I was hoping you’d include the Iron Man record on here. Jeff Gordon had 797 consecutive starts, from Atlanta in November of 1992 to Homestead in November of 2015. That’s every race for 23 years in a row - no injuries, no illnesses, no suspensions, no DNQ’s, no sponsor issues. That being said, I understand why you didn’t include it, as Harvick may pass Jeff if he races til 2024 without missing a race. Right now (3/27/2021) he’s at 682 starts.

9:24 I would kill to see an exhibition race at Road America , the Daytona Road Course, etc. where we could have a multi-class NASCAR race. It’d be super unique with Cup cars weaving through Truck traffic, and having 50+ vehicles on a reasonably large track to space things out. Speaking of multiclass racing, has the IMSA ladder been a favorite of yours? I find it to be consistently competitive, and can make for a fantastic viewing experience for both TV and onsite viewers.

Appropriately, Mark Martin finishes 2nd in the number of times finishing 2nd. The record holder is actually Richard Petty, who finished 2nd in the points 6 times. As for the 3 straight Coke 600/4 straight Southern 500 wins, I don't think those are unbeatable. Darrell Waltrip nearly had 3 straight 600s, winning in 78-79 and finishing 2nd in 1980.

Another good one would be Richard Petty's record for wins at the most unique tracks (54), owing to the length and timing of his career. Since the list of tracks NASCAR visits nowadays is fairly stable, the most unique tracks the very best drivers could hope to win at today would be around 30 at best. The most of any active driver is Kyle Busch with 23.

Ned Jarrett also won a couple short track races that year by 22 laps, so he holds the record whether you go by number of laps or number of miles, although his Southern 500 win does mark the mile record. The reason for that is obviously because Chrysler boycotted most of the 1965 season so Petty and Pearson weren't racing, and for the most part all the races were decided by Jarrett, Junior Johnson, and Dick Hutcherson, although some other Ford drivers like Fred Lorenzen also entered and won the higher-profile events. So if Johnson and Hutcherson drop out of the race, it can lead to some big margins. I think Jarrett retired for safety reasons and not because he had nothing to prove. Billy Wade, Joe Weatherly, Fireball Roberts, and Jimmy Pardue had all died in a one year time span and NASCAR outlawed Chrysler's Hemi engine ostensibly for safety reasons, which led to the Chrysler boycott. Jarrett had also extricated Roberts from his burning car in a failed attempt to save his life and that must have badly shaken him. I'm pretty sure that's why he retired (and also why Hutcherson, Lorenzen, Johnson, and Rex White all retired in a one to two year time span, which was a major contributor to Petty and Pearson's domination as they were for a while almost the only major stars left.) At that point, I don't think anybody had broadcasting in mind.
