Hello guys, so I decided to update this video with a bit more info and games. Now we cant imagine NFS without some sort of damage, but it wasnt like that before. I think game with best damage system is Shift 2. Hope one day we will see something like that again. Hope you like it.

The damage model in Need For Speed Undercover is really elaborate when you consider the context of the game: illegal street racing, with police chaces and modifications to the cars like new engines and stuff. These things on their own are already quite expensive to license and convince car manufacturers to allow you to do (which is the reason why the Underground series, Most Wanted 2005 and Carbon didn't have any damage model whatsoever), so seeing actual deformation of body parts and them flying off even on cars like Bugatti is quite impressive. They must've sunken a lot of money into this, shame the game didn't really live up to it

It was more realistic back then with *"NFS:High Stakes"* and *"NFS:Hot Pursuit"* around year 2000s. Not only they had visual and mechanical damage(including spikestripped tires), they also had light switches and ability to play our own music CD as car's entertainment system. Pretty sweet and rad...!

Well, NFS Pro Street/Undercover had great damage too. NFS The Run also pretty decent but bit nerfed. It is ironic how these games has better car damage than the modern racing games. Also NFS High Stakes for a 1999 game still has more impressive damage than the most overrated NFS from 2003-2006.

@@thestanlibtims Still strange how the cops have much better damage models in NFS MW/Carbon but not the regular cars which I don't get and this doesn't make sense. This is like Black Box wanted to say the cop cars are made from super cheap fragile plastic that shatters from the smallest impact while the regular cars are made from strong steel and windows that only crack and not shatter. Still like in NFS The Run I was wondering why in most cars every side windows shatter (on some really easily like the AE86 and the 20V Quattro) but the driver's side window is strong as the front window and only on some cars all side windows shatter (including on the super expensive Pagani Huayra.) But still the damage model seems bit nerfed from NFS PS/UC. But hey these games have far better damage than the modern racing games.

Nfs underground and underground 2 didnt really have damage, just temporary shattered windows during the crash scene. Underground 2 beta/demo did have the trunk open as part of the damage model but was cut in the final game.

The only visual damage in NFS UG1 was actually the falling side mirrors while NFS UG2 only shattered windows. It is ironic how even NFS High Stakes has better damage model than these NFS. But the cop cars have better damage models that the regular cars which doesn't make any sense.

@@HeroManNick132 like a previous comment in this video mentioned, the first two tiers of cop cars are prob a ford vic look alikes and have no irl license. iirc the cop corvettes base body does not deform at all in MW and carbon. Only windows,doors and trunk. Even the paint, window damage for the player cars in nfs U, MW and carbon are the only thing allowed ig due to irl license

in the beta version you will see smoke out from engine or light part been cracked when wrecked during drag races but sadly actually been cutted. But you didn't know license plate dropped when rear damage in final ver.

Pro Street was the only game where both driving and damage was realistic and on point. On rest of the NFS games there is no such thing as damage, you do an insane crash at 300 kmh and car structure is still same. I was super excited to play Pro Street when it first came out and was super sad when they shut down multiplayer servers.

Because I have played both games, Shift 1 has better damage model. Cars get damaged and deformed more easily and brutally. The only things Shift 2 has better are the tires comeoff and engine temperature will potentially break the engine.

NFS 2 / SE had some nice crashes. Maybe not damage models, but crashes were superb when cars would go off edges in some parts of the map.

Heat could have been cool if it had actual crash mechanics like the other games because you don’t get tossed around as much like in hot pursuit, but instead it’s just a transition of a glowing box that says wrecked

fun fact: on the 3do version of the need for speed, you have a limited number of lives, and if you crash your car too hard you loose one also the ps2 version of hot pursuit 2 has detailed damage model

Bro in shift 2 if you flip your car the wheels would literally come off .Even when you are racing with the bosses if you damage their car too much than they can't race anymore!!!
