Un immense panneau lumineux à Times Square annonçait son spectacle avec le message : « Tonight Carnegie Hall Dalida ». Les billets, surtout les plus chers, se vendaient au marché noir pour 140 dollars.
Dalida changeait de tenue plusieurs fois durant le spectacle, portant successivement des robes blanches perlées, noires, puis rouges fendues. La performance a été saluée par une standing ovation et un public diversifié.
Les critiques étaient toutes positives on pouvait lire : "Le triomphe de Dalida, c'est le rêve de l'ONU", tandis que le New York Times l'a qualifiée de "bête de scène à la dimension internationale" et le Herald Tribune de "la plus époustouflante des artistes françaises venues à New York".
