I am still shedding tears after hearing he prayed before every race that nobody would get hurt. After his death everything changed in NASCAR to make safety a priority.
Hey JC the fact that You asked that question shows that you don't understand what family means in Nascar and you don't understand how much larger than life some drivers in Nascar can seem to become and Dale Sr was a true living legend before his death and has become An almost unsurpassed legend and hero of Nascar and now with Jr being placed in the Hall of Fame the Earnhardts are one of the very few families with 3 generations in the hall of Fame if not the only one 1⃣
And JC the answer to your question is he's most likely a die hard Nascar fan and probably might have been most of his life like me ,I've been a big time Nascar fan for 50years plus ➕ and I was a big time fan of Sr and I've been a big time fan of Jr since he moved up from what used to be the Busch series (which is now the xfinity series)
And JC I I saw the infamous Daytona 500 on CBS that Richard Petty won as Cale Yarbrough and the Allison Brothers were having a brawl in turn 3 that Donnie Allison claimed Cale kept running his face into his (Donnie's ) fists until Cale finally fell to the ground with a little help from Bobby (Allison)
I totally agree with what Dale's sister Cathy said. I think the same way about my dad who passed at 59. I never had to see him as an old man. He will always be 59 in my heart.
SR was the boss.he was great for nascar.he was just the intimidator on the track.he was a softy and did a whole lot for charity stuff and never told anyone,very humble.I sure miss watching him race.
Everytime I see a video like this on Dale Sr it just makes me miss him more. Trust me, its been almost 20years I'm sure he would've retired long ago but I would still love to see him around giving us his 2cents on any subject matter!
At the beginning of the 2001 season from what i heard Dale signed a contract extension to 2005 and knowing Earnhardt he would race till his body didn't let him so most likely i think he would of retired by 2009 or 2010 at most.
I still enjoy a race from back n the day when there were no restrictors or speed limits and Dale was running hard. Thanks to those that post those old times for old race fans like me to enjoy. My favorites was when Dale made Bill cry all the way home.
To alot of people it may have seen he was hard on Dale jr and Kelly but in fact he had it figured out just rite look at his children today there beyond outstanding. Jr had a little bit of a wild streak while he was younger that's just part of being young and he lost his hero/farther and suddenly had the weight of the sport on his shoulders. Everything he had to endure would had broken a normal man instead it only made him stronger. And it didn't hurt having a good family support system around and a wonderful wife to be and know a farther with Amy. Sr would be such a proud parent of his children had he survived to see them mature in to the people they have become.
I don't usually try to be an instigator but I'm thinking Johnny Dobbs and Sam Doe need to have a discussion about Jr and what he has come to mean to Nascar

Jr came in to Nascar with big shoes to fill in both his dad's and his grandad's and by the time he retired earlier than planned they were probably looking down with smiles on their faces telling each other yup the boy done good
@Sam Doe he Sam Doe I'm thinking that in some places there are plenty of Jr fans who would disagree 👎 very strongly with your comments and I for one 1⃣ wonder where you've been for the last 20years that you missed hearing that Jr was and still is one of the most popular drivers in Nascar history and is one of the most influential retired drivers Nascar has and he must have done something right somewhere along the line to have been placed into the Hall of Fame amongst the greatest of the greats

@Sam Doe and Sam if you're talking about sister Kelly Jr was pretty much her biggest supporter and he helped her with car setups and driving tips and has always said he thought she had a bright future had her priorities not changed when she became a mother

Living here in carolina.. and having worked as a fabricator in Nascar i have seen the decline and the many reasons why. Nascar knows the problem and doesnt care.. its greed now
This is sad for me to watch. I got into nascar in spring 2000 Atlanta race beating Bobby Labonte. Sad i never got to experience his legacy in the 80s and 90s. RIP Dale Earnhardt 🏁
It wasn’t until after SR’s death that the stories about his charitable acts started coming out. He never wanted anyone to know about what he did, he did it to give back, not for the publicity. I remember one story about a local church that needed some help with renovations and such and Sr paid to have the parking lot repaved. He told the minister to not tell a single person that he was the one that paid for it. If he did, he said he would come back one night with his front loader and “take the pavement back”. Really miss him, there aren’t enough men like him around these days.
bryancurtislyles12 things would have been a lot different if Sr hadn’t died. Not only did Jr lose his father, but he lost his father’s legacy when DEI was stolen from him. Jr had to basically start over, but without his greatest supporter. I remember Mark Martin talking about Jr during the season of his second Busch championship. Mark said that the way Jr raced, how he was very aggressive, that he thought Jr would be even better than Sr was. Many other drivers, including Rusty Wallace and Darrell Waltrip, said similar things. I can’t imagine getting back into a race car after losing your father like that, it took a lot of guts, much more guts than sitting behind a keyboard making fun of someone.
If Dale Sr had not got killed Dale Jr would have been almost impossible to beat Sr forgot more about raceing than the rest of the ones and driver's ever knew
why not seeing jr had his home and being doing famers workings as his dad had doing it now, and racing cars jr inc is cool as his dad own inc , if it me robert trying to get back his dad old shop and the home too, he and kelly own old toys and others stuff too, as for the outsides why not uesd it for a meeting for others and seeing the ols cars too,
The day nascar changed !! An not for the better ! Ratings are down the excitment of the sport totally withered away !! To many rule changes an spoiler packages an utter nonsense for tv an money in my opinion let them be drivers they all know the risk of this great sport !!!
