The City of Dallas is now promising it will notify neighbors before placing an emergency warning siren near their homes -- a change in policy following a family’s complaints this week.
Personally, having experienced tornadoes in the middle of the night, I wouldn’t mind having a siren right next to my house to wake me up and give warning. The two scariest tornadoes I’ve been through happened around 11:30PM and 2:30AM
Its actually more of a health concern being that close. Testing of those things happens weekly. It will cause hearing loss. Especially for a child. Their concerns are valid.
@@ILoveOldTWC this!! Sirens arent guarenteed to pull you out of sleep either so thats kinda a dumb mindset considering. You just should stay up if experts are warning shit.
East Coast Alerting if you like these kind of sirens my hometown is getting bigger & since I moved here in 1984 & I'm still here these are the only kind of sirens we have I have 2 closed to my building & there's another not far away & where that 1 is I used to live 1 block away from it & I can easily see it from my bedroom window & if I wanted to I could walk to where it is & stand right under it or walk right past it too & that thing was loud & it wakes you up too & I have 2 cats & they run & hide when it goes off even the 1's by me now so if you wanna film them come here when it warms up & I'll show you where they are so you can film them
they should consider how far it needs to be from occupied structures to not cause hearing damage to the residents. decibel testing before installation close to residential structures should be done so that max db at a window by a residence doesn't exceed the level at which a person might need hearing protection. when that thing goes off, they shouldnt need earplugs to leave the house!
Donna XX. I agree and use Whalen WPS 4004 sirens like in farmers branch Texas and none of them are close to homes and they are louder than Federal signal 2001. They recently made it higher pitch to switch it up a little due to reflashing the tone generator boards and it’s one of the best sounding electronic sirens I ever heard.
@@budgie508 Electronic sirens crap out worse than mechanical sirens, at least mechanical sirens at least still make sound when the end up crapping out a little bit unlike Whelens they either glitch or not make sound at all. Some mechanical sirens still in service also don't need batteries to power themselves. Whelens and mechanical sirens or at least certain ones are as loud as the other. I would know, I've heard plenty.
When my father was a kid, he had a tornado siren right next to his house. Now this thing was a big-ass CITY tornado siren, and was used for the entire tiny town. And better yet, it was tested every day at 12 pm. Yep, you saw that right. Every. Fucking. Day. It was so loud and strong, it rattled the entire house. This family should consider themselves lucky!
And she is "embarrassed"? LOL! You live in the HEART of Tornado Alley with EF5 tornadoes, and you're "embarassed" by a tornado siren? She would have also been the FIRST person to complain, "I didn't hear the sirens!" Can't win with a Karen! LMAO!

Imagine if it was a Autistic daughter who is afraid of loud noises would that change your opinion not trying to be me just wandering sorry about my spelling and grammar.
@@leftythebear6646 I record tornado sirens 2001-SNRB's and 130s are not that loud for a tornado siren if you are in your house it would not be too loud
Ive been filming trains for like 3 years, thats about as loud as it gets and plus i live down the road from a 2001, it did a test a couple weeks ago in alert and that wasnt loud at all
@@swiftzerz928 the sirens don't go off every day and are probably tested once a month. I would rather be safe knowing that if a tornado was headed toward my house, I'd know about it. As far as it being an eyesore, who cares - only white, privileged people would care about something like this.
You thought hearing loss was problematic? Window replacements might be in your future because of your windows exploding from being unable to hold back the massive amount of sound pressure spewing out of that siren in all directions
Nobody has ever complained over where a tornado siren was placed in my county. The reason it was put there is so they could hear it incase they are in an actual tornado warning and cant hear the siren if their outside. It may vibrate that bedroom ceiling when it rotates but if it gets too loud like if they have sensitive ears they could always buy headphones and they would be prepared when ever it was activated for a test or a severe storm. Too late for all that as they took the siren for granted.
I'm late to this one so don't know the outcome but I'm gonna give my opinion anyway.... I say move it as far away from her house as possible so she's the last to know when disaster strikes. Shame the neighbours will have to suffer too, but tbh they may be better off sucked in to a twister than living next door to someone like that.... 🔊
How can you complain about this, if it ever has to go off anyway, you probably wont be thinking about how noisy it is, youll probly be trying to take shelter.
in Ann Arbor, MI, Washtenaw County, there is a siren across the street from residential areas at Paige and Jewitt Aves, I live right by there; thank god I have breathing room
In the UK, we don't have any warning sirens apart from flood sirens and near industry and navy complexs. So whole population demands on their mobile phone: that if it works and is kept update. Apart from television and radio, that give out warnings. It would nice have a warning sirens system as back up.
