterpreted buddha's saying. buddha only said not to accept anything out of faith, not even his words as his followers may misinterpret his words. as his teachings were orally transmitted, many of his teachings were not in the true shape, and monks distorted some of his teachings eventually.
Oral transmission is a tradition of giving transfer of unbroken living lineage of that particular texts from teachers to students and also teachers to teachers only at the request of student. Oral transmission is received by students when somebody seriously wanted to study and practice such and such root texts according to the Tathagata Buddha quotes you mentioned above. It is not that Dalai Lama will give transmission on all texts. He only give transmission only on such and such texts which he has also received transmission from other lineage teachers. Once, after transmission, then it is your job to apply your mind and try to understand the text with open mind according to reason and commonsense. That's why, in Indo-Tibetan Bhuddhist Tradition, Dhamma is categorised into two: 1. Provisional teaching 2. Definitive Teaching, within Definitive teaching still there are two further. It is not that you have to accept whatever is explained by Dalai Lama because he himself is encouraging his students not to believe out of devotion.You yourself have to investigated whatever is said by Dalai Lama. 🫡🫡🫡🫡
Like in Pali Tradition Buddhism, Tathagata Buddha used to say, yes , there is a self other than physical body, but to other students, tathagata used to say, there is no self. So, Tathagata used to give many different teachings on the basis of students mental disposition or whatever is suitable to the students. However, he used to say, that not to follow his teachings out of devotion but rather encouraged to follow his teachings through investigation like Gold Smit test the purity of gold by burning, rubbing and hammering. Now, when you follow Nalanda tradition, these teachings are categorically rejected as provisional teaching which means Tathagata has said or have such teaching for different purpose for the purpose of whatever is beneficial and suitable to different types of students. If anything is goes against reason and commonsense, in Monastic University, it is considered provisional teaching. That's why, in Indo-Tibetan Bhuddhist Tradition, Dhamma is categorised into two: 1.
