Dale Earnhardt's first born son Kerry Earnhardt may fly under the radar to most casual race fans familiar with his brother Dale Jr. Born in 1969 to the young Dale and his first wife Latane Brown, Kerry's early life story is not much known about until this video. He actually grew up as Kerry Key, adopted by his mothers new husband Jack with zero knowledge he was adopted or that his father was actually the legendary NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt. We get to ride along with Kerry around his hometown of Enochville and Kannapolis North Carolina to see his childhood homes, schools, former workplaces, and the iconic home of Ralph and Martha Earnhardt with Dale's race shop in the back. Kerry also introduces us to his aunt Cathy and Kaye for some better insight on his early years and their memories growing up with Dale! You can find Kerry at several events a year in downtown Kannapolis including the inaugural Earnhardt Outdoors Day

This video is being published on Dale Earnhardt’s birthday on purpose. His contributions to motorsports and positive impact on the lives of so many should never be forgotten. We are super grateful Kerry was willing to share these stories with us in such transparency. I hope you reading this now gained some perspective and learned something to positively apply to your own life. There is one thing for sure Martha Earnhardt, was going to make sure that Kerry knew about Dale Sr. side of the family, going to Kerry's baseball games, and basically being in his life regardless of what the adopted father may or may not of wanted. I will also add that from my perspective Kerry comes across much more like Dale Sr than Jr does after watching this video. Because you know Kerry running from tiny the game warden is most definitely classic Earnhardt 😂 Even doing the donuts in the Chevelle's in the high school parking lot is yet another classic Earnhardt trait.

Then when Kerry found out about dale his mother and jack wouldn’t let him see dale.. and what happened as soon as Kerry could ?? Sounds like Sr. Welcomed him to the family immediately.. called him son the first time they talked and met. So you two sound like morons who have never made hard decisions in your life. And what you think is better for the family in the long run? Dale getting a 9-5 or him going after being a cup driver.. which was a reason they broke up she wanted him to get a “real” job.

Happy Birthday Dale !! I noticed this car at Talladega in 1982 that was FLYING around the track during practice driving like it was for the win,his driving technique was on fire. Turned out it was Dale Earnhardt, been a fan ever since. Kerry, Dale Jr.& Kelly just learning more on about how determined Dale was to make it . Hearing what Dale had to do to make it explains why that car way back in 1982 was driving like that during practice. Awesome stories, sacrifices & success. Thank You

@@tuffguy428 why wouldn't he be serious? Dale knew he wasn't "father material" at the time. He knew that Kerry was well taken care of with his mom and Jack Key. I am sure Dale could have pushed the issue but didn't, allowed it to happen on its own time.

It's not ok to avoid your children just because you aren't ready to be a dad. You were man enough to have a child. Be a man and take care of it. He's a POS.

This is so, so awesome! We absolutely need a part 2! I love how Kerry had a whole planned route and story to tell, even if he forgot his notecards, haha. Thanks again for doing these, seriously, it's just so awesome to hear about and SEE all of this history, especially directly from the source. It fills the void in my heart that the old days of growing up watching racing left.

I'm not yet even done watching this, but just to say this - thank you very much for this, and anything like it. The people around the sport are why it's so much more special to the fans, and as a youngun, the chance to get to know who these people are, and where they came from, and where the whole sport originated, it means the world to me. Bless you

Really appreciate Kerry and his family sharing with us. And, the resemblance between Kerry and his Dad's statue is uncanny. Can't wait for Part 2 😎

One of my favorite places to go is the Dale statue in front of Daytona Speedway. I can sit there with my thoughts and memories of watching Dale drive that car and somehow it calms my soul. Its as if he knew personally and is there talking to me. I go just past the outside of turn 4 and i can hear it, smell it and see it all over again. I couldn't imagine growing up without him heck its still hard living without him that is the impact he left on me as a fan. 3.

I can't thank you guys enough for the history you have dug up and documented. I now know so much more of the history of the Earnhardt's, Wallace's, Martin, Racing teams of the 80's and 90's with all the "Innovation". I swear you will end up on the download, Jr. has an affinity for Nascar history. I have loved the trips to Robert G's garage, especially after the Tony Jr, interview on the download, I could picture Robert on that back porch BBQing Steaks! You have brought the history of the stories actual substance by visiting the locations and reaching out to some of the greatest in history to walk you through those locations. Nascar and it's fans need to know how you guys are preserving these experiences with these great VLog's. No one is doing it like you are! I came for the builds, fell in love with your down to earth personality's, the weekend live Q&A's where you have talked to my whole family, You guys have drawn race cars for our son on note cards and even gave him a hat when he lost it at school! People out there reading these comments, Please like and subscribe if you haven't already, go to Stapeltonautoworks.com buy a hat, t-shirt, heck even stickers! Help support Mitchel and Logan! Many times wiping tears hearing Kerry's story. I too was adopted at a young age, and while I have never tried to find my birth parents, I am now considering doing so. This was more than about racing, and I really enjoyed it. I hope you guys do more with Kerry and also share some of his past racing stories as well. As usual, keep up the great work.
