That's a beautiful area... Did you know that the original road and Mica Township got flooded out... You can drive the old road to the waters edge on either side...
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 2 месяца назад
I did learn that. There's definitely places where you can see parts of the road under the water. Pretty crazy place, it's pretty amazing the scale of the whole project up there.

My Daughter can here me from the other room. She hears me laughing and commenting and comes into the room "who is this guy?" Oh that's Sarge Inc. We watch a few of your videos and really enjoy your attitude and where you adventure. She says "I'd go on an adventure with Sarge." This morning I put on more of your videos and again she can hear me enjoying your videos... and after watching a few more vids she says " I'd date him, he knows how to have fun." We might have to meet up this Summer and bring our Kayaks and celebration snacks...lol

This is really good, man...! Try a roomy light long sleeve chambray shirt and a wide brimmed straw hat.... Trust me
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 5 месяцев назад
Is this for style or to for sun protection? I definitely might pick up a different hat for this summer. The Tilley hat is great, but it's also pretty warm when it gets proper hot out. I have a fair amount of canoeing planned this summer, so it might be worth investing in.
@AstroVanTribe

@@SARGEinc It's practical for sun protection and staying cool - 100% breathable cotton - When you sweat any air that hits you makes it seem like air conditioning and it keeps the sun off your skin - A super wide brimmed straw hat breathes much better than what you were wearing . You could soak the hat you have in water - You can soak the cotton shirt in water and ring it out then wear it which also cools you off... Old guys know stuff
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 5 месяцев назад
@AstroVanTribe You're in Cali, you've almost certainly been in the heat more than me, lol. I definitely do the soak the hat in water methods. When it's hot I'm usually in a constant cycle of hat, wet hat, hat, no hat, hat, wet hat, hat, no hat, hat, until I'm off the water. Sometimes, while being alone, you have nothing to think about than the 2 degrees too warm that your head is😂

What an epic journey ,looking forward to next week's vid...perfect weather..nice n calm,good for the mind n soul..a celebration..indeed I like those.. a lot.. how is your back and shoulders holding up?..I'm currently looking for a 16 ft canoe..a CheaP one..lol Gotta get out there.. Great adventure and an incredible video.
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 5 месяцев назад
Thabk you! My back and shoulders held up pretty good. Usually what bothers me on long canoe trips is my traps(I think that's what they are called). The muscles at the top of my back/bottom of neck. Sometimes those start to burn, and then I usually get surnburn in the same area, and then it's a double whammy. lol. That and sometimes my elbows hurt, but that's usually only when when I go too far after not canoeing for a while. I definitely recommend getting a canoe even if it's a cheap one. It opens up so many more places to explore!
@SadCowDisease1
@SadCowDisease1 5 месяцев назад
Definitely need a big hat, and I would look into some type of mask. Worst sun burn I've had is from canoeing.
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 5 месяцев назад
I've definitely taken a few good sun burns while canoeing, usually on my pasty white back. I think you get hit with the sun twice, once from the sun, and once from the sun reflecting off the water. Recepie for disaster😂

on those dam lakes, you have to be careful, when camping near shore. and, where you leave your boat. the water levels can rise alot, unexpectedly. my first trip to kinbasket, my truck and trailer were on the shore. i beached the boat, and tied it to the trailer. i had set up my tent on the flatdeck trailer, as this shore was rocky. i woke in the night, to piss, and stepped out into water. so lucky i had tied the boat to the trailer, or it could have been anywhere. after that, i made sure i always camped on higher grounds, and, made sure the boat would be fine.
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 5 месяцев назад
That was definitely on my mind. A bit of a spoiler alert, but the campsite that I stay at next was a very small and low beach. I definitely had concerns I was going to wake up swimming😂. In the couple days before I started this trip, I stayed at Martha Creek Provincial Park. I spent some time talking to the park ranger. He had spent a lot of time on Kinbasket and told me similar stories. He said that lake can swing wildly in terms of level. I think Revelstoke is a little more constant. That guy really freaked me out though. Everyone I talked to at that campsite thought it was a bad idea😂
@zzz7zzz9
@zzz7zzz9 5 месяцев назад
@@SARGEinc yes, kinbasket is wild. Revelstoke is much more consistent. But that one experience on kinbasket had me taking precautions on revelstoke too. I hate campgrounds, so i try to find more remote spots. On one trip, i was parked well up from the water, but my zodiac, i emptied it, packed everything to higher ground, pulled the motor off and then hauled the boat up more on shore. I think i didn't have enough rope to reach, to tie it off to shore. And on one of my kinbasket trips, i set up my camp and tent well up from the water, and had my boat tied off with lots of rope. All night long, i could hear noises down the shoreline, which had me continually looking outside. Kept thinking a grizz could be walking the shore. Took quite awhile to realize it was rocks and ground tumbling, from the drastic water levels always changing, flooding the shoreline, then exposing it. And then the massive stumps that are floating throughout the lake, just under the water's surface. Oh ya, i hit one one time.

@zzz7zzz9 That's crazy. Kinbasket actually sounds scary to me. I hear you about the stumps just below the surface. I almost went over in my canoe in the winter, hitting one full pace in Alouette Lake(I think). It was just under the surface and I rode right up onto it, I thought I was rolling for sure. Sometimes I feel like those old loggers cut them to the perfect height just to fuck with us future boaters😂

Beauty of a trip! How did you get from starting point to starting point? We are considering a taxi from revelstoke for our trip. As hitching might take a while, even with a decent sign. Perhaps I'll just ride my bike for 7hrs to mica camp. Thanks for the insight.
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 3 месяца назад
I parked my van at the boat launch for the week, and I got a ride up to Mica with my sister. I planned a trip with her around this trip just to get a ride lol. I don't know how successful hitch hiking would be, but there is definitely people using the highway, so you might get lucky. That bike ride would be tough, but depending on the rider it could be doable. There was definitely hills, but no mountains to go over. Before I talked my sister into coming, I was debating posting an ad on Facebook Marketplace looking for someone to give me and my canoe a ride to the top. I figured there's probably plenty of people in Revelstoke that would do it for some cash, lots of vanlifers and stuff. It's just a matter of finding someone.

@@SARGEinc Right on, we were thinking the same about parking at the furthest south launch. You are right it does look like a gnarly bike ride on a mountain bike lol. Facebook marketplace is a good idea, instead of a cab. Thanks for the valuable info. Are you planning on Paddling Upper/Lower Arrow or Kinbasket Lake ?
@SARGEinc
@SARGEinc 3 месяца назад
@woytekwindsock8401 I don't plan on doing it this year, but I do think that canoeing the arrow lakes is in my future. I actually visited the source of the Columbia River on this same road trip, and I also canoed another section of the Columbia between Invermere and Radium. Now that I have seen that area, I like the thought of going from the source(or at least Columbia Lake) to Golden or even into Kinbasket Lake. I definitely caught Columbia River fever this summer, so one day, I might try to do the whole thing!
