Dale Earnhardt Jr. unveils his ‘Gray Ghost’ inspired paint scheme for the throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway for the Bojangles’ Southern 500. For more NASCAR news, check out: www.NASCAR.com
I would really love/have loved to see Jr take on a paint scheme similar to his Dale Sr's. I know it wouldn't be the #3, nor would it have the same sponsors, but I'm sure there's a way they could pull it off. I think we all could agree that A. Dillon, in absolutely no way, deserves to use that scheme; but we'd all love to see it brought back in a respectable way.
I do know in the past before they started the throw backs darlington Dale Jr and I believe the entire company of DEI did a paint scheme to honor Dale Sr. If you're interested lol
He did in 2006 for the Aarons 499 but he spun out early, tore up the transmission and then blew the motor later on towards the end. Look it up. 3 Days of Dale Tribute
If we get stuck with Blake Shelton again, I hope NBCSN gives him Labor Day Weekend off, and brings back "Fuel" by Metallica. GIMME FUEL GIMME FIRE GIMME THAT WHICH I DESIRE
Although I love the Gray Ghost, I would have loved to see Jr run a black #88 as a tribute to his dad, oh well, if Darlington does a 90s theme, then I'd love to see him run it
+RAZORBLADEDALEJRBUCSFAN88 I just commented the same thing and completely agree. I know the number and sponsors wouldn't match up, but I think they'd be able to pull something off that would be a respectable way to pay tribute to Sr, and no one, especially not A. Dillon, other than JR, would be proper.
+Your Life Is A Great Story You are right, the only drivers worthy of doing it are Dale Jr or Jeffery (unlikely since he drives a Ford), or any other future Earnhardt
I'd rather see a Dale Jarret #18 throwback, that's just my opinion. The paint scheme on Dale's 18 was more different than Bobby's 18, and takes memories back even further. I'm only 21, but I've read books and seen images of it.
Why didn't they do the number coloring the same as Buddy Baker's 28 car? it's like these throw back cars are 75% close.. but fall short it's cool they're doing it.. but if you're going to do it.. go all the way?
No, that wouldn't be good. Dale's mom said she never wants to see a black 3 on the track again, and even Richard said Dale's GM Goodwrench paint scheme will never be on the track again.
Nah, Jr. did the best tribute to his father that anyone could ever do, he ran his dad's yellow and blue Wrangler paint scheme and won the race with it, no tribute to Sr. could ever top that. Besides, as others have said Sr's GM Goodwrench scheme should never be raced again UNLESS Jr is driving the car, then I would be ok with it and I think a lot of Sr's fans would too.
+Jeremy Gaudin Yeah I understand it's not a collision repair center, the insurance company figures the cheap aftermarket or used parts that go on your new vehicle darlin.
