I think the main thing when it comes to using AI for comics is the ability to repeat the same characters (and sometimes the same backgrounds) in different scenes over & over again throughout the comic. We need to be able to pose the characters individually, pose them together with other characters, as well as show both the characters and backgrounds from different angles. We also need to be able to join characters & backgrounds together in order to create a scene. It doesn’t seem like AI is very useful for creating these things at this stage, but hopefully someday it will be.
Midjourney recently talked about a feature they plan to implement that they are calling "anchors" or something, in order to help with what you accurately described.
I found out about MidJourney last week and I was immediately hooked! I paid for a year membership after using it for just a few hours. It is probably my most satisfying impulse buy EVER! lol
Hey Diva! Good to hear from you. I’d just gotten back from LA so it was winter sun burn, Hollywood Star burn or poor color grading in premiere skills burn… :)
From what I've seen Dall-E 2 is not great at very stylized output, it's perhaps better at understanding prompts for photorealistic output. I've seen some amazing stuff about taking a character generated in Midjourney and converting it to a Stable Diffusion model for re-use. So far I haven't found a magic bullet for combining multiple known characters in an action scene. There's too much bleed between characters. I'd love to be proven wrong! It's also a shame that in MJ it's hard to specify what features of a reference image you're interested in, e.g. is it the characters, the background, the style? I've had to resort to photobashing a mockup to get decent results in some cases.
How censored is the one compared to the other? Kills me how each of these tools are lacking major features that makes them all pretty difficult to go with any one of them as a professional artist. Currently Midjourney has best been able to render the sort of things I need for my work, but the dam censorship is killing me. I hate feeling like Im walking in a mine field constantly worried about being banned. I'm paying them 50 a month, I shouldn't have to be going through that.
