This makes Dale’s death even sadder, when DW said “oh I hope Dale’s okay..” after the wreck it wasn’t a commenter talking about a driver, it was DW talking about a close friend.

@@default123default2 Yes they were. They became really close in the 90s. Stevie, DW's wife, used to give Dale scripture quotes, which he'd tape to the dash of his car on race day. Dale also gave DW a rocking chair as a retirement present and they had a 1 on 1 interview before the 2001 Daytona 500. You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground!

LOVE the DW stories, thanks a million! Since Darrell mentioned your Dads' jet here decided to reply. Quick note to Dale Earnhardt Jr., I'm the inspector that did the pre-purchase examination on your Learjet when you traded it in for the Cessna. I had them park it right next to my desk and spent hours sitting on the divan reading the logbooks thru the France family years and your family. Can't tell you in words what a thrill it was sitting in there reading the books. For everyone reading this and listening to these stories, that jet was in immaculate condition, a real testament to the years of professional maintenance and loving care it spent it's life in. Several of us seriously looked at buying it and leaving it just as traded-in and selling charter flights to your many fans. Imagine riding in the Earnhardt jet to a race, could not get any better than that!! Always wondered if anyone in the aviation community approached you about doing that. Anyway, God bless your family and have a safe New Year!!

So Darrell did talk to Dale on camera about the Richmond incident. It was the *Dale Earnhardt & DW interview done February 13th 2001* DW ask Dale “what scares you, or what are you afraid of?” Dale responded with “I’ve never been scared in a race car except for when I saw Tim Richmond coming up the track looking like he was gonna kill me at porcono! And when you and I got into at Richmond, I thought Stevie was gonna kill me!” Dale worded it in such a way he took responsibility for it. Dale wasn’t the type to just come out and say it directly because he was embarrassed he did that I’ve personally got into incidents on the track in my younger days. And it’s extremely embarrassing after the incident. But in a Dale type of way he admitted it was “him that tore the cars up, not Darrell” for some reason Dale was in a very good place and he matured a lot threw the 90s where he started dropping the baggage the last 2yrs of his life.

First time I went to Pocono was in the early 90s, saw Dale Sr. win both days races! Won the Busch race on Saturday! Never will forget those 2 days there, I still have a small notepad that I'd brought with me and took notes of the entire race of where Dale was and what was going on! Dale took it from Jeremy Mayfield in the last turn on the last lap! Went to see him at Bristol a year or two later and he crashed inside the first 50 laps and went back out just for the points, rode around the rest of that day with no fenders or hood on the car! It was all I could do to set there and watch the rest of that race, knowing Dale had no chance of ever winning, yet, I thought if Dale can get back out there and ride just for the points, I've got to stay and see him finish the race too!

Man I miss DW, he'd was my first driver i rooted for in 1987 . The look of disgust on his face when he talks about k mart car. They saved him as well, and put a lot of marketing dollars behind it and him. But he was ready to go prior to his team closing, last race He won was what 1992 ?? Great stories from as great man. Keep this up grab more late 80s and 90s drivers!!

Watching the videos brings back good memories. As an Australian, My last vacation was in 1994 in NC. I was crewing a late model driver ( Chrissey Oliver) for 2 meetings at Hickory Motor Speedway and Tri County Speedway. Met Chrissey when she came to Australia and raced in the USA team in dirt speeway. I worked on my nephews sprintcar. As a big Dale Senior fan, Met Kerry and Kelley when they raced late models. Also spectator at the Coke 600. Great memories.

I’m not even a real NASCAR fan but these podcasts are excellent. Jr. really is one of the best sports interviewers in the world - any sport.

Was never a NASCAR fan, but I was always a DW fan. His interviews were the best part of some races. I learned more about racing by accident listening to him than I ever did on purpose listening to other drivers.

I think it was the 1991 Pepsi firecracker 400 when He flipped on the backstretch at Daytona. Yeah, he won a few races after that but he never really was as competitive after that race.

Hey Junior... I just want to say thank you for doing what you do. I get so much joy listening to these old stories. Having done a little short track racing back in the day every episode takes me back to similar stories and characters in my own life. These stories are all played out thousands of times over at each of the little short tracks across this county. The names and the places might be different, but the stories always seem to remind me of someone I know or raced against. I just love listening/ watching these. You do such an awesome job at taking us all along for the ride. Thanks again!

Dale and Darrell, two of the best. Going off topic. The Pettys, Henrecks, and the rest of the old timers are close to passing. I don't see a long term life for NASCAR. My opinion.
