Damaging my Macgregor 26D Sailboat in a small crash with a large seawall, sailing, and dogs.

In this episode, I rent a slip so I can work on the trailer. Before we can get to the slip, I crash my boat head-on into a seawall. I'm thinking I sucked up some junk from the old gas can that I've been using, which blocked the fuel filter. Well, that meant I could go at full-speed or the motor would die. I didn't realize that having the slightest bit of throttle would stop me from moving the transmission selector switch between GO FAST and GO BACKWARDS FAST.
We also nearly hit some pilings because the wind was shifting around like (insert something colorful here)...
Eventually, we called it quits and limped back to the same marina we left from. We pulled in and coasted the rest of the way as our motor made one last burbling cough before it died, leaving us thankful to have made it back at all.
So, in the next episode, I'm sure I'll be working on the carbs again, cleaning some fuel filters, and doing some much dreaded fiberglass work.
Thanks everyone for watching and I really appreciate your feedback. Drop a comment if you think of anything you want to see and that million bucks if you're feeling squirrely.
Sounds come from bensound.com and the music came from RU-vid Studio! If you're interested in any of the gear we have, let me know and I'll drop a link in the description.

My 26S has an anchor line that comes out of the motor well (I don't if they all have this) that I use to anchor or tie off when I back into a shore for beaching. That rear anchor I also would use in an "oh crap" moment as an emergency brake. If you don't have one it would be a good add. It's nice that it's right where you pilot the boat too, no having to run up to the bow to drop an anchor as it is right where you are piloting the boat. A little scrape is no big deal, that's a lot better than damaging someone else's $$$ yacht and all the drama that would bring. I have a 48LB thrust trolling motor that I use for "electric only" lakes, it's another safety to have onboard in case of the gas motor spazing out. The 48LB thrust electric trolling motor moves the 26S at 3 knots without heavy wind or tide, good enough to get you to & from the ramp or dock. I've motor sailed with it too on and off all day.

Thanks for the information. I've been thinking of a trolling motor, and after watching Uma for so long I started wondering how I could do electric full time. A trolling motor would be perfect in our area. I generally only use the motor for 5 or 10 minutes to get us in and out of docking, unless it's calm or too rough to make any headway. Also, I think I'll do just that and put an anchor in the back. Mine may have come with something, but when I bought the boat, the guy had a bedside table in the lazarette (no joke), a motorcycle battery beneath, and the gas tank atop the table. Man I wish I would have done before and afters. Again, thanks! I'm going to look for trolling motors now, right after I clean my carb and gas tank!

probably would have sunk it if adults were watching! carb cleaner spray, clean fuel and check fuel line connections and vent. Paint will increase maintenance will chip, scratch and be more to worry about IMHO

Jake. I am not giving you a million dollars. Am I a bad person for chuckling at your frustration? Did you yell the F bomb when you crashed near those kids? LOL. All kidding aside, I really love you guys, and it's fun for me to see you all on the boat. I think canary yellow would be a good color choice. ❤

Oh I used each of the following, in front of a park full of kids... F, s, c, w, the other c, p, and I think an E word, too. And I agree, I think we're going for a super yellow hull, banana or canary. Plus some red lines. Come on down whenever man, you're always welcome!

All part of family fun. Raising the main is easier when heading into the wind. Motor problems May be part of your future for a long time. Learn and carry on.

I kept trying to tell my 9-year old to steer to port, but he didn't listen to anything I had to say! Tough little kid, but can't figure out what to do when I tell him to 'get our nose into the wind go*****'!

@@grantmorse9262 to be honest, with the amount of changes in the wind direction I was a bit afraid of having the boom clobber someone. It was a beautiful day, but the wind couldn't make up its mind.