It embarrasses me that people can't respect sirens anymore, I mean if it weren't for these amazing pieces of machinery, we wouldn't be warned of impending attacks or weather dangers. Sure we got mobile devices to warn us but not alot of people have iPhones or androids, so alot of people rely on these sirens
we have a siren that’s just across the street behind our water tower and if you wanna know what siren it is it is a Federal Signal 2001 but before that it was a Thunderbeam
I would do anything to live near a Tornado Siren, but it would be even better if it was a Thunderbolt! Still, I would keep my weather radio just to be safe.
To be honest I would be pretty grateful to have that i’m interested in all of that and I would not feel embarrassed but maybe after a while I’ll change my mind if that was in right next to my house
I'd personally prefer that the siren be a Federal Thunderbolt 1000t or 1003....I'd be damned proud to have one of those dual toned monsters next to my house 😊....I wouldn't be embarrassed to have this 2001, though.
It's always 50/50 by people, isn't it? My complaint would be about how potentially damaging to someone's hearing that would be since it is so close. And why did the city have to only install 1 siren, which is literally in someone's back yard, instead of 2 that might be spaced to the edges of the community. Either way, it's funny to listen to someone be more upset about it being "an eye sore and it's embarrassing to have it right there." That is a sense of entitlement that the beauty of your house is much more important than the safety of an entire tax paying neighborhood. The flips side of this is when this family wouldn't have been able to hear anything because they would be too far away from a siren..... then it would also be the city's fault if something tragic happened to this family as a result.
Hearing loss from a 2001-130 sounds idiotic. Even the SRN wouldnt do that as itd 127DB@100FT It's an alert given by Federal Signal (FS) that it could cause permanent HEARING damage, but they're not even that loud -- they carry about 1.850 miles away with 130DB@100FT. From a far, they sound loud. Upclose, no.
I would pay to have a 2001 in my front yard. Idc how loud it is and its a true FACT that and you chose to put her bedroom there next to the siren. YOU CHOSE TO PUT HER BEDROOM THERE. even if she chose herself, its still a dumb thing to complain about had you let her choose or chose for her. Even if it was there before, YOU CHOSE TO MOVE INTO THAT HOUSE. NOBODY CHOOSES WHERE YOU LIVE. so like, if you’re gonna complain about the noise, and where you put your daughter’s bedroom, the closest one to the siren, well, its mostly your fault. nobody chose the bedroom unless your daughter chose it herself, but if you knew, which you should have already known the first DAY you moved in that the siren was towering over your driveway because of how tall it is and yet you are “oblivious” to it acting like its a ghost and then when it goes off you wanna complain. i dont care how loud it is cause i actually heard a 2001 in alert mode a couple weeks ago myself, and ive heard tons of train horns and yeah they’re loud and if thats what bothers you thats ok, i hear loud noises all the time but once again she LITERALLY chose to put her daughter’s bedroom in there, and ive also seen people complaining about train horns blaring in quiet zones, the same thing in this scenario. the person telling the news reporter about how loud the train is mentioned her daughter’s bedroom, and what do you know? its the closest to the tracks. and once again as you can see by my pfp, i hear train horns all the time and they’re loud of course but if you get used to it they’re not loud to you at all even without noise canceling headphones, and if im making this long “essay” for nothing, so what? This person clearly wants to complain and try to make them do something. Oh well just wait until an EF-5 hits your home and you dont have any siren near you. then youll be sorry you ever contacted the news. and dont be an idiot like this person.
Them saying they were giving no information, but they weren’t home, they said they pulled up and saw it there, so the workers probably knocked on there door but they weren’t home
:47 That is BS and here is why. They install a siren right next to your house. Good luck at trying to sell your home. It just lost a fourth of its value. Maybe a third. I would sue, recover my money, then leave. Unless of course the city/county relented and moved the siren. Booo
90-130 decibels is more than enough to totally burst the eardrums and cause a person to completely lose their hearing especially if the person happens to be outside when the Siren goes off
B R U H ! 130dB is definitely not enough to burst someone’s eardrums. It is 150dB that can burst your eardrums. I heard the same model of siren and didn’t even need any hearing protection of any kind. The only thing 130dB can do, is damage hearing ONLY if you are exposed to the sound like for hours. The siren only goes off for 3 minutes at maximum
You guys are going way too far calling her a "Karen", imagine spending millions on property and the next thing you know the government out of nowhere devalues your property by thousands in an hour. The whole "Oh I would love to live next to a tornado siren" No you wont! And even if you did, good for you. but not everyone and the fact that you just judge her over it is ridiculous. Dallas has even had a hacker hack the tornado sirens.
Who cares. She's calling it "embarrassing" which means she doesn't care about being safe. If they didn't install it where they did since they have maps of where it would be best, that's where they had to put it. And her saying they should move it a street over that's still loud and disturbing, she shouldn't be complaining. Also if there's a siren right there, she's complaining about it being embarrassing and that shows that she cares for no one but herself.
