In light of ROW, it's interesting how this turned out to be wrong in the specifics, but very reasonable in general implications thanks to all the shenanigans going on with the challenge against Odium. Just incredibly interested to see how this all plays out over the various series.

Really interesting theory, and hold up thematically so far. Would be insanely interesting to read about the two champions of Sanderson's biggest series in conflict with each other, I guess it's mostly a question as to whether Odium is the main antagonist of all of the cosmere or if all of his build up is just for his take down the Stormlight Archives? But great content love seeing every video you put out 👍
I don't think the Cosmere is going necessarily going to have one big bad guy. I think there's going to be conflicts between worlds and characters that arise naturally from the goals of said characters. Yes, Odium is an antagonist in Stormlight, but I'm pretty confident that we'll see a combination of Odium/Honor into the Shard of War soon. I think War/Roshar vs. Harmony/Scadrial is a very natural path for the Cosmere to take. War and conquest against peace and Harmony. It would make for a very compelling struggle on both sides.
really cool theory, but I feel like the moment when Dalinar refused Odium was the last opportunity for him to turn bad. I definitely don't see Odium as the big bad in the cosmere though.
So I’ve been thinking about this for the last couple of days. Here’s my tin hat theory... The entire Cosmere is actually about one mans story to become God. That man is Hoid. Here’s why: he’s integral at every true decision point to help the main characters make their own decision. He shows the power of a story and the power of a storyteller. Hoid is playing the Looooooong game to restore the entire power of Adonalsium. He is helping out everyone in the universe directly. He is also collecting different investitures from all over the place so his cognitive web will just be all over the place. He is helping these characters become little “g” gods so they can help him become capital “G” God.
Don't think what you are saying is true. Hoid could become a god - and he choose not to to be free. And freedom is one of most important parts of his character. He is treating him being where he is needed as a some kind of curse. So why he would give up that to become bound to shards? Also he was a downward at one point and he give that up.
Watching this a year and a half later post "Rhythm of War". I like the idea of Dalinar becoming CONQUEST. However, wouldn't it make more sense for Conquest to = Odium + Cultivation? Cultivation is all about longterm strategic planning. That combined with Odium would result in pure conquest. Perhaps Dalinar would justify it somehow, thinking that if someone has to hold the shard of Odium it might as well be someone with a desire to cultivate life, not just destroy life ... or something like that.

I'm pretty sure Dalinar is gonna lose the champions battle, then become Conquest. Then start the galactic war that Odium wants to make the second half of SL interesting and then let the cosmere go into a space odessy. There's a death rattle from way of Kings that points to why Dalinar will fail.
Was this released before RoW? Alternative Tin Foil theory. Dalinar gets into the duel with Odium’s champion and using honors perpendicularity to reforge Honors shard and unifies it with the Odium shard while Teravangian is still in possession of it. Dalinar somehow looses the duel on a technicality and so has to act as “Conquest’s” representative in the Cosmere in books 6-10.
The strongest argument in favor to your theory was unmentioned: the fact that, if nothing significant happens from now on to Dalinar, he'll become an empty character, full of laws binding him, full of Intent. It's obvious from a literary point view Dalinar must confront harder things in the way.
Personally I think combining Odium with honor makes unity. You can use oaths Covenants and treaties to bind people together But unless Develop friendship, love or comrodery (Passion) They will never be truly United .
This is an interesting theory, but how do Honour and Odium combine to become Conquest? Honour is truth, and Odium is passion, but I think you’d need Cultivation to provide the desire for “conquest”; the gathering of people/things/places. The question is whether the Intent is positive (good?) or negative (bad?). If Conquest is the positive intent of such a being, then perhaps Invasion would be the negative.
I don't think any intent is necessarily negative. In my opinion, Dalinar would have to try to form Unity first, as what is Conquest but a more passionate form of unity?

I THINK there are WoB’s that said that if Sazed was a douche when he took up the shards, then he could have become Discord rather than Harmony, but that may have been a theory I came upon at some point. You’re the expert, Gon; you tell me. IMO, however, the attitude or Intent of the shardbearer can affect the aspect of the shard’s nature. Ati was supposedly a really decent guy before taking up his shard, so perhaps he became Ruin instead of Destruction. Maybe Leras was a little more opportunistic of a person, which is why he was the first to break the agreement between him and Ati. Obviously this is all speculation, but we know that Intent and Connection are important (perhaps the most important) forces in the Cosmere and that there is almost always a duality to any power or ability. They can be used for good or evil, and the term used to describe the force can change based on how it is used. Shards are neither good nor bad, but Intent can certainly make them lean to one side or the other. My opinion; not looking to argue since that’s generally considered to be negative, but to debate since that’s generally considered to be positive.
Dalinar is not a Shard... He might have the potential to become Unity, but at the current time he is still a mortal. My thoughts are that once he levels up enough as a Bondsmith, he will unlock the potential to Connect the splinters of Honor and reform the power into a Shard that he interprets as Unity.
Any other audible listeners here cringing at these pronunciations? Lol, i don't mean to be rude, it's just jarring hearing the names pronounced so differently than they have been for hundreds of hours of listening.
Ha, after listening to ROW in audiobook format, it's hard looking back at old episodes I made. I've definitely gotten more accurate with pronunciation as more episodes are released
