I really appreciate the insights and perspectives discussed on your show. In this conversation, I think something that Dale was closer to than Mike is that any race consists of a time when one driver competes against one other driver to the exclusion of other cars. It becomes very personal and limited to only one other competitor. Call it emotion, call it skill, call it being smart, call it competitive spirit or whatever, but a driver's priorities can be influenced by becoming so focussed on competing with one other driver that they get real good at concealing the way they win. Hamlin is a veteran and I like that.

If I'm understanding him correctly, Mike was saying that while contact took place, it wasn't necessarily retaliation from Denny, but hard racing. He was saying if this was any other scenario without drivers having beef, it'd just be a hard racing deal. Jr. saw it as retaliation pure and simple, just not overly blatant, but enough to send a message. Me personally, I think either way, Denny got retaliation whether it was intended or not, simply because you have to wonder or even think about it, and the seed of doubt is there. To Mike's point, unless Denny flat out admitted it, you can make the claim one way or the other. To Jr's point, he didn't cut him any slack which was uncharacteristic of how he raced everyone else that day.

@randyphillips559 Год назад
I call BULL, if the driver is beside you on the outside he is not gonna lift. Believe it or not passes are made on the outside as well a the inside. If you watched races you would know if the driver on the inside can't pass without drifting into a car fully outside him, he should lift to avoid exactly what Denny did.

@@randyphillips559 you are talking about driver code, driver courtesy That exists between most drivers but not all When a driver WITHHOLDS courtesy , THAT is not de facto retaliation - that is part of racing too - gaining respect so you can get the courtesy And if you don't earn it - that is STILL racing
@bcrossphotos

I agree with Mike, not intentional, just hard racing. As far as a driver code goes it becomes less important when another driver does not show you respect and in this case that may have played a role, but I don’t think it was as intentional as much as just hard racing.

@@randyphillips559 If I watched races, now that's funny... I've been watching nascar since the days when it was only on tv a couple times a year, usually on Wide World of Sports... I've been to multiple tracks to attend races, had renewable tickets to Dover for over 20 yrs. I've been to the Richard Petty Driving Experience THREE times, did Daytona and Charlotte back to back days... My 6 years in an online race pool, picking winners and top ten finishers, I have 3 championships, 2 second places and 1 third place... I think I know a little about racing.... If you knew as much as you think, you'd realize what you are describing is the norm, but this wasn't a normal situation. There were less than 20 laps to go, and the other person was Ross, who had wrecked Denny a few times this season already. Ross didn't deserve Denny's courtesy so Denny repaid the favor and treated Ross the same way Ross had been treating him... payback time!

Mike low key gets on my nerves. The comments he makes, like he knows whats going on, yet he has never drove a racecar nor understands what actually goes through our minds.

Generally speaking, I like Mike Davis and enjoy his input on the show. With that said, this is *not* a good look for him.

Lol! We still did not find out who peed farther, on the racetrack or in the podcast booth. It is ok fellas, the only thing that mattered is what the NASCAR boys think. Cheers from Texas!

What the hell is Mike smoking ? This argument is not about this wreck ! Mike's days are numbered ?

Easy argument in any other type of racing. Don't encroach on someone else's racing line when side by side.

If you watch other forms of motorsports you’ll see drivers run the other out of room on corner exit giving the driver on the outside the option of A) contact B) going off track/into the wall C) lifting Dennis Hamlin gave Chastain those options and Chastain didn’t lift so that way it’s just a racing incident and Dennis is off without a worry. It was clearly with malicious intent that there was no room left but it’s hard to say Hamlin wrecked Chastain on purpose

Again if you watched Nascar you would see drivers on the inside lifting to avoid hitting car on outside all the time especially on occasions when outside lane is faster.

A perfect example would have been JR's dad. Dale Sr wrecked DW at the end of the race at Richmond and were running for the win. Dale said all he wanted to do was take out DW that day and even at the end with a chance to win he took both themselves out.
