The point is to bring out the best qualities of the piece. Michelangeli played it like an etude. Lazar's version seems to be based on his. However, she also has some interesting subtleties and contrasts that his was lacking that make this a worthy interpretation. Definitely, not my first choice, though. And I'm not sure why anyone would say that either of them 'understand how this one should be played' when it doesn't even sound Baroque. Listen to a hapsichordist play it sometime. Perahia and Danshepour are the two best that I have heard. Andreev gets the best tone out of everyone, but he goes way overboard with Romanticizing it.
Nicely played but I prefer a slower tempo on this one. The velocity (which in this case is not particularly exagerated in comparison to other performences) takes away many beautiful passages from this marvelous Sonata.
